Z Series [Official] E89 BMW Z4

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
Hey one of them is RDL:D

Well they could add a thin LED on the center silver strip down there:D

I have foglights but I have never used it and its forbidden to use in Sweden unless the weather is bad so for me it doesnt matter. And the new Z4 looks good just as it is :usa7uh:

^Yeah it's fine the way it is but i'm one of those guys who actually like fogs down there unless it's a high performance car:D

True the Roadster does not accomodate the V8 used from the M3, but the Coupe model which was designed also features significant engineering to accomodate the V8. BMW like to think that the Roadster and the Coupe are two very different cars and not just a more exciting variant .
BMW see the Coupe only for the M badge.

Whereas continuation work commences on the Coupe , if BMW see a debut for this car it follow the pattern by the current (or previous) Z4 Coupe and debut when the new 3er coupe generation is about to debut to provide sustainability to the phasing out of the E92 M3.

As for A twin-turbo six cylinder in the next M3? That is press speculation.
as for the M5 both solutions as V8 and V10 are being tested extensively, as there is plenty of time to do so. BMW and M Division have discovered that Redeveloping and Turbo charging an upgraded V8 and V10 brings better fuel economy with a credible burst of further performance.

BMW are not interested in the pissing war of bigger PS output and straight line speed , The new generation of M cars will focus on providing the best car in it's segment for the driver and offer some unique perspective for a performance car for the future. Yes I am afraid the E-Klasse AMG and the RS6 will outperform the M5 in the PS stakes but PS is not everything the M5 is or will be about , Relevance is. And the future M5 will be very relevant to todays requirements whilst offering the most exciting drivers car as the M5 has always been.

Daammmnn!!!!! :icondrool:icondrool:icondrool :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Congratulations to the team, Scott! That is absolutely flawless!

OK, let's wait for the next M5. In case it'll have an TT V8 (the obvious choice), we likely can rule that one out for the next M3. Thus an TT six cylinder would be necessary for the M3. We're talking about 2013 at the earliest, not even an M3 can "afford" consuming 14l then. ;)

Best regards, south

The Coupe will therefore seperate the boys from the men.. Although I love roadsters, I guess it makes sense and I respect that. At least BMW remains true to the M concept unlike Porsche who produce an AWD twinturbo cabrio with tip-tronic which is, quite frankly an elephant of a sports car..

Thanks for the information. That is indeed surprising that BMW will not offer a M-version of the hard-top Z4 roadster. You say that the roadster does not "accomodate" the V8 from the M3, but the future Z4 Coupe does. Does this mean the front end design of the 2 are significantly different? Or is it a matter of simply changing some subtle things like a new hood with a big bulge??

The notion that BMW only sees the M-badge for the Z4 Coupe and not the Z4 hard top roadster makes no sense at all. If so, why in the world do they offer the E93 M3 hard top cabrio???

This car is a true beauty !!!

I find it extremely encouraging that the Company is revaluating the launch of an M version of this car. On the other hand, I do believe that the launch of the car towards the end of its' cycle, with the remnants of the s65 e92 is sort of a half hearted approach. I understand that a sedan has a wider audience, but if the company would alocate resources in order to produce a 2-seat P-car beater early in its life, that would probably help the sales figures of the whole z4 range; and that would be a formidable task.

Yeah lets hope so because the M3 Cabrio with DCT surely isn't "true" to the M Concept.

I was not exactly happy when the car was leaked.
But now the covers are off and you can understand in full BMW's intention for the Z4 and the reason for "Amplification"

Stay tuned. The web special is only several minutes away and moving forwards to the launch there will be more online specials to give a more detailed look at the development of the car and the people behind it.

Aswell as a look at the creation of the marketing factors including the factors of sDrive brand name and why a manufacturer would not budge on a color name chosen similar to Kia's issue with another recent BMW.

I know Scott, but that leak a week ago showing the rear end of the Z4 wasn't revealing too much but still drew a lot of attention. It made people even more anxious and it was amazing how many of them, on a Saturday afternoon, came to all the blogs or sites, to see the new Z4.

So, I think you guys did a good job hiding the car.

I was surprised no one broke the embargo, so that shows respect towards BMW. If the official photos would have been leaked, then that would have been an issue.

Regarding M version ....

Sources say BMW are playing with idea to offer the same formula prepared for the now frozen "new Z8": a hardtop roadster without M version, while a dedicated coupe version will be an exclusive M car: kind a M4. With S65 V8 engine. Offered to fill the gap after the M3 production stops.

Now all depends on the financial status of BMW AG in 2009 & later.
