X2 [Official] BMW X2 (F39)

The BMW X2 is a subcompact luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW since 2017. It is marketed as a sports activity coupé (SAC), it is considered a sportier and less practical alternative to the X1, as is the case with other even-numbered X models with its respective counterparts.

I've always liked the X2, now even more so.

M35i is certainly the least offensive looking X2 so far... still not a design I'm finding easy to like though.

I'm glad the M35i models are finally arriving, I'm keen to see if they do an F52 M135i.

If the M35i has a firmer suspension than the already stiff X2, then the ride will be ruthlessly bone shaking. It's definitely not a car to order from press photos but wait until you've done a long test drive.

Rented the X2 during my trip to Italy/France for 11 days, got the chance to test the car overall.

I will summarize my experience, my first impression is that the car looks very good, inside also fit and finish is well executed, the idrive is fast and easy to use, large areas are covered by plastic but at this class it should be okay, back leg room is good, head room in the back is very little.

The most notable thing I didn’t like is the loud tires noise, the second thing was the driving experience, although I drove the car on highways and inside the city for 11 days but I couldnt bare the steering wheel respond neither the brakes.

Overall, the car is very nice and probably the best in its class, however the driving experience ruined my rating to this car.

One note is the pre collision system, i felt its kind of useless as it did not alert me on many ocassions, the only alert I received was in an unenescery situation, the system on my E class is much better, and I hope BMW have a better system for the upper classes cars (5er,7er,X5 etc.)

Runflats sucks. Last month I had a X1 loaner with 17 inch alloys on Bridgestone Turanzas. The low speed refinement and tyre noise was remarkably improved compared with the X1 I drove two years ago that had runflats.

My X3 is due new front tyres before the end of the year. I cannot wait to ditch my Pirelli PZero for non-runflat Pirelli Rosso Asymmetric

I totally agree with you, but again it was noticeably very high, I had run on flats on my E and they were noisy but not at X2 level.

The other reason is mostly because it was equiped with 19” wheels.

High tyre noise is a reoccurring complaint in X2 reviews. Could be due to poor sound insulation in the wheel arches.

The X1 for example emits suspension noise when going over big potholes - something not experienced in the X3.

Yes there is tyre noise in my fathers car as well, it got 20" wheels and runflats. He is getting 18" wheels, non runflats for the winter. Should make a difference.
But the car looks great, much more than those weird looking X4/X6's.

Might be worth getting all-year ones as he might end up preferring them to the 20 inch summer alloys/tyre combo.
I dont know about all year tyres. Can't be as good as summertyre and/or wintertyre. There must be a compromise with all-years tyres.

Damn this even has the double sunroof. This is the best looking small SAV from any manufacturer out there IMO.

Not a bad review. The 1 series will drive pretty well if this X2 is anything to go by.

X2 does not stands for family & practicality - you can get X1 for that. And then you have proper XC40 and Q3 rival: more space, more comfort, more practical, more family oriented. Same case with X3 vs X4, X5 vs X6 etc. Can't all the bloggers, vloggers , influencers, car journalists etc get that already?

It depends on the choice of drivetrain and who you are.

When I had an X1 sDrive20i as a loaner last month, I hugely surprised by how different it drove compared with my F25 X3 xDrive. Powering out of the corner the X3 can tail out a bit if there's a loss in grip. When it does, the progression is natural and the car invites you to test the limits. The steering and surface feedback while exiting a tight corner in the sDrive feels very.......well.......front wheel drive and unlike a BMW.

BMWs are inherently rear wheel drive. Even the xDrive 1-Series might not be good enough for enthusiasts as the balance of the car will be completely different from a RWD 1-Series.

X1 is the practical and nicer riding alternative but the X2 is the sportier and nicer looking alternative. You sacrifice comfort for style. They comparing the X2 to the other cars because it’s newer. I don’t really think the X2 has a direct competitor as yet.
