The biggest dealbreaker on the 3 is clearly the interior. It looks a good two segments below the C when both interiors are maxed out.

It is so silly how you argue on "performance" and "sportiness…

I bet that 70% of you never cross 100km/h in the city…Why the heck would you need F1 car performance?

God bless...

Maxed out?

I prefer this any day, but that is me, I like a sporty interior. No contest that C has better materials though, but not a fan of the un-teutonic design.

i am already finding it hard to forgive mercedes for the fact that they have SIMPLY shrunk the S in every possible way to the C, such as Air suspension, design, features etc, but now i think mercedes is going really OVERBOARD, i mean, come on diamond pattern interior for a C-class, that is simply outrageous lol...this feature is normally reserved for the most excusive high end luxury cars, and now you can get this in a C, doesn't seem right, as is the case with AIRMATIC.

Yes, but those options are really expensive, I think that they can almost double price of the base car.

For more sport-oriented drivers the car screams for a sport suspension and directer steering. Both are available as optional extras but none of the available test cars had those equipped leaving us without a chance to test it.

Didn't know that they are offering sport suspension and different steering. Wolf any info on this?

Got to see the C's interior in flesh. I mean it looks great in pics especially with certain colour combos, and the layout is modern but the center console, with the big piece of trim, while it might be of reasonable materials, i'm just not sure how it would age, and how it would wear. And if that piece of trim looks more like shiny plastic wood than anything else, it might perhaps give a sense of Jap cars with fake large pieces of wood trim. I'm not bashing but just another view about the interior. The F30, well it's just too messy, i mean i don't really get why the trapezium shaped centre center air vents, and i think they tried way too hard in making the cockpit "looks aesthetically" driver orientated too with all those unnecessary lines, while driver orientation should be "felt".

As dumb as it is for MB to develop their own transmissions and not opt for the ZF, I am grateful for them continuing to do so if only for the sake of innovation. Always better to have a competitor out there than (practically) a single firm handling most high-volume models' transmissions out there.

^ but there is no competition. MB's transmission is for a handful of cars only, and it is vastly inferior.
Just like their 9 speed will be old when ZF launches it's new one.

So, @Just_me, both MB manual AND automatic gearboxes are crappy relics.

Let's just focus on the good things about the car.

Lets not! Let us focus on all the crappy stuff. There's so much to talk about after all!

ZF appear to dominate but I think Japanese Aisin still are a player, obviously with Toyota/Lexus and so on, and even I think did the 8-speed auto in the Panamera, and then there's GM, who are supposed to be bringing out their own 8-speed auto in the next year or so.

The ZF 8-speed auto 'box stands out at the moment not just because it's better than the aging Mercedes 7G-Tronic Plus 'box, but because BMW foremost have excelled at tuning this 'box with their engines, as an overall package. The same 'box for instance in JLR and Jeep products is not as standout. The point is, yes the ZF 8-speeder is very good, but it shines thanks to BMW's exceptional tuning efforts. Without that skill the same box is little ahead of the Merc 7-speeder.

Mercedes are just in the process of equipping their 7G-Tronic Plus with a 'sailing function', in order to keep it on eye-level with the ZF 'box and VW group's double-clutch boxes, with the same function, which reduces fuel consumption by 1-2%.

The new, 'NAG3' 9-speed Merc auto 'box, as shown in the E350 CDI already, is set up for minimal engine revolutions, thereby reducing fuel consumption further. Auto Bild panned this 'box, but they prefer VAG. Let's see how it goes in the facelifted CLS later this year, in the hands of other testers, before we decide if ZF still has the upper hand in auto box supremacy.

Just a further note on ZF v Mercedes-Benz gearboxes.

Of course they are commercial competitors, but they also have much in common. Both Swabians, Friedrichshafen and Stuttgart, just 100 kms apart, and have deep historical links , through Maybach/Zeppelin/MTU(Tognum).

I have a small statistic to show…

And the W205 JUST STARTED SHIPPING(in few places)

This difference shows something…

We got the C, S coupe and now S63 coupe recently. And a C63 and S65 coupe around the corner.

Merc is quite generous with their fans lately.
They want me to actually PAY for their cars...

Back on topic: Forgot to ask whether the W205 uses plastic trim as is the case in the V-Class or it's actually real wood...
