X1 [Official] BMW X1 (F48)

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.

Will be introduced soon as well as the X1 iPerformance.
This is Zinoro.

This is the X1 - Zinoro has different front and rear lights and different rear window shape. This X1 matches the semi-disguised pictures before.

I am in the market for a new car, an SUV to be precise, and test drove an automatic X1 xDrive20d xline this weekend.

Despite my preconceived notions about it being a cheap car, it made a big impression on me. It's brilliantly fun to drive. The steering is very direct and the suspension firm. Pushing it through roundabouts and twisty corners understeer is not evident. It feels smaller than it is, like a larger 1 series.

Its best trick though is the interior space. The boot is big and the space under the boot floor is massive. Most impressively the rear bench slides forward and the rear seats can be reclined or in an upright position which is very Maybach-esque.

As a family SUV it beats the X3 and X5 on usability and flexibility of space.

However my other half can't stand the look of the shifter and the center console feels a bit cheaper. More importantly the X5 offers better visibility and a more relaxing drive. We will test drive the X3 on Wednesday.

May I ask, does the car have to be a SUV? Is the 3 series Touring too small for your requirement?

Nope. It behaves like a 3 series sedan and is very easy to drive with confidence. During the test drive I occasionally had to remind myself that it's an SUV. It doesn't feel meaty or heavy like the X5.

I am expecting a baby in June and the X1 sitting a bit higher than a 3er Touring makes it easier to load a baby. The doors are big and flexibility of the boot makes it more practical for loading a pram, luggage and other bits.

There are no doubts in my mind that the next 1 series will be FWD. After my experience with the X1 I am less sceptical about FWD as it will be fun enough for most. However the car I drove was AWD which and has torque vectoring which is a big distinction.

Congrats mate! , seems like everyone I know is having a baby, even those on a car forum. Maybe I should have a look at the X1.

Thanks! It's easy to overlook the X1 because it's an entry level model but I told myself to be objective and give it a try. I was delighted but as I said I might go for the X3 for a more cushioned ride, slightly higher sitting position and better interior interior design.

I also test drove the Mercedes GLC and found it to be a fantastic car with no shortcomings. The powertrain 220 CDI and 9-speed gearbox is better than what BMW offers, but I didn't fall it love with it. There was magic missing. I'm happy to get the same level of equipment I have in the 3er but in a larger BMW.

Congrats on the baby, Luw!

3er time has been short, huh?

Thanks! Yes, disappointingly time. When we bought it, we thought it would be good for family stork and donkey duties.

Judgement day came when we drove went to a store to test whether the buggy we wanted, Stokke Xplory, fits in the boot.

It didn't fit longitudinally but just about did so transversely with little space for much else unless you are master at Tetris.

My 1998 Celica which was a hatchback hauled anything I threw at it and never failed me once. The 3er on the other hand, had a big boot lip and quite a recline of the rear bench which eats into the length of the boot.

Yea, the same counts for my sister. She now has three kids and it's impossible to keep driving a BMW. Simply not enough space for kids chairs, buggys and whatever else.

We bought a Seat Alhambra last week. Oceans of space, and 7 seats.
Also, 3er or 5er doesn't really matter, a 5er has equally little space. Can't put three child seats in the back row of a 5er either. A shame because I wanted to get her a 5er Touring instead of the Seat. Oh well.

I am sure Scott will try to sell you one of those 2 series van. Actually why didn't anyone consider those

2016 BMW X1 Earns "Top Safety Pick+" from IIHS

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – May 26, 2016 … The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety today named the 2016 BMW X1 a “Top Safety Pick+”, the Institute’s highest rating, continuing the company’s long-standing commitment to offering class-leading safety with each new model. In order to earn “Top Safety Pick+”, a car must receive a rating of “good”, the Institute’s highest rating, in all five crashworthiness tests and an available front crash prevention system that earns an advanced or superior rating.

Like its predecessor, the all-new 2016 BMW X1 earns good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The BMW X1’s new body and structure design boosted its performance in the small overlap front crash test, earning a “good” rating. Overall, the new BMW X1 gained an additional 1.7 inches in height, 0.9 inches in width and decreased by 1.1 inches in length.

The BMW X1’s newly available front crash prevention system earns an advanced rating from IIHS. In the track tests at 12 mph, impact speed was reduced by an average of 10 mph. In the 25 mph test, impact speed was reduced by 7 mph. The system includes a forward collision warning component that meets National Highways Traffic Safety Administration criteria.

The 2016 BMW X1 also features a high-level of standard safety features including BMW Assist eCall, BMW TeleService, Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Dry Assist, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control. Optional features such as Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning including Pedestrian Warning and City Collision Mitigation are also available.

My father is getting his X1 in August. M-package, automatic gearbox, LED-lights, Xdrive etc etc. Loaded with lots of stuff that I dont have the time to write here. He was thinking about X3 but he decided to replace his old X1 with the new generation.

I'm a little surprised he went with M-package. He usually dont like it.

Did he mind it was FWD based compared to his predecessor?

Congratulations on the baby Luw! I wish you a happy and healthy child.

Our 3 has now become the wifes daily driver, and it's doing quite well. The pram we chose, City Jogger, fits in quite easily with plenty of room for the shopping. We took it for a weekend away last week and it swallowed everything we needed. And god knows you need a lot of stuff for one small baby! The only problem is that the capsule forces the front passengers seat a bit too far forward. But that will only be a problem for about 6 more months.
