X3/X4 [Official] BMW X3 (G01)

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3.

Off topic, but here's some pics of the 3D rearlights of the new A5 (sportback):

Lol 3D lights have been part of Mercedes models since the 60's and 70's.

R107 from 1971 as example.

Really dissapointed to find out that the air breathers on the X3 are cosmetic rather than functional, if I'm not mistaken these are the first cosmetic air breathers on any BMW that has them ....BMW DNA ---->> Kidney grills, quad lights , hof kink , L shaped taillights .... Now air breathers on every other future BMW.

Haha this thread is becoming a BMW circle jerk. Almost as bad as an S-class thread. :ROFLMAO:

The pictures on the previous page show both the GLC and X3 nail the respective design briefs and are absolutely in keeping which each makes current design idiom IMO. You may have a preference for one, but that does not mean the other is inferior in this case.

The BMW could have had less doughy headlights, and why they chose this design after the travesty of the pre-facelift 1-series, who know. And MB should have differentiated the GLC interior more. They were just being cheap, no two ways about it. But this doesn't change the fact both are great looking vehicles overall. Throw the Q5 into the mix and we the consumer are clearly the winners here.

After watching that Auotgefuhl video posted, I'm 70% sure I'd pick the X3. Grey M-sport with the tobacco brown interior and 21 inch individual wheels please.

Also the 4 series LCI has cosmetic air breather... it's weird... 5 series and 7 series has functional air breathers?

It looks great in this video, a mini X5 for sure

I hate when PAID journalist make stupid remarks such as the interior being the same as the old one. No, the interior while similar to newer BMWs, is nothing like the old one.

The X3M40i really looks great in that autogefuhl video. Far far nicer than any of the press photos. The 3 dimensionality of the bumpers, grill and body creases really show through and the front end actually looks very attractive.

Agreed. Looks much much better in the video than the pics.

Although the design is different, if you ignore the aluminum garnish the HVAC controls, shortcut buttons and iDrive controls are in the same location. This applies to most BMWs and it's not necessarily a negative. You can jump from and F01 to a G11, F30, F70 and then into a i8 without facing a learning curve for how to operate the car controls or infotainment.

Think of it as iPhone. The iPhone 5 looks different from the 7 but the functionality and controls of both is the same. The evolution is cautionary and focused on improving what works rather than introducing big changes.

An interesting point is that BMW, unlike other manufacturers are sticking with head up displays and not using the dashboard as a digital cockpit.

Agreed Luw. I get that it's familiar, and the reason why BMW does it, but it's not the SAME. That's just sloppy reporting from a professional automotive journalist.

The new interior is such a huge improvement over the old one, despite the layout similarities, it undermines BMW's massive efforts in this department.

There's a few X340iM Vs SQ5 videos on youtube and dare I say the Audi interior looks a bit dated in its lines and downmarket compared to the top of the range X3. It lacks the beautiful detailing of the BMW's switchgear, ambient lighting and dashboard and door panel stitching. There is also a distinct lack of trim in the Audi compared to the BMW. It just looks less upmarket. Less fluent. The S line seats are also all too familiar and look less special than the BMW's.

I can't wait to prod the lower half of the X3 dash and glove box lid. Please please please be rubberised or soft touch plastic.

SCOTT27, ^is that the preview of how X3M may look, e.g. hood character lines, front facia? Based on the X3M spyshots we have seen so far, it does not seem to incorporate the flare fender as how F80 to F30.
