M3/M4 [Official] BMW M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M
were BMW underrating their hp-claim, it's claimed to have 430/425hp and yet the two tests that soup scanned showed 449 and 465hp

there are two options here:
1. claims are less than what the engine actually produces (like the F40 which produced more power than stated)
2. tweaked presscar (produces more in order to gain a better press result)

I think it will be the same case as with the M5/M6. It's the trend in this turbo era.

Various dynotest has shown M5/M6 to have more power than bmw says. Also real owners who dynotest their cars have shown the same results. So tweaked presscars isn't true.
Personally I think the reasons for that is too lower the insurance costs. Fiesta ST actually have 200 hp but in the paper it says 182hp here in Europe, reason for that is to lower the insurance costs. BMW isn't the only ones to have more power than they claim. S8 and E63 are cars with more power than they claim according to dyno tests.

That BMW stands on grass, when I park my RS on the grass it completely sounds different than it would be on the road. Couldnt this be the case here?

I won't say it sounds bad, but it's missing the mechanical sound that M cars were known for. It would be like if AMG cars lost the rumble....which they haven't. So I don't know why BMW couldn't fine tune their engine/exhaust sound.

If you like to be seen , get a yellow car

Why don't you just wait until you hear it in real life and not through your crappy speakers?

The car makes an awesome sound, and it is very much mechanical imo. I ave heard it several times now, and I like it quite a bit. 99.9% of the 'haters' haven't heard the car themselves yet.

Reading comments from M4 owners they say the engine sounds bad when cold but sounds better when the car is warm. Also it sound better in real life. They think its loud and aggressive. Some say it sounds better than their M6.
Personally I'll judge when I hear them for real.

The fiesta has 200 with over boost for 15 seconds.

"The thing is that the Fiesta can run on overboost to 197bhp – which is why it’s marketed as having that much in the US. Over here, Ford isn’t allowed to advertise this ‘temporary’ output as the headline number (although if you find somewhere on the road to stay on full throttle for longer than the 15 seconds that it lasts, you’re luckier than us)."

I know about the overboost function. I own a ST :)

i believe every M engine sounds a lot worse when cold, remember people saying e60 M5 engine sounds like diesel when cold on idle

Bro for reals, you make good points...but when you put idiotic personal attacks in a message, it blows away anything meaningful you have to say. ;) Plus, nowhere did I say it sounds bad. You gotta learn to put aside your blind-fanboyism sometimes and actually read what's written.

And to tell you the truth, my sound system is quite high quality, all custom set up.

The F10 M5 sounds pretty good on a cold start. The F80 M3 cold start sounds bad, it's not a deal breaker for me because the F80 does many other things well.

And now for real real bro, it was a matter of speech. Meaning it could have been recorded by a freaking iPhone and a CRAPPY mic. Your high end audio system won't be able to make the sound anywhere near what it really sounds like. It has nothing whatsoever to do with a personal attack, I was merely pointing out how silly it is to listen to a YouTube vid or any other vid for that matter and make any conclusions about the sound. It doesn't work that way, YT sound is probably as poor as their video quality is...

And one more thing, you can dislike the sound of the car as much as you want, and you can be as vocal about that as you want too. But at least wait for some first hand experience. Sound is a taste, nobody is going to tell you whether it's good or bad.

But what if he has Bang & Olufsen speakers with graphene drivers and integrated thermodyne semiconductors?

Wouldn't make a damn difference if the recording is bad to begin with....the speakers are not going to magically change the sound.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
