Porsche claims that a Boxster S PDK can go around the Nordschleife in 7.58 min... and we know they are pretty reliable with these times.![]()
Verdict
Nothing I have said here is going to convince a 911 owner to move into a Boxster, I guess. The 911 has the extra power and that counts far more in the US than it does one the tighter roads of Europe.
Yet no roadster fan should lightly dismiss the small mid-engined Porsche. It is an absolute delight, great to drive, supremely well balanced and now jaw-droopingly good looking. Funny steering or not, Porsche still rules the roost with the Boxster.

Porsche just unveiled the 2013 Boxster at the Geneva Motor Show, but a leaked image from a press conference is indicating the Boxster S has lapped the Nürburgring in just 7 minutes and 58 seconds.
While these times should always been taken with a grain of salt, the results are better than laps posted by the Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac CTS-V. More importantly, the time is 12 seconds faster than the previous Boxster S.
To refresh, the model has a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine with 315 PS (232 kW / 311 hp) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the roadster to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 279 km/h (173 mpg) when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission.

Little wonder that after options the total cost of our test car was nearly £60,000. Now who was it who said that the Boxster is a poor man’s Porsche?
