X1 Official BMW X1 Thread

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.
I'm thinking same face, bigger body for the X3.

Eventually - not a BS! - X3 look will be a nice transition from X1 to X5. Featuring elements of both, while also featuring some typical X3 features like special C-pillar kink, flat(er) hood, more angular front appearence. Etc.

It's definitely MUCH nicer design than current E83 one.

It will be much more serious competitor (look-wise as well) to Q5 & GLK.

no :)
i can tell that its a lot more compact then the photos give away
also the lower hight(compared to the X3) is not noticeable, but really helps the cars proportions.

In terms of dimensions (just from what you saw), what other compact SUVs/4WDs is it most similar to? The current Rav4, the previous Rav4, current Forester, current X3 ?

:t-cheers:

Will the X1 get other I6 engines later on in addition to the xDrive28i?

If it truly is that compact then got damn have you guys got the proportions right. :usa7uh:

What do you mean with 'truly'?? You can see the exterior designer standing right next to the real production car. There are no more 'ifs', these are the proportions.....and boy, are they stunning or what??? :icondrool A low compact SUV. Brilliant. I have never before seen anything like it!

Which engine 23d or 28i?

In Australia we will likely get to choice between 23d and 28i.

BMW have flagged the 28i as the 'performance' X1 model ...and the 0-100km/hr time of 6.8 demonstrates that ..(compared to 7.3 for 23d)

but I'm just wondering ..in real world conditions, if the extra torque of the 23d (400NM vs 310NM) will make it a better proposition ?? any thoughts? esp since the diesel in this thing has twin turbo (zero(ish) lag) and all alloy (light) ... any opinions?

I'd like to order off the books as they take 4 months to get here ... so any thoughts welcome ..

The 28i will be more expensive, both in terms of buying the car as in terms of fuel-consumption. But I would have more fun with it. It has straight-six petrol-engine with ~3000ccm, so it won't be slow - and it will sound great! Of course, the 23d will have more low-end-torque, but it sounds like a Diesel (because it is one). If the money wouldn't matter it would be clear for me to chose the 28i. If the money is important you will go better with the 23d because you will get completely sufficient acceleration for a lot less money. Tough decision I guess ;-)

The engine offered in the X1 xDrive2.8i will be the top line engine for the X1. BMW want to seperate the X1 from the X3 now by showcasing that the entry X vehicle is the X1.
The next BMW X3 will feature the Turbo charged six cylinder petrol and diesel powerplants.

Stay tuned for more features on the BMW X1 including featurettes on design . interior etc on the run up to the IAA on BMW TV.de and BMW web TV.

So now the naming "XDriveEtc." is standard?
