Z Series [Official] BMW Z4 (G29)

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

BMW Z4 sDrive20i Sport 2019 review | Autocar

This entry-level roadster charms as an all-rounder, but is it the dynamic showcase BMW says it is?
the entry-level Z4 makes a convincing case for itself, because it's more pleasing to drive at any speed than the TT and a more accomplished, quieter cruiser than the 718 Boxster.

I'm amazed at how good it looks, I'll put my hands on soon soon

According to what you see, read and perceive in the tests, the Z4 meets and exceeds enough to penetrate with a lot of force in the segment that once helped to create.
The guy in the video is visibly excited to the point that his emotion is contagious, I've already seen several who are delighted when they see the Z4 in person for his design and even more when they drive it.

autoexpress.co.uk / Z4 Review
QUOTE/ The cheapest new Z4 is well-equipped, pretty good looking and a fair bit more practical than its predecessor. More important than that, however, it is now genuinely engaging to drive - even with a lowly 2.0-liter engine in its nose. It's no wonder this model is expected to be the biggest seller, then, accounting for at least 60 per cent of new Z4 sales.

The Z4 is the hottest convertible of the year

The BMW Z4 M40i combines old virtues with the technology of today. Above all, he has a big heart. How To Cars has tested the Roadster.

Performance and dynamics are convincing

Again, they have expelled the profanity of its predecessor. Where once cheap hard plastic shone greasy in the sun, now glitter cool metal and two large 10.25-inch screens to the bet. Tidy, high-quality processed and built around the driver. The standard leather seats fit like a second skin, between butt and asphalt feels like nothing more than a hand. The fact that the Z4 is also up to date in terms of connectivity is, for once, a little less important than the start button. The sits now next to the selector lever and is the most important thing on the Z4 M40i ... As befits a real BMW, sits on the Z4, the nucleus of all passion under the hood. In the top model M40i is the internally B58 called six-cylinder turbo, which we also know from the 540i.

If you switch to Sport Plus, pull the selector lever to "S", deactivate the traction control and put both feet firmly on both pedals, you can feel it perfectly. The launch control settles cleanly on 2000 tours, in order to catapult the load gently and without squeaking, always along the Haftgrenze, forward. The factory promised 4.5 seconds for the sprint to 100 masters the test car as casual as he conceded even after 16.5 seconds, the 200 mark.

I like the basic version, it really looks very good, the front of this is more similar to the concept, as it happens with the basic versions of the 8 series with its concept

Good review from Steve Stutters. The particular test car he has in the video is probably the spec that I would take, it did look very tasty in that colour and interior combo. The new Z4 is growing on me and I do like it very much. The front is not it's best feature but overall it's a good looking car with probably the best interior in this segment. It has one huge advantage over the 718 Boxster and that is its fantastic inline 6, the sound and music it makes is just so intoxicating.

Suttcliffe you mean
I like his reviews a lot. And he is extremely positive in this one. And because of this we are seeing him making comparisons to the boxster all the time and to no other roadster.
For people not driving on a track regularly the Z4 seems to be the better overall package:
More comfy
More practicable
Cheaper
Much much better engine than the crappy 4 pot in 718

Looks wise I have to admit, that I'm still not sold on the Z4. Boxster in the right spec is more appealing to me. (But I would prefer cayman/coupe anyhow)

I feel, that if there are cases, where people are thinking between Z4 and Boxster, it is 95% because of the engine, when they decide for Z4. It is such a shame, that Porsche ruined the 718 with this engine!

Can't that be said for every car from a Golf GTI and M540i to a SQ5 and Bentley Continental GT?

I think BMW have missed the market with the new Z4 and 8-Series. Both look fantastic inside and out but almost ever review sings the same chorus "It's a GT". BMW should have offered a "Cup chassis" option that stiffens the suspension and anti-roll bars and transform them into sports car.

It's surprising that the G20 3-Series, an everyday car, gets firm sporty suspension but more expensive and emotive two seats ride like a GrandTourer regardless of whether they are M-Sport or have adaptive dampers.

PS: The 4 cylinder in the 718 is sacrilege.

I can not believe that BMW lodges in paradisiacal places, feed them and even the tickets maybe pay them (of this last I'm not sure) to people like these two......

A roadster to go on a picnic? the trunk is not very big? they say a lot of obvious things, with what will they compare it in their little minds, with an SUV? seeing this is a waste of time

Isn't it a bit unfair? I mean: The Z4M40i is super sporty. It did the same laptime as a M2 on Nürgurgring.
For 99,5% of buyers, this is already too fast ;)
Yes, Sutcliffe is critisising, that there is slight body roll, which could be disturbing, when you are in full attack mode.
On the other hand this surely means, that drive is slightly more compliant than in a Boxster?
And since when has a non full M model been compared with a Porsche? If you really want a more track oriented chassis, with everything stiffer ... then you have to wait for the Z4M.

Spot on at the end of the day it’s still just an M performance model and not a true M car expecting it to drive as well as the Boxter which from the ground up was conceived as a sports car is expecting too much. It now drives better than the car it replaces with a stellar engine and one of the nicest roadsters to drive.

A slightly stiffer suspension option would ha e been cheaper than waiting for an Z4M or a Ferrari Portofino priced M8.

The benefit of sportier suspensionand steering is that they will make the car more visceral even at low speeds and put a huge grin on your face. Sure its as capable around the ring as the M2 but probably offers less smiles-per-gallon.

I liked the BMW i8 as it was super smooth and easy to drive for hours but even that one lacked the sparkle of a truly engaging sports car.

Sorry if this seems to be a rant but it's a shame that BMW aren't committed to making an ultimate two seater drivers car.

Comfort is important but there are countless of cars on the market and within BMW if you want a sporty but comfortable car.

Sure, but there is no need to downplay the 8er and Z4 because of that. Those are different cars. They din't miss any mark with those two fantastic cars. They are top of the line.

Agreed, if only the Z4 didn't have such a contentious face...
