A-Class (W176) [Official] Mercedes-Benz A-Class (W176)

The W176 model was introduced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show officially as a subcompact executive / C-segment model for the first time after being a supermini / B-segment for fifteen years.
Considering another $20k probably being too extravagant. I would never put it on the track and wouldn't thrash it either. It would just be so nice to have that incredible thrill of all that accelerative power on tap. But I guess it would be proportionately expensive to repair things down the track as well.

Where can I find out what I get for that $81,500. I couldn't seem to find anything on their web-site.

have a look at this:

Another question - I've been told that the privacy glass on the rear is just darkened glass, it doesn't actually have any UV protection. It's been recommended that I go for clear UV blocking tint on the back glass and full proper tints on the front.

Does anyone know if that's right or am I being taken for a (relatively inexpensive) ride?
Yes, that is right. I did go for the clear UV blocking. I need all the heat, UV protection I can get.

Who cares? :) All I know is you get an absolutely stonking engine, AWD and tight chassis that's going to eat nearly everything on the road - for breakfast! And all for under 100k! What more could a boy want? :)

you're a whitey like me :) I think about going out in the sun and I burn - I think I'll go for the clear. (not that I'm expecting to be in the back)

It is very tempting, but I'm thinking I have to draw the line at some point. I started out looking at spending about $45 and that has already snowballed up to $61, now I would love to indulge myself. But it is hard to justify an extra $22K for 2s less from 0-100 and ILS.

Although it does touch all the heart strings, how comfy would those seats be for long trips. I have read owner reports that the A250 seats are quite comfy. But I will sometimes be picking up my grandmother who is 87 and she has bad hips. They don't look like the easiest seats to get in and out of.

I just don't know if I could truly justify that extra dosh. I believe that I would truly enjoy those extra ponies but would it be worth $20k to me. I would accelerate hard to 100, then back off and hit cruise control. They would only be used for quick trips to 100-110km/h.

I can understand that it might be a bit of a status symbol, but I'm buying a car for myself to enjoy not to show off. So for me at the moment I think I would have to pass on an A45 at the moment. But I will definitely book in a test drive when they arrive. I might try an extended test drive to see if it is something that I would really like to spend that extra cash on. If it is I will just have to wait longer.

I do agree that it's perfect for boys :)

It's always difficult to justify the extra dosh when the A250 is ticking so many boxes. If you want to break it down 1 second = 10K. I too am in the same boat where I wasn't even going to spend that much on a car, but for me the A250 made better overall sense. Am I gonna get drivers envy every time an A45 rolls by? yeah probably - but there's almost something cool about the anticipation of possibly upgrading to something in that range 'next time'. Maybe I'm just coo coo.

At the end of the day 20K means 2 X business class tickets to pretty much anywhere!

So I got a pretty good deal :), yep that is $61k on the road it is a little more but can't quite remember now but maybe 400-$500. I think the dealer felt sorry for me as I'd been so set on the date they had given and was paying it off at a reasonable rate. When I came in and asked what he could do for an A250 he calculated the price then dropped his margin and it brought it under the $59,133 amount that increases stamp duty to 5%. So that cut approx $3k tax + their margin.

I was quite happy to go local dealers I called around in Melbourne before buying and asked for best pricing but no-one gave me as good. I didn't pit the dealers against each other just wanted to get a fair price. Apparently BMW here tell me that a lot of Melbourne Clients come out to service their cars and that their local pricing is cheaper than prepaid fix price services. Which matches what Mercedes told me in regards to servicing when I asked about the fixed price service deal.
by the look of it you did very well :p ....well at least I got free servicing...worth a few $$$ I suppose .... oh and Valet parking ..if i ever drive to Sydney or Melbourne and fly out of their respective Airports .

Apart from yourself Joyjas, I dont think MB are giving much away at the moment.

So many in white! This is making me think twice about color now...

You're right kaktusdigital. I would love to upgrade but $20k is a heap of money. The seats look too sporty I don't know if they would be comfortable for long drives. I do plan on driving this from Melbourne to Sydney/Brisbane etc with the family. These type of trips would be nice if they were comfortable I think the A250 is probably more practical for myself. Just might have to just live with the I could have had that feeling for the time being, and as you said maybe can upgrade. Do I need the extra power, NO!

I chose white because I figure that for that price it is a lot of petrol, and I actually like the white colour. White with the black panaramic roof should be awesome. The dealer has a car exactly the same as what I will be getting.

For those interested in tuning boxes I think this might be of interest.

http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/carlsson-releases-c-tronic-cb-kits-for-mercedes-benz-four-cylinder-cgi-engines-ar156390.html

It seems to have some safeguards built in that could help to keep everything running smoothly. They also offer drivetrain warranty.

I like the idea of a plug and play box where it leaves little trace that the car has been modded. The safeguards sound good as well. I wonder if the other tuning boxes have the same safeguards? I'm most interested in what Brabus offers simply because there's a local shop here in Melb that stocks their equipment (sharps performance)

Seems that Brabus is the most popular tuner (they've won best tuner 8 years in a row). I'd be surprised if they didn't have the same or similar safeguards in place. That said, I'm sure the Carlsson would still be good.

kaktus, did you ever get a price for the Brabus unit in Aus?

no, not yet. Figured I'll enquire after I've had the car for a bit. I'm hoping they'll have the 19"s as well as I'd love to see how much they'll cost.

Does anyone know if the standard A45 suspension is different to the A250? I'm hoping that 19 vs 18 ride quality will be quite minimal.

Not only that, you wont have to wash it every 3 days. I'm over dark coloured cars, they are too hard to keep clean, and get hot in summer.
