Front end of the car reminds me on Shark. It's that not a typically BMW design?

“In quicker corners, the chassis gives you huge confidence and impressive feedback, and it’s not long before you switch to Race mode and relax the stability control; few cars with this level of performance are so benign. Yet it’s as entertaining and expressive as an AMG should be, and while its mass takes its toll on the tyres and brakes, it feels closer in spirit to the AMG GT coupe than it does the E 63 saloon.” - Autoexpress

Could it be the best four door performance car in the world?

New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door 2018 review

It will be fascinating to witness how effectively BMWs' M850i/M8 Gran Coupe and Audis' RS7 II confront M-B-AMGs' combination of Joshua Anthony and Mikhail Baryshnikov. I suspect that both will display the qualities of the former. BMW perhaps also those of the latter (Audi ?...not so sure...).

When it comes to "looks", it becomes a matter of personal taste. I'm anticipating something truly stunning from BMW especially, as I find the 2 door 8 series cars very appealing.

I'm not sure BMW is worth mentioning in the context of the AMG GT4Doors, G-Class or AMG GT. They don't have an answer.

Arguable certainly.

I do get the impression that M-B (M-B-AMG) have a more cohesive modus operandi versus BMW and VAG when it comes to the presentation and marketing of upper-level luxury/sport products. That is also paired with M-Bs' immense brand equity. To me, it appears that M-B "delivers" more quickly rather than resorting to what may be considered as being "overhype".
Case in point is excessive "teasing" of which BMW IMHO is a culprit. BMWs' new 8 series is a very compelling automobile and a feast for my eyes, but "THE 8" brouhaha could be a bit "much". M-B AMGs' 2017 Geneva Concept GT four door seemingly came out of nowhere. One year later...BOOM...the production version is revealed.

Comone. Gt4 is based on E class. BMW M8 on BMW 5. GT4 has the same engine as C 63 amg. M8 will have the same engine as M5.Interior design of GT4 is a mixture of E class and AMG GT. Interior of BMW 8 is unique. And also exterior design of BMW 8 is more unique as from GT4 (looks like mixture between Mercedes CLS and panamera). It's funny how some people are saying that Gt4 is worth 50000€ more as E63sAMG, but BMW M8 it's not worth 50000€ more as M5.

By your same argument, the 8 series is merely a rebadged 6 series, whereas Mercedes has chosen to to launch an entirely new sporting model under its AMG sub-brand , while continuing with the production of regular cars like the CLS etc. Platform sharing is common these days, as it makes financial sense for an automaker and shouldn't be used an excuse to dismiss instances where honor is due.

BMW's efforts are clearly focused on targeting an audience as wide as possible with fewer products, while Mercedes takes into consideration certain niches and release a product to fill that niche, with profitability in mind of course. Hence Mercedes has cars such as the Project One, and the AMG GT sub brand in addition to their EQ brands and various other products, and the rewards (market perception of the brand) are clearly indicated with the company's market position (as no 1 luxury automaker).

While the 8 series is a wonderful machine, I feel that its not what BMW fans truly wanted from a range topper with the #8. While is interior is bespoke, it certainly has nothing on the S-coupe, so imagine what the upcoming S-coupe is going to be like. Furthermore, how long have customers wanted a truly sporting model from BMW (R8, AMG GT, 911 challenger), and BMW in turn responded with the i8 and a bunch of ugly GT Cars?

Dont get me wrong, I was a die-hard BMW fan for many moons, but have grown to equally love the Mercedes brand in recent years, and hence I acknowledge their efforts and admire/want their vehicles today.

Just my 0.02c

The AMG GT 4 door shares the same platform as the E and CLS class it has nothing to do with the AMG GT sports car not the chassis and not the transmission, nothing. It’s not a AMG ground up project like the AMG GT or SLS was , it’s a modified E63S with rear wheel steering.

The M8 likewise will share the same platform with the 5 series and more so the 7 series because of the carbon fibre parts. Anyone who thinks the AMG GT 4 door coupe will not compete with the M8 has fallen for MB marketing BS.

As for the AMG GTS , G wagon and AMG-One , BMW doesn’t have an answer.

Absolutely. At this price range the Merc has a lot of competition, especially when trying to win customers who don't need rear seats. Although it might be mistaken for an E or CLS alternative, it's CRAZY expensive! Porsche 911 Turbo money!

"whereasMercedes has chosen to to launch an entirely new sporting model under its AMG sub-brand ," Yours Worte. This AMG gt4 is 10 Times bigger Bullshit as BMW 8. Ist all about marketing. But Mercedes fans do not accept that.

^I'm glad we've come to the conclusion that the GT4 is only 10 times more bullshit and not like 11 or 12 times more bullshit. Thank you for your knowledgable insight.

BMW 8 Series is called 8 Series, you can argue that it's a 6 Series, but same goes for AMG GT 4 door. They can name it whatever they want to.
The difference is this car is unique and it's been developed and honed by AMG and is an AMG stand alone model, not a Mercedes model and then AMG version developed later. The 8 series is developed and built by BMW and not M division (that will be the M8 when it comes out) no matter there is platform sharing, there is a difference.
