LFA [Official] Lexus LF-A Supercar (Production Version)

The sound of the LFA engine is the cleanest sound I ever heard on production cars. The 1LR-GUE must be fully polished so as the headers and titanium exhaust.

Motor Trend compares Lexus LFA to original Acura NSX

There's a slice of yesterday and a slice of tomorrow in the latest episode of Motor Trend's Head 2 Head. Jonny Lieberman takes the captain's chairs in the Acura NSX, a sports car whose praises are still being sung as if by Greek chorus 21 years after its introduction, and the Lexus LFA, a kinetic banshee whose V10 wailing has seemingly reawakened the moribund Japanese supercar industry.

On top of the driving, Lieberman gives a lesson in the details that behind each coupe's development and the finer technological points that help define each car. We could tell you more, but that would cheat you out of a good show. Oh, and Ayrton Senna makes a cameo. Have a watch below.

It has to be the worst LFA review ever. Everything seems to be contradictory to what 99% of the other reviewers say.

I was looking at lexusenthusiast.com and the chief editor said it best.

It is very unfortunate when you see negative bias so apparently that Motor Trend has shown towards LFA mostly because LFA videos cause much more than typical controversy, which means lots of hits, comments and subscriptions for them, which in turn means more money for them.

I wasn’t planning on posting this video from Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman comparing the Lexus LFA and Acura NSX, but feel compelled after emails from multiple readers — here’s the eighteen minute video that I don’t recommend watching:

Long story short: Lieberman loves the NSX and hates the LFA, and makes no effort to hide it.

This in itself wouldn’t be so bad, but there’s a calculated desperation to Lieberman’s complaints about the LFA, with constant references to the Lexus supercar being “flawed” with little explanation, comparing the LFA’s transmission to the worst modern car he’s ever driven (the Smart TwoFour, seriously?), and calling the driving experience “squirrelly”, “hard to live with” and “annoying”.

All the editorial hyperbole ends up being very tiring and makes for awkward viewing, especially at the end of the video, as we watch Lieberman cruising up and down the 2nd Street Tunnel in the LFA, a big smile on his face.

(The only other time I’ve seen such a skewed review of the LFA is from…wait for it…Motor Trend last year

I like Honda NSX and S2000, but shamefully today they do not offer any worthy car, and even worse they decided not to produce the HSV, the LFA's rival. If they had it, they could say whatever they wished, but they have nothing and it is not a more than 10 year old car that will change anything.

It was more of an NSX informercial, really (especially in the end). It is apparent that not having proper grippy or racing compound tires put together with so much horsepower makes it very technical for a person with such limited ability like him to handle. One could say, Lexus should have put proper sticky tires, but it all depends on the perspective since easy playful nature comes from a car not having too much traction.

His abilities seem limited to 200 HP cars, if the car does not have lots of driver aids or maybe very sticky tires.

If he was triggering the traction control while trying to stomp resulting in power being cut like he claims, that really means he was driving like a moron who does not know how to respect the car's power.

Also, what the hell was that "only smart 4-2 has single-clutch automated" all about?? He seems clueless about cars.

It's sad because I liked his articles from his Autoblog days, but he might be trying too hard at making himself out to be a cult automotive journalist in the mold of Chris Harris or Clarkson. The fact that he compares this car to a Smart rather than, say, a Gallardo or the (discontinued) F430...essentially cars in the LFA's level, leads me to that conclusion. Hey, anything to rack up the number of views on Youtube, right?

But, it should also be noted that I'm biased but on this forum it's darn near a well-established fact. ;)

PS: The NSX is still just the bee's knees. A true modern classic if there ever was one as it turned some of the rules on its face for the established players. To have the NSX and the M-B 190E 2.6 EVO, a garage like that would be an homage to Senna himself.

There are many cars these days that use single-clutch transmission so his analogy (even if he did not know) definitely was not based on good intentions.

One's I can think of are Aston Martin One-77, Aventador, Pagani Zondas and all other Lamborghinis, endurance racing cars, F1 racing cars etc.

We had new pics and reviews of the F12, and I thought that is officially my new dreamcar, especially because the LFA is "impossilbe" to get anymore, even if if tomorrow I'd win at the lotery. I thought to myself, why care the F12 is som much faster. But now after watching this vid, I imagined myself in an F12 and felt I missed the LFA, I would still prefere it. LFA is just too awesome.
