Z Series [Official] E89 BMW Z4

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

Moving inside the car, we see an interior that almost exactly duplicates that of the CS Concept’s. In my opinion, this interior really focuses the dash and instruments much more toward the driver, which is thankfully the opposite of the direction BMW’s interiors had been moving. Granted it’s difficult to tell, but the fit and finish of interior appears to be very refined and polished and pulls design cues from the CS again with the electronic handbrake and the unfortunately goofy looking shifter on automatic/DCT models. That said, the Z4 will be a very comfortable, cozy place to be that wraps around it’s occupants juxtaposed to the somewhat expansive, long dash-laden interior of the previous Z4.

This sounds very plausible ...

Indeed - N53 & N54 engines are Euro4 only. And since only 6-cyl engines are in the offer ... This is it.

:t-cheers:

I wonder when Euro5 N53 & N54 engines will be ready though. :eusa_thin
The Euro5 deadline is September 2009.

Will the fine particle filters be introduced in DI gasoline engines as well (like in diesel engines)?

According to North American & German press releases the N54 in sDrive35i is Euro 5 compliant and has DI :usa7uh::

BMW Z4 sDrive35i:
Reihen-Sechszylinder-Benzinmotor mit Twin Turbo und Direkteinspritzung
(High Precision Injection)

BMW Z4 sDrive35i: performance with efficiency thanks to Twin Turbo and High Precision Injection.

I realy dont understand some of you guys. We are talking an absolutly emotional car here, priced with some options between 50.000 and 70.000€, which's "driving cost" (tires, fuel, oil) will depend largely on the drivers foot, so who could possibly be interested in a few bucks more or less due to CO2 taxes?
To me that sounds like taking a year off to travel the world and then woundering if one should buy the noname flip-flops or the brand for 10 bucks more?

the only thing that bothers me about this wounderful car is the small fuel tank and the relatively "weak" engines... definitely missing an "insame" version of 400HP or more. The Z4 is a dream car, but missing the "kicker engine".
Ferrari California with V8 460HP is definitely more intersting...but too expensive!
I hope BMW will bring a 400-something HP version soon, priced at about 60.000.

The headlights are growing on me rapidly... The design of this new Z4 is pure win, inside out.

Bartek's pic above is my new wallpaper. Looks freakin sick....

Yes, there must be a difference between the emissions of the "older style" homogenous DI as found in the N54 and the spray-form DI of the N53 engines. That's why I was talking about HPI engines: BMW uses this term for all of their DI engines, but strictly speaking it's only true for the N53 engines. ;)

You're right.
Interesting. Since 135i, 335i & xDrive35i featuring N54 engine are still only Euro4 complaint. :eusa_thin

While 740(L)i & sDrive35i with N54 engines are indeed fit for EU5.

Same case with N64 engine: xDrive50i = EU4, 750(L)i = EU5

What a mess ... :D

As I said: N64 also 'just' has homogenous DI, the devil might be in the spray-form method. :D

What? The car hasn't even had it's official launch yet so how on earth can you expect anybody to answer that? :t-banghea

It's worth a try. Do you know some persons on this board have spent time around the car and have produced marketing material? I've seen much weirder questions answered.

I found it incredible that the E89 has a through loading option to the passenger seat area (the seat must tilt significantly forward). Never saw that on a roadster!

????

This is a very weird engine model decision.

Eg.
330i cabrio (N53 272HP) = 185g/km CO2 ... vs ... Z4 sDrive 30i (N52 258HP) = 199g/km CO2
325i cabrio (N53 218HP) = 181g/km CO2 ... vs ... Z4 sDrive 23i (N52 204HP) = 199g/km CO2

N53 engines definitely are cleaner.

So ... I'm clueless.
bmw cost cutting?

Hehehe, Dr Draeger should sign up here! :D

or that woman in charge of 'design engineering' (the dark haired curly one) She was in charge of the N64 engine before her promotion....what was her name again>?

Yet N64 in X6 xDrive50i = EU4, while the one in 750(L) = EU5. :t-hands:
The X6 xDrive50i is completely weird: Officially classified EU4, but the press release was all about how the N64 engines meets the EU5 standard. I guess by that time it was not possible to get an EU5 classification yet.

I 'm a bit late at the party but i must say that i 'm quite impressed with the new Z4. After the disapointing in terms of design previous generation we have again a winner although the hood could had been a bit smaller.:D

So, the engine meets the EU5 standard but is classified as the EU4 one?

:usa7uh:

Yes, that's my understanding. I'd expect its reclassification within the next months, though. BMW can't miss that out, can they?

Er, yes. Do you think they've bothered to find out if you can fit your guitar in the trunk? No.

Hi,

long time lurking, first time posting.

But I feel that this is the right time/car to do the first time. :) (Sound kina wrong, but well...)

I was getting a little cold towards BMWs Models in the last couple of months but this car has me back on the bavarian side. I love it. Going to be my wallpaper for a long time, I guess.

Or with the words of Eric Cartman: "Totally awesome".
