Z Series [Official] E89 BMW Z4

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.
Regarding M version ....

Sources say BMW are playing with idea to offer the same formula prepared for the now frozen "new Z8": a hardtop roadster without M version, while a dedicated coupe version will be an exclusive M car: kind a M4. With S65 V8 engine. Offered to fill the gap after the M3 production stops.

Now all depends on the financial status of BMW AG in 2009 & later.

M3 production stop?, That is when? 2012? Z4 M is more than that I think.

that scenary reminded me so much on 300 :D

Don't know if anybody has mentioned this yet, but the unladen (EU) weight of the Z4 Roadster with the twin turbo is 1580kg.....1600kg if you opt fo the dual clutch transmission.

For those who complain that the 135i is heavy (unladen EU weight is 1560kg), you won't be impressed with the new Z4 Roadster either. My opinion?......it's no big deal, as I'm sure this new Z4 will handle quite well.

Speaking of which GBOY, I wouldn't mind seeing an M or Tii version with CFRP panels in that folding roof, BMW... Could be quite a stunner.

It seems that the seats we see in every pics are optionnal sport seats.

Has anybody seen a picture with normal seats ?

Like it.... a lot!

But I notice in the press release the 'reduced rolling resistance tyres'. Anybody has an idea what that does to the handling? Especially as I guess they will be run flats.

Did anybody here the drive it? How is the handling?

Would love to have a pic in black/black....

wait a second ... you realised that it was a photoshop work, didn't you ?

I my eyes BMW does make a big mistake!

Ferrari brings the california with 460PS V8 and it is sold out for month...
BMW brings a VERY NICE car with old and lame engines - just to live up to some CO2 marks - nobody cares about...

And now they will bring the V8 only in the coupe?

BMW should hire some of the Ferrari Marketing guys !!

BMW starts selling "performance parts" - like in "kindergarden" - why dont they sell performance cars?

True the Roadster does not accomodate the V8 used from the M3, but the Coupe model which was designed also features significant engineering to accomodate the V8. BMW like to think that the Roadster and the Coupe are two very different cars and not just a more exciting variant .
BMW see the Coupe only for the M badge.

It is fantastic that there is coming a Coupe version of the new Z4 but only an M-Coupe?
So people who can not affort an M-version can not buy a Coupe... :icon_roll

This is just part of the strategy that BMW is following now, they seem to care more about C02 than about performance. But at least they still make such marvellous cars like this new Z4.

I really like this..... im just hoping for a dark grey with beige/white seats... and bigger wheels.... something like this!!

What are you really contributing here?

What message are you intending to convey to the community? That the multi-award winning engines in all of the mainstream Z4 models are "lame"? What has a mass-market, power-to-the-people roadster have to do with an exotic supercar intended for none but the very wealthiest?

A roadster that does 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds with a silky smooth twin-turbo'd six is far far more relevant, intelligent and sustainable than any V8 M-Roadster.

V8-engined M-Roadsters are nice for pub-banter and boy-racer dreams but that doesn't in any way make lesser-engined Z4s any less special.

We're on the verge of the biggest buy-down trend in the automotive market in 30 years; I'm certain that this Z4 is perfect for the times - for buyers who just can't justify an XK-R Convertible, 911 Convertible or whatever else...

Have the 300 on Blueray but not watched it yet is it any good?

I dont really entertain fanboys when they question the weight of our cars when you find out eventually that they own a blinged out modified Honda Jizz.
;)

With the new Z4 Coupe BMW will focus more on the performance and the handling of the car and the new Z4 Coupe will seperate from it's Roadster brother by being stiffer and lower with certain design features to differentate the Coupe from the Roadster with a ower roof line and glasshouse, different shaped and larger air intakes , rear diffuser and ducktail spoiler , The overall look is more a traditional coupe with out looking like a two door hatch. Also designed as a look back to the Z3 is a Z4 Shooting Brake utilising a similar shape to the quirky Z3/M Coupe but with a more progressive - aggressive sloping roof designed to match the E89's design.
Both of these cars are on the drawing board but the Coupe will have a better chance of seeing production , but if the Z4 does exceptional even surpassing it's targets , BMW will want to maximize use of the Z4 platform.
