Lexus, Acura and Genesis are clearly not “dying” in the USA. Not sure where you’re getting that from. Lexus is ahead of everyone in YTD sales except BMW.

The TX has had a strong start too and the GX will only add to that. Lexus never really took hold in the high-end of the luxury market but they know what works for them from a volume standpoint in the lower/middle areas of the market. The vehicles that are reskinned Toyotas are their best sellers.

Who would have thought, a CLE 63 S E Performance (4 cylinder) is coming
Thanks for sharing.

Why!? Why top level AMG are 4cyl!? Did AMG don't like sound and emotions?

Now I'm REALLY scared of the E63! Will not be a V8 for sure, but please be at a Inline 6 Hybrid!

My pleasure.

If I only knew.

For some reason, I don't think the 4 cylinder E Performance will be offered in the E. My guess is, the E will get a I6 E53. My wish is the enigine from the S class S 63 gets implanted.

I have a feeling behind the scenes they are seriously thinking about how to get out of this mess. I don’t think there will be a CLE or E 63 now. I would guess the E53 will get the GLE53’s hybrid setup. I just can’t see a 4 cylinder E63. It’s just too much to stomach.

After Tobias Moers left AMG, its just gone down hill lately. The use of a 4-cylinder with a hybrid electric motor in a C63 or any other 63 model, is a mockery of that badge.

These strategic decisions would have been made before his departure.

It’s one of Mercedes’ worst decisions that I can remember. The should have just come up with a new badge since the insist on doing this.

M
Yeah. Top Gear interviewed the AMG boss, but failed to ask any really incisive questions.

Why change what a legendary badge in the AMG 63 means, when you can just come up with a new badge to represent the E-performance line. Is it because they feared nobody would buy something that isn't a 63? Well they've found out the hard way, that nobody will buy it anyway, because its not a desirable product, and they're also ruining the legacy of what the 63 badge actually means for those who care.

I am sure they are. On the other hand, the costs of development are made, so what can they do? Selling as much of this precious little sewing machine as possible and by offering no decent AMG alternative they probably thought they could get away with it. But by offering an CLE 53 I6, who in his right mind would still buy a 4 pot, even if it’s drive is apparently very, very good, reading the tests on the C63 S E Performance.
Your idea of a new badge for the F1 related phev E Performance line sounds like a good alternative to me.

I am with @Mr. Mercedes on this one, Rolf. Remember, it’s only 3 years ago he left. But who knows, the decision to use a 4 cylinder only for almost all AMG iterations and not an optional brand new 6 or even an 8 cylinder as well, could have triggered him to leave. They never should have used the 63 badge indeed.

I remember there were rumors and even mention of using a 73 badge for these AMG Hybrid models, this would have been a good alternative but then who would want to buy a 73 (as in 7.3 liter in previous AMG models) with a puny 4-cylinder 2.0 engine.

Just a new brand. Some suggestions if anyone of you know someone from AMG marketing (I'm happy to take the brand management job lol)
Mercedes-AMG C 20 E-performance
Mercedes-AMG C 4c E-performance
Mercedes-AMG C P3s

I could come up with maybe half a dozen alternatives. It's not hard

There really isn’t any need for it. The CLE53 should be the stopping point. Putting a 4 cylinder over a 6 cylinder as the top of the line is just nuts.
