THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE VEHICLE SOCKET AT MERCEDES-BENZ

Aside from the conventional tank opening, EQ Power vehicles - like the fully electric vehicles from Mercedes-Benz - also have a vehicle socket. We have put together the instructions for the indicator lights - and how to cancel the charging process and unlock the charging cable.

Charge status at a glance

The indicator lights directly on the vehicle socket indicate both the locking status and the charging status as well as the charging process.

The “Locking lock” indicator light flashes white as soon as there is a locking fault. As soon as the light glows continuously white, the socket is also unlocked.

The “Charging (battery)” indicator light shows information on the charging process. This flashes orange while the connection is being established and flashes green as soon as there is an active flow of energy. During a charging pause, the lamp gives an orange light, as soon as the charging process is finished, a continuous green lamp is displayed. As soon as the light flashes red, there is a charging fault.

The charging process itself can be canceled using the charging cancel button next to the vehicle socket. However, disconnecting the charging cable from the AC charging station after KEYLESS-GO has recognized the vehicle key, or the unlock button on the vehicle key or the charge cancel button has been pressed, cancels the process. The charging cable at DC quick charging stations, on the other hand, can only be broken off and removed by pressing the charge cancel button.

For EQ Power vehicles, a small note on tank ventilation: if the driver presses the unlocking button for the tank cap, the petrol / diesel tank may first have to bleed. Here it can take up to 60 seconds before the tank lid can be opened.

A250e saloon during moose and slalom dynamic testing. A little bit of extra body roll and its weight count slightly against it but otherwise the testers mentioned it was quite nimble

MB Passion explains the standby mode for folks who don't drive some of their MBs for months. A bitcoin mode may still be in the pipeline? :)

THE STANDBY MODE: WHEN THE CAR SHOULD REST

Even a Mercedes-Benz should possibly switch off properly - especially when, for example, you can fly again on vacation or if the vehicle remains stationary for a long time. Also ideal for people working from home, some of whom do not currently need their vehicle at all. The "standby mode" is recommended here, which many do not even know.

Standby mode largely deactivates all power consumers

A rather "hidden champion" is the standby mode for MBUX vehicles, which largely deactivates all power consumers in the vehicle. On the one hand, this saves the starter battery and also ensures that the vehicle starts reliably even after a long period of inactivity. A small note at this point: if you store your vehicle completely (e.g. your AMG performance model) in winter, you should take additional measures - here the standby mode is the wrong choice (keyword: C-TEK charger or similar battery maintenance systems as well as precautionary measures / protection against damage to the tires).

For vehicles with MBUX multimedia system (NTG 6)

On the other hand, the MBUX standby mode can be activated quite easily: The basic requirement is that the engine is switched off and the ignition is active (position 1). Then select the menu item “Settings” in the MBUX multimedia system. In the “Vehicle” menu item, the aforementioned standby mode can then be switched on or off again. When activated, the display shows the maximum standby time - that is, how long the vehicle can be started without any restrictions in the standby mode. This usually takes several months.

What a throwback. I have memories of watching the failed moose test on the news back in 1997.
I remember in 1997 how the launch of the A-class caused such a stir in the motoring press. It was a revolutionary and innovative design and so different from any other mainstream car. It was shocking to see the Moose test had caused its undoing with surprisingly for a Mercedes poor chassis behavior. It could have been a negative seed at the time in Mercedes Benz of the aggressive cost-cutting, maybe the A-class chassis tuning was sacrificed due to high cost of the unique design and powertrains that were not used in other models.

Some more news from 1997 showing the ill fated Elk test,

This standby is amazing, wish my 2018 e63 had had this, would last 2 weeks max before battery critically low warnigns, during lock down 1, 3 weeks and dead battery, had to jump start, never known a car to be so poor at holding charge. The sales guy said don't worry, just ignore messages, other battery will start it, but just wait til the battery is flat and you have to try and get into it manually. If you have a plug in hybrid, do the basic car functions still come from standard 12v battery or the larger battery?

A-Class sedan facelift (on the right) vs. current model on the left. Not much of an improvement in my opinion. Different bumper and diamond grille is now Mercedes star grille. Wouldn’t be enough to swap a pre-facelift model for a facelift one.

both cars are CLS

Interesting documentary on the different A-class models. I guess the FL for this current model must be ready to launch any time soon. It's been over 4 years since it was first introduced in Feb 2018 and due for update.
