5 Series (F10/F11/F07/F18) [Official] BMW F11 5 Series Touring

The BMW F10/F11/F07/F18 is the sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series, manufactured for model years 2010–2017. The body styles of the range are: 4-door sedan/saloon (F10), 5-door estate/wagon (F11, marketed as "Touring"), 5-door fastback (F07, marketed as "Gran Turismo"), and 4-door long wheelbase sedan (F18, sold only in China and the Middle East).
Love it! Makes the ugly GT even more redundant.

Unfortunately in the North American market the 5er Gran Turismo makes the 5er Touring redundant as the 5er Touring will not be sold in this market.

Demand for the Touring in particular the 3er and 5er has diminished rapidly with sales dropping at the rate of 200 units per month.
So BMW has taken the entrepreneurial decision to remove the 5er Touring from the US Market.

With hindsight the BMW 5er Gran Turismo since it's introduction to the US has sold far more units than the E61 535i/xDrive3.5i Touring combined in the past year.

More of the same . But if you have a good idea you can reinterpret it for it's bloodline relative.

540d (306 hp) is coming this autumn, and I'm sure there will be an xDrive version of it as well :)

funny how some see that as an "optical tric" and some as lazy incoherent design and ugly.

It's not lazy and incoherent because it has been done with more boot space in mind...

IMO there must be a x-drive version, this will broaden not only the appeal but also boost the F11's market share in the EU especially, since the US market does not get the F11. Combining the stylish looks and practicality of the F11 and offering x-drive it's definitely going to outsell the F10 sedan in the EU ;)

Pricing would be far below the GT and the F11 will have self leveling suspension in the rear + boot space = one stylish family "Sports Wagon"!

Hope Scott27 could stop us wondering about a F11 X-drive version/s:confused:

Since touring sales took a dip as mentioned by Scott27 I think BMW needs an X-drive variant to boost sales in the markets where touring sales are high i.e. the EU.....

The tech and hardware is already there, so if customers are ready to pay the extra for X-drive BMW would be "penny wise, pound foolish" not to offer the F11 with X-drive.

Sales for the Touring have only dropped drastically in North America.
BMW's largest market for the 5er Touring remains Germany.
That is why it will have a German World Premiere.

Both the Sedan and Touring will offer xDrive and 540d designation later this year

yes it is, you can not give a car just a slightly sharper windowline in order to make it more sporty. You make a choice, you go for the bootspace and give up some of the design or less bootspace and a sharper look. This is something that plagues MB from time to time, trying to be a little too versatile. A focused look is refreshing, like the new 5 series estate, it's clear what it wants to be.

The designers of the MB estate should have looked for a solution to make the roof and windowline work together. Buut they went for the easy solution, just both put together, with as a result an incoherent design. There ya go, lazy. IMO, the 5 series estate is a much more independant model on its own whereas the E has that sedan with an estateboot feel, IMO.

Judging on the looks and my own personal predisposition towards BMW's Touring models, I have just one word:

Faultless.

In fact, as far as my own personal opinions go, the only thing wrong with the F11 is that it makes the 5er GT look even uglier than it already is.

Makes perfect sense. Good call by BMW.

Are those available in high res already? I love the shots with the F10 and F11 together. Now come through with the shots of the whole 5er family including the F07 please, in wallpaper size :eusa_pray:eusa_pray:eusa_pray

Really? I find the car to be really good looking IRL.

Looks very nice, but strangely, and as with the sedan, it makes nothing to me. Doesn't evoke anything. It's a nice-looking car, but not much more. The nicest looking of all these newer Bimmers is definitely the splendid 7er, the 5er is boring compared to it.

Just a shock, it's unbelievable how different these cars look in different trims. Just the S212 for example:

Looks much better on the photo above then on the comparison photo. So with some options the S212 can be also very stylish…nevertheless a sporty family would choose the A6 or 5-series I bet!
BMW did a great job with the Touring. Especially the side profile is much more sporty 3-series then 5-series. In my opinion that's very good. One sleek machine.

Ree, you're right, it looks pretty good there. I suspect that in the comparison photo, that since the E's on a slight incline, it messes with one's perception. It's still no denying that the E's more upright, whereas the 5er's sleeker. I'll take the sleek machine.
