X3/X4 [Official] BMW X3 (G01)

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. Now in its fourth generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling. BMW has indicated 2025 will be the X4's final model year.
Poor M division, forced to play with turds like this rather than polishing a light weight sports car.
"Stiifen the chassis, bigger brakes, more engine, tune throttle, suspension upgrade...missing anything?"
Only consolation is the volume makes for nice Christmas bonuses.

It's going to be the closest thing in its segment to give the Macan a run for its money when it comes being a mid-sized athlete.

Yeah, it's a real shame that M division has been reduced to these things from what they used to be....

... oh ... wait a sec...

FWIW, I'd like a proper light-weight sportscar from M too... but let's not kid ourselves that things are any different now to how they have always been.

"3D taillights" ... geez, it's just a sculptured PLASTIC. It's not new idea at all, and it's not hard to made. It's just a current styling trend. It's not like a super hi-tech.

Sculptured taillights made of glass the old cars once featured were far more tricky to made than the plastic ones today. So, a sculptured "3D" plastic object (incl. taillight cluster) is hardly a news worth "sensation"!

Yes, but cars that feature them are [Jeremy Clarkson voice] sporty and luxurious.... [/Jeremy Clarkson voice]

^You're basically right @Enl. However, purpose and extent of surface treatment in light units have changed a lot in the last couple of years. Development on that front pretty much went hand in hand with advances in surface treatment (and sculpturing) in general, one might say. In the good old days, that was obviously not the case ... due to lacks in feasibility, (aerodynamics etc.) knowledge, fashion, and so on.

Well, you don't get to decide what is news worthy or not.
Flame surfacing is also just a piece of sculpted platic, but I never heard you talk like this about that..

I don't think he is right at all. The sculpted 3D design in combination with matching LED tech is very new indeed (< 5 years max) and was not done before.

When I hear "3D" tail-lights today (I actually start hearing about 3D taillights recently because of "marketing"), I tend to think of the effect created by LED lighting rather than the ribbing/sculpting.

for example

BMW are "doing an Apple" by sensationalising a feature that's not s big deal, like when Apple launched an iPod with a shuffle feature that was basically just 'randomising' which had been around on CD players since the 80s.

Im putting my money on the 3D tail lights being a "world premier" standard feature on the G01 LCI.

Either way. Every manufacturer charge silly money for something. For example on the XC60, hill hold is optional while it's a given on automatic BMWs.

Yes those Champagne fueled beach buggy races in Alcapulco do not come cheap.

MB applier 3D rear lights in the late 60s for safety reasons. Even if the car got really dirty the ribbed lights could still be seen, because the concave part was still clean

Few things are more frustrating than people changing what you've said, and then arguing with the new statement that they have attributed to you.
No where do I state or imply that the M-division has been 'reduced' from an imagined former state of glory. I state that they are 'forced' to waste their talents.
If you have an independent statement to make, then do so. There is no need to involve me. Good day.

Of all people, I am sure Matski did not intend to change your words and slight you in any way. If anything I read that he was trying to agree with you. That said, cheers, and have a better day.

Aluminium switchgear with the HVAC,entertainment and Window lifts taken straight from the 7er. You can even specify the Ambient Air fragrance dispenser. Very handy if you want to get rid of the smell of passing cow shit!:D

They aced the interior. WOW! It's best in class and strike the perfect balance between curves and masculinity.

BTW, what struck me as unusual: the G01 and G11 (X3 and 7er) both have the metal color coated buttons for the HVAC and radio, while the G30 (5er) has black buttons. I wonder what the reason is behind that, because the 5er is supposed to be further up the chain compared to the X3.

fake edit; I just found out the X3 actually comes with both black and metal buttons, must be a line thing in the end.
But I don't remember seeing the 5er with metal buttons on any line.

The aluminium buttons are an option, so I imagine the G30 will soon get that option too.
