So, it's another day and another episode in the BMW Heresies story.
Episode III - The uncompromising Motorsport Division, compromised.
Why, did we ever - credit crunch, fuel crisis lnotwithstanding - need an M badge to be tacked on to the back of an SUV? Isn't an X6 xDrive50i all the sports activity coupe any rational BMW buyer would want? I want to know, at what point is an X6 xDrive50i not enough?
I'm really curious about the demographic and profile of this buyer.
Allow me to answer this, whether it sounds rational or not...
I more than welcomed the possibility of BMW creating a M badged 4 door that looked like a coupe but somehow, would stand on 4 wheels.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the unveiling of the X6 concept almost two years ago.
My sole justification was simple then, and it still stands: I always wanted an M3. Never an M5, not an M6.
The M3.
But life is tricky, and
you cannot put everything or your heart on halt just to get to your desired rainbow.
So, after marriage and children, I let the dream of owning an M3 die. Maybe one day, I would own one. But realistically, I knew deep in my heart that would not be the case. In my mind, driving one included me being a certain age.
Do you follow?
With the X6, I can say I can get away with being a mom
and getting what I always wanted.
X6? Great.
X6 M?? My prayers were answered.
Therefore, I am not and surely will not be ashamed to say that I would buy such a vehicle for the M badge. I don't buy counterfeits and I start now by trying to stick M badges all over a vehicle. I trust BMW enough that they will make sure the vechicle does its best to fall in line with their ever evolving M philosophy.
Kudos to everyone else who can own an M3 with ease for whatever reasons.
But from where I stand, where.I.stand,
it makes sense to and for me.
My story/reasoning/rationalization is only one justification. I can't speak for others who want the X6M.
