GT (C190) [Official] Mercedes-AMG GT Concept

The Mercedes-AMG GT (C190) is the first generation 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. Body styles: C190 (coupé), R190 (roadster). It is succedeed by the Mercedes-AMG GT (C192) - coupé, and the Mercedes-AMG SL-Class (R232) - roadster. Production: October 2014 – September 2022; 2021–2023 (AMG GT Black Series; 2022 (AMG GT Track Series; Limited 55 units).
I am amazed by the horrible photos of this car, the subtle curves, surfaces and broad shoulders are all over powered by the blue/red lighting, and the press release photos are photoshopped to the max.

Hmm. A bit of Ford, a bit of Hyundai, a little bit of BMW in the headlights...

Don't frikken go there man! You'll get heaped with disagrees and dislikes for pointing out such similarities - this AMG concept is simply bursting with originality. Not one bit of it is something we've seen before in one way or another.

I agree with you guys about the similarities, man this thing over the place! Remember it is just a concept designed to give abstract, exaggerated ideas of what is to come without revealing too much of the production car. Remember the GLE coupe concept and how the production version is toned down from it. Same thing will happen with the AMG GT4.

Agreement with your statement. I am a Mercedes Benz fan but I have also noticed the same when I did not to like any of the features or approach of the company and stated my opinion.

As far as similarities between other cars mentioned here especially Ford and this concept, I feel that yes there are some with front treatment between this concept car and Ford, but the overall profile is vastly different. I don't like the inverted grille (looks a little lousy and lazy) but this variation is much better here to the AMG GT-R. I would say that it more resembles the Aston approach which Ford grille also resembles IMO. I think in the real world the overall profile will be even more distinguished and individualistic than in the pictures. The hood shape, and not only shutlines; the bumper, the sides are quite different to the Fords. The rear instead is a homeage to the Porsche IMO which the GT also is but then Porsche is inspired by the original Beetle. But the GT concept still have unique touches in the rear to distinguish it from Panamera. The side profile is vastly different.

In pictures Panamera is a better designed car except the "eyes wide open" frog inspired headlight design IMO. And since this GT is a concept, the real thing would be less attractive, judging from the recent exhibitions. I am one of those few ones I think who liked the S Coupe concept much more than actual car. The exotic orientation was lost somewhere although the real car is still the best recent design from Mercedes.

I share the same reservations, have spared the judgment for now...Surely hope it looks better than this in flesh

Nice post - thank you. It's clear that you are a true Mercedes Benz aficionado because true aficionados are able to pick out flaws in the products that they are passionate and well-informed about.
Some people seem to think that being a car fan is like being a football team supporter and can't see anything beyond the badge. Every one of the German premium brands has their merits and their drawbacks. I like BMWs - a lot - so much so that I choose to drive one for business purposes. Do I think that BMW is all-marvelous? Hell no. The push away from rear-wheel drive toward compact FWD platforms is heresy for me and it is sanctimonious diatribe about BMW i being more justifiable than a more traditional sports car concept to cement the brand's status in response to those exact offerings from the competition.

There are many cars from Mercedes Benz that I really do prefer over their BMW counterparts but, state your well-informed opinion about Mercedes Benz (and for BMW for that matter) in a critical context and the football-mentality crowd climbs all over you. It's petty and juvenile. Be a fan of a brand, by all means, but don't defend it blindly no matter what. They're just cars made by car companies who each face the same economic and financial constraints as the other. The concept of a brand's outright superiority is simply unreasonable. Cars cost money to develop and manufacture and, somewhere down the line, something's got to go in the name of product costing. The reality is that the differences within a class are incredibly small.

I said it earlier in this thread - and got still got called out for it - the AMG GT Concept is a good looking car. The caveat is that it portrays numerous elements which were first made familiar on cars from other brands. And, for that matter, a lot of Mercedes owners and aficionados here have concurred.

This is just a prototype showing how the proportions of the production car will be. The headlights indeed are too concepty. I'm sure the headlight shape will be more or so similar but the internal graphics will be different on the production version. What I'm confident and impressed with the concept is its proportions and sleekness. There is not a single line that is not needed, details are all in the body sculpting and got to say MB have done tremendous job here, they have started it with the E coupe and this is the next step. The design looks so pure. Even without any lines it still has a very muscular hip and with the improved Panamerica grill design it looks like an aggressive super sport sedan. I'm impressed by it.

I concur wholeheartedly with this post. There are numoerous non objective MB guys on here...and for every one of them there is certainly a BMW counterpart.

It is going to be extremely interesting to see how this concept morphs into a production reality. I don't think the current design team has lacked a true grasp of the MB DNA in any of their recent production offerings, so how this concept plays out will be intriguing.

As the owner of a current Merc 4door coupe, I must say I am pretty disappointed at this AMG GT concept.

The presentation is of course MB level, so any mediocre car would come out reasonably attractive. The problem I have is this doesn't have any originality in terms of the overall shape. The size nose profile is a bit BMW-ish, the frontal view obvious a bit like the Mustang as others said.

The rugged frontal view doesn't match the super smooth aerodynamic rear side (imagine a greyhound w/ a bulldog face).

The butt is a bit 911-ish other than that little trunk lid crease.

The rest is more of the latest C class coupe.

There are some interesting and delicate details but all combined, it just doesnt do it for me.

The long back doesn't do it for me either. It looks almost like a mid engine car (of course this must be front engine model).

Compared to the McLaren 720S, this Merc looks like a failed project to me. The Concept IAA would have been better.

This generation actually is the first generation. The previous car was an A class in name only, and a radically different car.

And it's not a good hatch, imo.
Looks poor, drives poor, feels poor. Not a Benz in any way.

Uhm....the only thing I understand from this is my name.... :D

The one I thing I'll give the CLA/GLA/A-class is they're actually great handlers. Shame about the lack of suspension compliance in the A/CLA though.

It's simple - Mercedes has too many models. You can only bend and modify a design language so much before it becomes redundant.

In regards to the AMG GT Concept, the greenhouse and doorhandles scream Tesla, and the Panny is still more desirable.

For each new upper range concept, Mercedes needs to remove a lower range model, starting with either the CLA or GLA.
