X5 [Official] BMW X5 (F15)

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
Every time I look I like more, saw those pictures of F15 in white in bimmerpost? and the video? beautiful!!

That profile is just so unlike BMW. The air vent looks especially tacky on this thing, and I'm really not liking the chunkiness of the front end. Rearlights are superb, as is every BMW's right now, but somehow the rear just doesn't work cohesively. Interior is a big step up, but the exterior is just such a disappointment. Profile looking a lot like the X3, which is a bad, bad thing.

I hate how the possibility of a X7 meant that the X5 was designed to be more 'commercial'. That's just utter BS. I cannot believe BMW did this to the X5.

I read the translation of above as "average looking", nothing special here. I liked when E70 came but this is too plain.

The photoshoot is very poorly done. Cost cutting or something. Sparkling brown is not a good color choice for the photo shoot.
The X4 concept is nice. I guess BMW decided to reserve nice looks and sexiness for X4/X6/X7.

They went more in the direction of the X1 instead of the X3 if you ask me. The worst part is when you look from the profile view from the front of the rear wheel arch back. It looks totally out of proportion...

Is the new model sensibly heavier than the outgoing one ?

It's marginally lighter (50i -15kg, 30d -5kg, ), while M50d is even a bit heavier than the outgoing model (+40kg). Those are absolute figures. Relative figures are even better for F15 since the car has more standard equipment than E70, and it's a bit bigger than E70. But it's not a lightweight miracle. Still the performance figures are amazing. Which means the enegines & the transmission are doing excellent job - moving all the huge mass. I hope the chassis (with all the electronic help) & especially the steering will cope with such a mass at least as well. The chassis features (rear air-suspension, Dynamic Performance Control, Dynamic Damper Control) can be offered optionally, while Driving Mode Control is standard. Steering is electro-mechanic(!), Active Steering is optional. So, packed with all the drive enhancement features the F15 surely drives & performs well.

I love it!!! Interior is state-of-the art. Two questions:
1) will be multi-functional instrument panel an option?
2) what's about new engine for 35i?

Lame-ass evolution.

BMW AG you've got to be kidding me at you being serious about SAV's - going forward LMAO. This being the same car I have been driving for nearly five years (looks wise) - WHERE you drive the car i.e behind the wheel and outside, nose is alright rest is as with the cabin YAWN...

You bring a poorly managed facelift to market whilst RR-Sport's, Ml's & GL's and Cayenne's look as they do today!?

And folks: Cayenne Diesel-entry level model is yours from Porsche Center SA- JHB, for lesser than any BMW dealer can even do on a Premium Select X5 of the same specification, just the X5 was used by dealer staff for a month or two.

Sorry Munich, no Cigar. (n)

All criticism aside; what new technology is introduced in F15 X5, as in first time in a BMW?

You could put the 6GC behind the hands of a 5-year old and it would still look majestic.

Undeniable sense of general disappointment about this vehicle, but I think it reflects the maturity of the X5, and BMW fast becoming a global mass producer, no longer a niche German player.

The new X5 disappoints because it's bland, and no longer typically German premium.

The X5 is now an American market product. The European SUV/offroader market has moved down to X3/X1 level, with products like the Opel Mokka and even BMW's own MINI Countryman setting the tone.

The America-aimed X5 is under attack from cheaper products like the Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee. SUVs are now bought more for interior space, high-driving position, and perceived safety for mothers and children occupants, than for off-roading ability. In America they are the descendants of the station wagons of the 70s and people carriers like the Chrysler Voyager of the 80s.

So BMW has shifted the focus of the 3rd Gen X5 to more space, 7-seat option, fuel economy akin to mid-size sedans, and a 2WD option to acknowledge that most of these vehicles never go off the highway.

As a result of the re-focusing, to bring down the entry price, give it more interior space, family sedan-like fuel economy, explicitly acknowledge that cars like these are increasingly people carriers rather than soft-roaders, by offering a 2WD option, enthusiasts like us baulk at the result. The effect is akin to the American Passat replacing the more expensive, European Passat.

It will not be liked by us and many others will say it's a backward step, but it will help BMW to maintain and increase the around 100k annual sales, by fending off the threat of the Explorer, Grand Cherokee and the like, while allowing BMW to move the next X6, possible range-topping X7 into a more exclusive niche, like they will do with the X4 to the mass-market X3.

BMW is planning for the long term. Products like the new R/R Sport may initially catch the eye of enthusiasts, but by providing lower entry prices, more room, more safety and convenience features, and near 2WD sedan like fuel economy levels, real potential buyers, unlike bewailing enthusiasts, will be won over.

The front looks okay and typical beemer. The sideview reminds me too much of X3. The interior is slightly disappointing in terms of change which I would like to see with the introduction of a new model. Also a higher perception of quality with more luxuriuos materials would have been nice. See for instance the material of the airvents.
I think it'll do good in the goalmarkets.
