Looks like the driver wil have an exciting time behind the wheels
Look at the airvents on both sides of the steeringwheel ^^
WOW Massive! Hehe

Probably so! I'm sure when it comes down to it, people will purchase the car that looks better. In some cases they may pick the Ferrari, just to look better at the country club. The GTR is a great buy, on the other hand who (that can afford it) can say not to a Ferrari that looks as good and is as talented as the 458?

Agreed.:D

Perfect placement for drying sweaty palms in the heat of the moment! [And I'm being deadly serious.]

Superb attention to detail for a truly driver-centric car. Forza Ferrari.

*So true so true ... sadly

I must say that I actually find this rather unfortunate for Lamborghini.
Now the Alu (should be carbon in the Lambo) vents are looking
quite agressive and not like in anyother car I've seen.
Cause they are a massive senter of the console design.
(and they look good) :eusa_clap Ferrari.

What I am trying to say is that they actually looks like a console trademark,
"reminds" me of Murcie's air vents for the engine / cooling system. One of a kind

I hope I can find something bad about it and drag it down in the Shit!

Also come to think of it, I know Ferrari had the F40 with 3 exhaust pipes
but that should also be Lambo that looks most insane and rocket'ish.

Another question is this good design for a Ferrari?
I thought if you look at the 599.. it is quite sofisticated design wise..
Runs like hell but looks rather normal isn't that what the Ferrari owner's want...
Show some class ?

Now all of a sudden Lamborghini's look "normal" sportscar.. and they are supposed to look INSANE!

Ah this 458 scares the crap out of me !
Random numbers btw ?
I hate it !!!!!!!

For some reason Lambos always seem to be straight forward in there design. Even though they are dramatically aggressive they still lack that elegant yet sporty look of Ferrari. Me personally I would take either one in a heart beat, but the Ferrari 458 is :icondrool. It is an unspeakble beauty about it. The lines and curves of it just fit so perfectly together. Almost seems as though Ferrari takes more time with their design then Lambo, but both a superior cars regardless of design.

I would still like to see a super Ferrari and Lambo (not the revention seeing as though it's looks exactly like the Murc) take on the Bugatti. Maybe something with a 0-60 in a 2.2 sec range. But for now the Ferrari 458 is all I need.

There, there, Julius. Don't fret brother. We're here for you if you need some counselling. We don't want you going all crazy and shooting up the factory in Modena because "you're scared". Take a deep breath, and just relax. :D

LOL, all the silliness aside, this is a new direction, or should I say back to the old direction, of design for Ferrari. With the 458, they're back to their ways of designing with flair and passion. While the 355, 360 and 430 are sexy machines, they are in no way as "Showy" as this. This car just screams for attention, and as we've seen from the reaction of the "intertubes", it's getting exactly that.

Good job Pininfarina on the design. :t-cheers:

The steering seems somewhat F1 ish.
But no 9-way Traction Control sadly.

What is random though is the the rules that are used to come up with the name. It changes from model to model for Ferrari. F430, had 4.3 l engine, but definitely not 0 cylinders and 599 not 9. Same with the designation for their F1 cars, the rules keep changing.

Through Ferrari's history their names have almost always been associated with displacement or cylinder numbers. The early cars used to go by the volume of a single cylinder, later ones (the 308, 328, etc.) by displacement and cylinders.

Since the 355 (except for the 612) it seems most of the names have been centered around displacement only, much like Mercedes.
:t-cheers:

I think it just stood for 3.5 liters....
Just like the F430 doesn't have 0 valves per cylinder but does have 4.3 liters...

Then they would've called it 350. Like 360. To my memory, Ferrari were very proud of this new, high-revving 3.5 litre flat-plane crank V8 with its 5 valve head. Hence the additionally mentioned 5 in the nomenclature.

I stand to be corrected of course.

Edit:

Wiki entry:

The nomenclature does not follow the formula from the previous decades, ie. engine capacity + cylinder number (eg. 246 = 2.4 litres + 6 cyl, 308 = 3.0 litres + 8 cyl, and same for the 328, 348, 512 etc). This time, Ferrari used engine capacity plus number of valves per cylinder, as they were proud to boast about this technological advancement, ie 355 = 3.5 litres engine capacity and 5 valves per cylinder.

martinbo's been around for a while now... :)

But these things do change, just like a BMW 535d only has a 3.0 liter engine, etc...

And I promise - I'll never forget it, no matter how much sDriveWhooshTurboHyperHybrid35SqueezeIgnitionV2.00 badging they'll put on it in the future!

:D

Of course they change, but more often than not, it's the exceptions to the rule that stick in one's head! :)
