E-Class [Official] Mercedes-AMG E 63 4MATIC+ and E 63 S 4MATIC+

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive cars manufactured by Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations. Produced since September 1953, the E-Class falls as a midrange in the Mercedes line-up, and has been marketed worldwide across five generations.
The new Panamera Turbo is going to get it's butt kicked by the whole class: RS6, E63 and M5.

Did y'all see - it's a new twin twin-scroll turbo arrangement. I wonder what that'll do to the current 4.0's exhaust acoustics...

Does scroll turbo chargers affect the acoustics though? Isn't the purpose of scroll turbochargers to optimise the flow and maximise the boost at low and high rpms?

Night and day the difference:

What a difference. Amazing. :)

Twin scroll turbochargers absolutely do affect acoustics because they split half of the exhaust pulses into two, separate volutes (a fancy word for turbo input chamber) this separation - for reasons which I can't accurately explain - results in a less tuneful, more monotone exhaust note in comparison. Some engines, depending on how the engineers have tuned the exhaust plumbing for resonance, are better at mitigating this inherent sound "muffling" which twin-scroll turbo'ing brings.

I knew it had some kind of change to the engine by just listeing to it, it has a different tune.
Still a brutal one though..

When i look at it again today, i find it very attractive, i was not sure yesterday.

It is indeed very badass, and seems to pull like a mother bitch.
Neckbreaking acceleration.. kind of a scary car, im getting old.. cars like these make me nervous:)

LoL.. he does not know what the Panamera can do, rule of life.:
1 php (porsche horsepower)= 1.52 hp ( regular cars)

550php=836hp ( thats what's needed out of a non porsche to beat a 550hp porsche) :D

It sounds mega in the videos. They must have done some clever acoustic tuning.

@Giannis or other mods. Any chance the "OFFICIAL" prefix could be added to the thread? I like these prefixes and when they're not present the threads tend to fade into the background.

And @martinbo or anybody else. How should I categorise the transmission in my database for this car. Is it an "auto"? This is how I describe a traditional automatic gearbox such as the "9-speed 9G-TRONIC auto", or the "8-speed Steptronic auto". Or is it a dual-clutch, as in "7-speed M DCT dual-clutch"?

Done.

It is most certainly not a dual clutch transmission in the specific sense of the definition; a true dual clutch transmission by definition has two superimposed transmission input shafts - each with its own clutch. Each clutch alternately engages with the engine flywheel and its input shaft drives a dedicated set of output ratios - typically in odd and even gear ratio separation like so:

Clutch and input shaft 1: Gears 1, 3, 5, 7
Clutch and input shaft 2: Gears 2, 4, 6

The clutches interact and swap drive from one input shaft to the other in a pre-selected sequence when accelerating and decelerating. This is the primary reason for dual-clutchers shifting so quickly.

The AMG Speedshift MCT range of transmissions is a conventional (planetary geared) automatic transmission except for the fact that it makes use of a wet start up clutch pack to engage with the engine flywheel rather than the traditional torque converter coupling (like that in the ZF8HP). The reason for this is to achieve a more direct connection (the fluid coupling's characteristics and need for torque converter "lock-up" are negated) between the engine and the transmission for improved response.

^ in Obsidian black "cruising" on the Autobahn at 300 km/h... wannahave factor of this car growing and growing. Sorry guys, I'm a bit overwhelmed by this car, can't think straight, on the verge of pure enthusiasm :D

Thanks. (y)

Cheers for the info. So, I'll put it down as "9-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT auto".

Going from autobahn crusier style to speed demon style...it suits you very well Mick..and giving the middle finger to slower traffic when doing 300km/h :finger: :D
