X1 [Official] BMW X1 (F48)

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.
@SCOTT27 What's the word on the rumored X1 with a third row? When do we expect to see that? It's going to look even more like a minivan, but I hope it at least keeps the straight line on the door, just below the wing mirrors. That upwards kink is always disconcerting.

That's the new Zinoro crossover (Zinoro = Chinese-market-only brand by BMW Brilliance). (y)

The first off-roader based on the UKL front-wheel drive architecture secures five stars in the Euro NCAP safety test. In both the frontal and side crash, the 2015 BMW F48 X1 shows that it could protect well its occupants well before injury, while the classic side impact and the more demanding side pole crash reached the maximum score.

In the case of a rear-end impact, the head restraints of the front row protect very well against injury in the neck area.

For the protection of children aged 1.5 to 3 years, the BMW F48 X1 gets full marks for front and side impacts. The standard emergency brake assist also impressed the Euro NCAP testers. The safety of adult occupants was rated at 90 percent, while the traveling children also receives very good 87 percent.

For an optimum pedestrian protection, the BMW X1 F48 has an active bonnet that is raised a few centimeters in the event of a collision with a pedestrian, thus preventing a head impact with the engine block. The pedestrian protection is evaluated at 74 percent.

For assistance systems on board, the BMW X1 received an appreciation of 77 percent. The collision warning demonstrated a good overall performance, but it requires – in many situations – an after intervention by the driver.

New 2015 BMW F48 X1 gets 5 star in Euro NCAP

Went to a dealer yesterday to ask when I could expect the hybrid version of the X1....second half of 2017 where his words...true or not don't have a clue

I would like to know if this X1 L will be as big as an X3. Sometimes i think having a longer wheelbase model like this is a waste when you can just buy an X3.

This looks good for a SUV in 2016, but those RWD, sporty proportions of the original X1 will definitely be missed.

Chinese-Bound Seven-Seat BMW X1 Spied

BMW is preparing a longer, seven-seat version of the X1 for the Chinese market.
Just weeks ago, the first images of the future seven-seat BMW X1 were leaked through a patent filing in China, and recently, our collaborating photographers shot a few images of an X1 seven-seat prototype during testing. The prototype being tested features a lot of different design elements compared to the standard X1.

Put alongside the European BMW X1, the seven-seat variant destined for the Chinese market features a modified roofline, an entirely different front fascia and a modified rear end. Furthermore, the BMW X1’s headlights have a new design, while the taillights benefit from a different graphic.

The prototype in this article’s photo gallery probably features a modified version of the UKL platform of the BMW Group. This technical platform is used both by the MINI and the BMW brands and gave life to cars like the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer, 2-Series Gran Tourer, X1, MINI Cooper hatchback, and others.

Using the UKL platform would help BMW reduce development costs for the Chinese-only seven-seat X1 version. The design changes that the car has undergone don’t exclude the possibility of using the UKL technical platform.

The BMW X1 seems to be a popular choice for variations bound for the Chinese market, as other spy shots have shown. For example, an electric variant of the first generation BMW X1 was uncovered in Munich with a different design and wearing badges of the Zinoro brand, only sold in China.

BMW isn’t at its first Chinese-only model, the German company developing several cars for the world’s largest new car market. And its rival carmakers Audi and Mercedes-Benz do the same. Such strategies are applied to cater to the specific needs of Chinese consumers. For now, BMW officials have yet to reveal any information regarding this particular variant of the X1. This is usually the case with such prototypes.

Looks like a tiny Q7. Best to keep it in China indeed.
This is what it looks like. Inoffensive and quasi-European. Its less X1 with a different badge as per the first Zinoro.
There are plans for further models including a larger model based on the X3 G01.

So Scoot, in the meantime, when can we expect the 1/18 and 1/43 X1 F48 scale models?
The forthcoming Spielwarenmesse?;)

BMW continues testing its long-wheelbase version of the second-generation of the X1.

Initially, this version of the smallest SUV in the Munchen-based brand’s range was supposed to be made for the Chinese market, but some reports reveal the likelihood of offering this car on the European market as well.

Unlike the version meant for the Chinese market, the prototype in this article’s photo gallery does not feature different headlights or a modified roofline. Furthermore, this car is not even covered in too much camouflage, so there’s obviously something different about it.

A quick glance at the prototype reveals a set of longer rear doors, along with an extension of the car’s rear end. Along with more room for the passengers in the back seats, there’s a possibility for BMW to offer a seven-seat version of the X1. The idea of a seven-seat SUV is not new at all, but the eventual X1 version with this feature could cater to a new market of customers. After all, BMW has to maintain that sales crown somehow.

A seven-seat variant of the BMW X1 has been in the rumor mill for a while, but company officials rarely comment information about new model versions. Our spy photographers are not at their first spotting of an X1 with what appears to be a seven-seat configuration, so there’s something about this prototype that makes us think it is going to be shown in front of an audience shortly.

The previous encounter our spy photographers had with the X1 LWB seven-seater was last summer, when a prototype plug-in hybrid vehicle was spotted. We must note that BMW has already developed a seven-seat car on its UKL platform, the 2 Series Grand Tourer. Our mention of BMW’s first minivan comes in context with the fact that the 2 Series Grand Tourer shares its platform, FWD-based configuration, and engine range with the second-generation X1.

This car would be so much better if it meant that the 2er GT 7 seat Van was taken out of production again.
