X3/X4 [Official] BMW X3 (G01)

The BMW X3 is an SUV manufactured by BMW since 2003, based on the BMW 3 Series platform. Now in its fourth generation, BMW markets the car as a Sports Activity Vehicle, the company's proprietary descriptor for its X-line luxury vehicles. The BMW X4 is a compact luxury crossover SUV manufactured by BMW since 2014. The X4 is widely considered as a "coupé" version of the X3, trading its practicality with a sloping rear roof which offers a sportier styling. BMW has indicated 2025 will be the X4's final model year.
Is there a full press release that I am missing?

Do we have external dimensions? Boot dimensions and volume? Is the rear seat adjustable like the Q5?

Yes, however the press release was being delivered on the Madrid Maersk, which broke in half under the weight, and sank... so I've attached two of them as PDFs from BMW's press site.

To answer your questions as specifically as possible...

With regards to the boot

To further improve comfort in the rear compartment, the angle of the standard 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrests can be adjusted individually and through various stages thanks to the optional cargo function. This feature also allows the backrests to be released remotely from the load compartment, which expands the standard load capacity of 550 litres to 1,600 litres.

The boot is the same as the outgoing X3, 550 litres. Unlike the Q5, the new X3 also retains a flat load lip. The bonus is that 40/20/40 folding rear seats are standard and they can be reclined individually. However they don't slide forward or backwards.

What more had BMW done to the G30 5er to lose more than 100 kg compared to F10 with the switch to the CLAR platform, when X3 lost only 40 kg. Both of them doesnt have carbon core

I can't wait to go shopping for this car with my wife. Mind made up. It's perfect for my little family. Will we wait for the next-gen 2.0 turbodiesels though?

I will be buying either this, X4, Q5 or Macan for the missus. Can't wait to go shopping. The last piece in the puzzle will be the X4 press details. I have almost written the Macan off based on price.

I get you don't like the GLC interior, but on what basis have you written off the Q5 if you don't mind me asking? Interested to know.

And it's going to be a local product for you! Mind G01 will also be manufactured in Rosslyn plant. (y)

Next gen 2.0 diesel? o_O

B47 engine is only 3 years old (debuted in 2014), and is a part of BMW's modular engine family. We shall assume there will be some updates for the premiere in G20 320d but no new gen for the time being. There are also very loud rumors about diesel-mild hybrid BMW products. Not sure if in combination with B47 though.
So, yes ... it's reasonable to say MY 2020 X3 2.0d (available in early fall / late summer 2019 - depends on market) will already be available with updated B47 engine. But are you ready to wait 2 more years?

Macan is delightful to drive - especially the thirsty petrol variants - but this isn't enough to justify the considerable price premium down here. Probably the same price differential ratio in Oz.
X3 in RHD is slated to be produced here in Rosslyn which - judging by my two F30s - is no bad thing whatsoever. So, I'm hoping this will bode well for more competitive pricing / deals over here.

Yes - I know, you were just too quick off the mark for me. ;)

Eni, I heard rumours of the new, bi-turbo diesel four cylinder engines about a year ago. This led me to thinking that the B47 (still a fabulous little diesel engine) would have a shorter lifecycle. If, indeed, there is a new-generation turbodiesel on the cards for, say, 2019 - then yes, I will wait. Our current SUV is only 4 months old.

Treat yourself and go for the 3.0d.

YOLO
Would love one - but as SUVs go, I feel that the 2.0d engine is the sweet spot for practicality sake. I don't need to win a traffic light drag race with my leisure vehicle. It's much more about usable, un-stressed acceleration combined with good cruising capability and frugality. With our big distances this makes more sense.

Do I want a 530d? Hell yeah!

Now that LED head lights are standards, they need something new to charge for. "3D" tail lights are basically sculptured tail lights. They are trivial and you can find them on the new Q5 and several Skoda models.

It's true LED tail lights are standard on the Q5. But in many other cases of German cars, you need to pay for them: Mercedes A, B, Audi A2, A3, A4 (the new one!), etc. Just to name those that I see with halogens on a regular basis.

Aren't they standard on the X3?
Either way, I am more interested whether or not the Q5 comes standard with the 3D effect. Or do they, like the X3, have a standard unit too?

Yes "3D" tail lights are standard on the Q5 and the sculpturing is gorgeous up close.

Yes, it's gorgeous indeed. There's no going back anymore. This is the next step.

It's only up close you notice them. I didn't even know the tail lights on my Fabia were sculptured until 8 weeks later when I decided to stroke the entire rear.
