G-Class [Official] Mercedes-AMG G63 AMG (W464)

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, colloquially known as the G-Wagon or G-Wagen (as an abbreviation of Geländewagen), is a four-wheel drive luxury SUV manufactured by Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch) in Graz, Styria, Austria, and sold by Mercedes-Benz. Originally developed as a military off-roader, later more luxurious models were added to the line. In certain markets, it was sold under the Puch name as Puch G until 2000.

Damn I was hoping that the V12 was confirmed.

M
Its sad that the V12 is slowly dying off. It would be lovely to see a new gen V12 with hybrid tech. Imagine a AMG G65 with 850hp V12 hybrid, it will be a beast and eat Huracans for breakfast lol,

MERCEDES EQG (2022)

The electric G-Class is coming

Mercedes launches a purely electric powered version of the legendary G-Class. This confirmed Daimler boss Ola Källenius at an industry congress. "There will be an emission-free EV version of the Mercedes G-Class. There had been discussions in the past about stopping the model. As I see it now, the last Mercedes we build is a G-Class. "

The confirmation follows a series of speculations. In 2017, for example, the company already had the series designations of all EQ models protected - including the model name "EQG". In early 2018, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger publicly got Dieter Zetsche vague promises for the E-version of the G, whereupon the then SUV boss Gunnar Güthenke told auto motor und sport (issue 5/2018): "Well, there we have now probably a development contract. At the very least, the ladder frame construction would be well suited to accommodate the batteries."

Mercedes is looking for developers

Incidentally, since mid-2019, the car manufacturer has been looking for a development engineer for the energy management and charging system in the G-Class's electric powertrain at the production site of the G-Class. Already in the job description Daimler speaks of the "system responsibility ... to maturity".

Which possibilities has the Mercedes G-class, showed the end of 2017, the Austrian company Kreisel. They built, in addition to a Hummer H1, and a G-class with electric drive train, which consisted of two electric motors with 490 hp.

Visually, the difference from the Mercedes G-model to the EQG should not be particularly strong. As a small blueprint you could take the boxy design of the upcoming, the electric version of the GLB.

CONCLUSION

The G-Class, with its powerful and high-emission engines, spoils the company's carbon footprint. As a consequence, only the end of the iconic model would be in question, or the departure from conventional engines to electric drive. This shows Mercedes innovative and forward-looking, could continue to sell its conventional G models in the relevant and high-margin markets. And climate protection does not stop at the borders of Russia or Saudi Arabia ....

sooooooo, I take it that a BEV G-class will not be the choice of trekking out into the middle of Africa or the Empty Quarter in Oman? ;)
