AMG ONE [Official] Mercedes-AMG Project ONE

The Mercedes-AMG One (R50, previously known as Project One) is a limited-production plug-in dual hybrid sports car manufactured by Mercedes-AMG, featuring Formula One-derived technology. Production: August 2022 – 2025 (275 units planned).
To make a summary of all the reviews so far:

PROS:
- great steering feel
- confidence inspiring chassis
- engine is exciting
- great traction

CONS:
- gearbox is slow and clunky
- brake feel is not the best
- seats are not supportive enough
- very loud inside
- weird programming turns off the engine if the battery is full

UNCLEAR:
- TG review says you can only get understeer out of the car but some others say that the turn in and front end grip are great

The most disappointing thing is that after 7 years of development the car is still not working properly. They, of course, have the catch all excuse that it's a "pre-production car", but if it's just a software problem, how hard would it be to upload the latest firmware/software that the production cars will be getting? In any case, it would be naive to think that if they weren't able to get it right in 7 years, they will fix everything in just 1-2 months when the first production cars will be delivered. It's telling how much confidence MB had in the car working properly that they didn't allow anyone to drive the car on the road - which I've always thought is the real test. Making a car work on track only is easy, but making it also work in the real world is much harder. So let's wait for that.

and chech engine)
No worries, Valkyrie had that too on a recent test drive.

Jokes aside, the car feels like a dissapointment. A slight leap above the Hyper 3 from 2015, wheras something like Senna and Valkyrie feel like a massive leap above those.

But can the Aston be trusted to be reliable?

They look odd. Like pads against the bulkhead. This is where the LaFerrari FXX offer a big advantage of custom seats customised to the driver’s body or preference.

What car at this level is as reliable as a Toyota? What would driving such a car like this on the road prove when it's main focus is the track?

A car with:

- a weight of 1750 kg (probably even without driver..)
- road legal tyres
- downforce level at decent speeds that is barely more than what? 1/3 of the vehicle weight?

has little business on serious track events.

This is a very fast road car which happens to have good amateur track capability (lot of power, AWD, high mechanical grip, exactly like the SF90), so it better not be shit.e on the road because otherwise its datasheet doesn't even justify its own existence.

Thank goodness you don't actually drive a data sheet. This car won't survive a week on most roads so I don't see it was a "road car" in the sense that a SF90 is. It's too compromised for most roads. It was intended for the track no matter how ill-suited you make think it is for such duty.

Indeed. This was a press day for probably the most anticipated, hyped, Mercedes in a long long while. At a time and place of their choosing. With probably a support team of gazillion engineers and mechanics. And they still struggled to do even one proper lap without going limp. And top it off with the super dumb excuse of how engine turns off if the battery is full! How does that even remotely sound okay?

This probably also explains why we only saw just that partial lap of Hockenheim. The car most likely went into limp mode at the point they cut the video.

I simply can’t view this car as an achievement. Its gestation is too protracted and problematic with a ridiculous amount of R & D whose resources would certainly have been better put to use elsewhere to benefit people who can only afford to buy one Mercedes Benz. These are the vast majority of Mercedes’ customers - hardworking, everyday people who ought to be the first priority and for whom the focus should be on delivering a more complete, premium product.

It may be a halo car, a celebration of Mercedes’ irrefutable success in Formula 1, but the actual deliverable simply isn’t. The sad reality is that the AMG ONE is more valuable to Mercedes fans than it is to Mercedes customers.

I don't disagree about the R&D on this car having been better used on everyday Mercedes' to improve them, but this about this particular halo car being more important to Mercedes' fans any more than any other brand's halo car is just ridiculous. I get that the car isn't the end all that Mercedes wanted it to be, but no halo car is important to a brand's everyday buyers. 99% of them can't afford it anyways. This re-writing of what a halo car is who is appeals to is just rubbish. They've always been more "valuable" to fans vs buyers the AMG ONE is no exception.

The acceleration and noise inside the car is insane, but the way the engine shuts off when the battery is full is a serious safety issue that needs to be sorted out for production cars. I am still divided by the exterior styling and think the interior doesn't look that special for the price, but the F1 powertrain when fully engaged is a big turn on.

Most of these hypercars live their life in a garage where their owners barely take them out for a spin. Here the AMG One 1.6i will do perfectly fine. Their owners can take friends to the garage and show this nice looking car with a claimed true F1 engine. For for this purpose its not important that the car is overweight, not hypercar-fast, sounds like a tractor, engine suddenly turns of etc.

Gercollector says it's the fastest car he's ever driven and in a different league to a McLaren Senna, which he also owns.
from the Hockenheim comparison video it looks like they're roughly equal in the corners but the Senna loses to the One's acceleration

Saw some track tests for the AMG ONE.

I have mixed feelings about what I've seen so far. I like how fun this car is on track, the noise, the acceleration, the grip, DRS and fun steering wheel (feel and shape).

But, I'm still disappointed that even after all these years spent to developed this car it still has some serious issues, like turn engine off when battery is full ?? wtf is this ? they resolved every obstacle they faces (exhaust, pre heating, idle RPMs, etc.) and now this ?

My verdict on this car is that it looks so cool and have lots of fun gadgets and features plus it has an F1 power train, if the 175 customers who bought it understands this then they will be happy. Regardless, I still think Mercedes spent too much resources on unnecessary car and a power train that will add nothing to the future of cars.

This car perfectly exhibits MB's current state of affairs:
An absolve clusterf#ck.
They should just transform this car to a V12 twin turbo and call it a day. Ditch all the "F1" battery hybrid nonsense.

I still like the craziness of it though. And I love the looks inside out.

This is a very fast road car

More like a very slow track car, because this really is not for any road at all.

Non e of these cars are going to be super reliable, but I think I would take a naturally aspirated v12 over a tt 1.6 any day.
