Suspect it's MB-Tex like in the GL/ML, Martin, where it's option code U09 for about $300.
Leather may not wear so well when exposed to the sun on the dash?

The obvious inference is that Audi doesn't feel like the A4 measures up to the level the C-class has presented in this segment. I think it's a valid hypothesis, and if true serves as a great compliment to how 'right' Mercedes got things with the new C-class.

Maybe they'll reserve nappa for the AMG ? Ours has it ... the seats have worn out more than the dash area.

Which is my point, if leather is good enough for the seats, it is definitely good enough for the dash.

Suspect MB may offer leather again as in the predecessor. Might be a special order option, though, some salesmen don't want to know about.
The picture is from an owner in Finnland, who figured it out. Option code E06 together with designo black leather.
