Unfortunately in the North American market the 5er Gran Turismo makes the 5er Touring redundant as the 5er Touring will not be sold in this market.
Demand for the Touring in particular the 3er and 5er has diminished rapidly with sales dropping at the rate of 200 units per month.
So BMW has taken the entrepreneurial decision to remove the 5er Touring from the US Market.
With hindsight the BMW 5er Gran Turismo since it's introduction to the US has sold far more units than the E61 535i/xDrive3.5i Touring combined in the past year.

More of the same . But if you have a good idea you can reinterpret it for it's bloodline relative.
BMW shouldn't kid it self with initial 5GT sales - everyone who likes it would probably buy it in the first year and it will probably sink like a stone after that - just my 10 cent prediction.
Anyway, as a wagon lover, it sucks that the beautiful wagon is not coming state side - just look at it, it is less of a mundane wagon and more of a shooting brake. I doubt they would have had any trouble selling it here.
