Official Thread [Official] Lotus Electric Hypercar now confirmed

I believe the claim is an 8.8 second quarter mile, which in the real-world is likely to be

to a 186mph quarter speed.

I mean, that's what it says when they take your reservation money, what source could possibly be more reliable than a salesman chasing a deposit?

No. 0-186 mph in less than 9 seconds

Less can be so much more when it comes to automotive design:

Monolithic,organic.
Smooth lines and coherent design. Some may say Ferrari derivative, but their designs work for me as well.

Haven't ranked these hypercar designs yet, but I think both the Battista and Evija are at the top for me. While the Evija's design has more details, I consider those details well-integrated. The best way I can describe them is that if either rolled down the street, I'd be slack-jawed with the Evija but I would spend a bit more time poring over the Battista's details. I really like 'em both.

BTW, the Lotus' steering wheel looks like the best interpretation of racecar steering wheel for the streets. Relatively uncluttered, legible, and practical.

You asked me for a source on the Tesla claim... the Tesla claim, is 8.8 second quarter mile... from that I'm roughly equating 8.8 secs worth of maximum acceleration to yield a speed around 180mph.

Taken from Tesla's UK website today:

I wanted to establish if the Tesla was capable of such a time to 186 mph in light of you stating that it's faster than the EVIJA.

A quarter mile time of 8.8sec wont result in an exit speed of 300km/h. A McLaren 720S does 5.0sec to 100mph and 9.7sec at 145mph (233km/h) at some drag strips. I would estimate about 160 to 165mph as exit speed for an 8.8sec run.

I think comparing manufacteur claims at this early stage does not make that much sense. Both cars will be fxxxing fast, that's for sure.

They are limiting production to just 130 units so expect car collecters to fund Lotus' foray into Hypercars.
Yea, but even given the limited numbers or mind boggling performance, kind of hard to justify $2 million for BOM costs of what? 200k-300k at most.

I find your lack of faith in shepherd prime Musk disappointing. It's decreed that Tesla Roadster will do 250mph, this means (for the little data we have on aero - therefore some assumptions being made), the Roadster will have about 56% more horsepower than the 720S. I don't find it too much of a stretch that an AWD vehicle with no need to worry about gearing, and over 1100hp could achieve around a 180mph quarter speed. Electrons are love, electrons are life, don't resist. Even obsolete internal combustion dinosaur engines manage 300mph+ quarter mile speeds.

Jokes aside and out of just passing concern for a fellow Internet denizen - have you considered seeking professional help about the effect just thinking of Musk is having on you? I seriously doubt all that passive aggressiveness is good for your general mental well being.

$2-3 Million Lamborghini and Ferrari body-kits want to have a word with you.
If those are justified, then so is this car. More so considering nothing in the brand shares it's parts.

There is no passive aggressiveness, only the smooth taste of avocado, and the gentle Californian breeze wafting through my hemp sandals as I listen to quintessential yacht rock classics...

Jokes aside, in order to avoid fanboiism I've become accepting of all diatribe from all automotive execs, rather than choose those I believe based on personal cognitive bias or logical fallacies.

Kifflom brother.

I am guessing you are talking about cars like Lamborghini Reventon... then no, I do not think the prices for those are justified either (even less so). But no need for any words - it just a casual and personal opinion. We are not talking basic life necessities here, so I fully support the right of manufacturer's including Lotus to charge what ever they see fit.

The BOM doesn’t cover the development costs over what will be a small run of cars. $2m is probably fair enough, it’s about what you pay for some other cars.
