3 Series (F30) [Official] BMW F30 3-Series LCI [2015-2019]

The sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series consists of the F30 (sedan version), F31 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring'), and F34 (fastback version, marketed as 'Gran Turismo') compact executive cars. A long-wheelbase sedan version (model code F35) was sold in China. For this generation, the coupé and convertible models were spun off to create the new BMW 4 Series nameplate. It was succeeded by the G20 3 Series, and the G26 4 Series Gran Coupé (F34). Production: October 2011 – October 2018
No one noticed the new, bigger iDrive controller?

If I am correct, they changed to the bigger I-drive controller as this larger one has a touch pad for writing letters and symbols.

The bigger iDrive controller (it's part of the Professional sat nav option) is a touchpad and has been on the 3 Series for several years. It just wasn't available in 2011 when the 3 Series (F30) was launched, and from whence that pre-LCI photo comes from.

It has nothing to do with the LCI.

Ah, thanks for the info, figured it didn't have to do with the LCI as surely it would've been mentioned before some added silver coloured trim here and there.

Also worth pointing out that every [new] BMW has the same basic iDrive unit and OS, from 114i to 760Li. The only big German brand that has the same unit in every car. Talk about efficiency.

Well it certainly ain't gonna be real silver. :eusa_danc

If you want real silver or even platinum (they done a 760Li recently with that finish and you have the money and credentials then you can have it for a price.

God,the F01... Just weeks from the end...I will miss that big bitch!

Rear lights look fantastic! Front-end really helped by new headlight graphics. Great facelift that adds a cherry on top of a vehicle that was already stellar before.

It just seems contradicting that there's a lack of tightness (low perception of solidity) in the dashboard and poor transmission tunnel plastics (low quality of materials) and yet the interior still managers to exude everything you say it doesn't. I was just truly interested in what pieces of the interior (read: examples) you found high quality and structurally solid.

I am referring specifically to two issues:
  • a lack of tightness in the trim pieces; these are surface components of the dashboard and do not constitute structural elements. Remember that "damning" video clip you posted with the finger-prodding, trim creaking illustration? That's exactly what I'm referring to. The same trim pieces behave in the same manner in my car. If, that is, if I go driving around with my finger on said pieces of trim. These trim pieces do not rattle in normal motoring scenarios on even poorly surfaced roads. Now, our roads have some peculiarities; our back roads are so coarsely worn down and our obsession with rumble strips is so acute that such high frequency imperfections most certainly elicit the "snap, crackle, pop" [my favourite term to describe German car interior NVH audibles] effect. Then again this happens in every German car I've driven including Benzes and my mate's 981 B-pillars to give you an idea of the severity of the surface.

The dashboard structure itself is very solid and well screwed together. There is no body-flex induced creaking (yes the F30 does have body flex, like all cars) and there is no scuttle shake whatsoever and therefore no structurally-borne maladies. The dash-top and hangdown consol primary plastics are dense and solid feeling. The instrument binnacle surround and its various plastic elements are much tighter and more solidly assembled than many of the F30's competitors I have evaluated. The door paneling, armrest and handle components are very pleasingly solid as well. The integration of the iDrive screen with the dash-top cannot be faulted for fit or assembly - maybe one could nitpick above the quality of the plastic panel surround but this is terribly subjective. Unless you pull apart the unit, get a Vernier out and measure the thickness of the plastic in question, any appraisal is merely personally subjective.

  • The transmission tunnel consol plastics are separate to the dashboard and I appraise this area separately. Given the these plastics sit atop the most structurally rigid part of the monocoque, BMW can get away - from a structural solidity perspective - with a lower quality item. And it is a lower quality piece of nasty plastic - make no mistake about that. I would like to see this changed for the LCI but I doubt the statements made by SCOTT27 that this interior piece has been improved. If this was the case then we would've seen this improvement introduced into the 4 Series. All this being said, I cannot lay fault with the transmission tunnel consol for any perceived pointers toward a lack of interior NVH refinement emanating from this area.

God,the F01... Just weeks from the end...I will miss that big bitch!

I've just spent three days and 2,000km driving a 730d xDrive. I have quite a bit of experience with the 7 Series but it will probably be my last chance to drive the F01 and it certainly didn't feel in need of replacement. Loved it very much.

U.S. 2016 M3 / M4 LCI New Standard Equipment and Changes (Sakhir Orange returns!)

The MY2016 M3 Sedan (F80) starts production in July 2015, and receives a majority of the F30 interior Lifecycle Impulse (LCI) measures.

Standard equipment and pricing have changed versus MY15, as the following optional equipment is now standard for MY16:

• Comfort Access Keyless Entry (322)
• Satellite Radio with 1-year subscription (655)
• Harman Kardon Surround Sound System (688)

I am happy to report that from the same source as I posted above, Sakhir Orange Metallic (B50) will make a return and be available as well

LCI Changes: Exterior
• New Rear LED Tail Lights in L-Shape
• The Lighting Package is still available for LED headlights, so LED's are NOT standard like they are on the 340i
• The only Individual colors I see is Smoked Topaz, Champagne Quartz, Azurite Black and Tanzanite Blue

LCI Changes: Interior
• Chrome Accents surrounding the Front and Rear Air vents
• Chrome Accent near buttons for electric windows
• Improved Navigation Unit: new hardware, better performance, faster start-up of navigation and Voice Command, navigation map update over the air, more realistic presentation of city details
• Door accents according to trim accent (similar to 3 Series GT and 4-Series Models)
• Improved Child Seat handling
• Center-stack changes:
• Pearlescent chrome applications for radio/climate control
• Revised Automatic climate control display: white (vs. orange)
• Ambient lighting surrounding the center-stack

Order bank is officially available to order MY16, however, pricing is still "blocked".

I do not see any other wheel options. Only 19" 437 in the Silver and Black.

MY16 M4 is also showing the same as the MY16 M3 -- Comfort Access and Sat Radio is missing from the Executive Package list and Harmon Kardon is missing from the options list so it suggests that it is standard equipment.

Re the M3, so now it gets the pre-LCI front and the LCI rear, while the M4 now gets the pre-LCI front and rear of the 4er.
So when the 4er gets facelifted, assuming history doesn't repeat (E46 and E90/E92 M3s coupe/sedan's front end never got facelifted), what will happen to the M3? I'm quite certain that the LCI changes will make it onto the M4, at least the headlight tweak. So when the M4 gets facelifted, it means the M3 will get a new front or at least new headlights? Who's going to buy the rear-end facelifted version only then?

With the 3series i think this is enough, i would've hoped they copied over the 4er kidney grilles but this differentiates it from the 4er GC. Everything was sandbagged for this - the headlight shape was built for headlights like this, the full neon/LED taillights sharpened it up. Great cost saving strategy but it works, and existing owners should be pretty happy too. I reckon the interior is good enough - for those C class lovers i think you need to spec up the C-class to make it look good otherwise the middle is more of a bland piece of shiny plastic or whatever the trim is. This looks quite a bit more upscale than the matte plastic trims on the pre LCI - although in general i still think the interior is a bit too crowded with lines.

It has nothing to do with the LCI.

What I cannot make out from the pictures is the resolution of the new screen. Is it brighter/ crisper than the preLCI?

I have only found this:

"The current version of the navigation system Professional is characterised by refined graphics and enhanced computing performance as well as the exceptionally high- quality design of the 8.8-inch onboard monitor with larger glass surface and a slim surround."
