X5 [Official] BMW (E70) X5 Facelift


The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
It's good to hear from you guys. Unfortunately, I'm not part of the marketing crew, just a good old engineer. So I'll let those guys do what they are "supposed" to do

And yes, most are extremely exited for the M5. Some are very negative and think the car should be called 550is or something, but those people moan about everything.
 
Why are the side view cameras surrounded by those little white squares?

They just appear white. It's actually a "brushed alu / titanium" detailing of the camera housing / frame: in the same way just like the slots in air intakes or grille slots - and fits perfectly to wheels as well.

As warot said: it's for aesthetic purposes only.

Not worth risking your job, I agree. I always tell our sources that if it's something that can be traced to him/her easily, to just not tell me anything or if I do hear a lot of things, they usually stay offline.

We do have something cool to post soon :) what the current 3 Series coupe could have looked like based on a clay model presented for consideration :)

But anyway, more news on the X5 in the next few hours.

The new 2010 BMW X5
This spring, BMW will write the latest chapter in the story of the world’s first Sports Activity Vehicle®, the BMW X5. Originally launched for the 2000 model year in late 1999, the BMW X5 permanently changed the automotive landscape. It proved that the driving dynamics, responsiveness, and linear control signature to every BMW could be compatible with utility, versatility, and other-roads capability. For 2011, the BMW X5 models are enhanced with new powertrains and updated design. The new BMW X5 will make its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show in April, and will go on sale at authorized BMW Centers shortly thereafter.
Innovative new design elements and powertrains are the result of over 4,000 new parts created by BMW designers and engineers for the 2011 BMW X5. Two of the X5’s powertrains will be all-new for 2011, creating the new X5 xDrive50i and X5 xDrive35i, in addition to the familiar BMW Advanced Diesel X5 xDrive35d. All models receive a design update that enhances the brilliant focus and aesthetic appearance of the X5 brand.

The body design of the 2011 BMW X5 is characterized by well-balanced proportions that accentuate the vehicle’s powerful presence and agility. A long wheelbase, short front and rear body overhangs, and large light-alloy wheels provide a visual balance between the front and rear of the vehicle. Square-shaped, carefully flared wheel arches hint at the X5’s all-wheel drive traction and other-roads capability. The body lines sweep upwards from the front and rear wheels, communicating BMW’s near-perfect 50-50 front-rear weight distribution which is so essential to the X5’s legendary driving dynamic.
The sides of the X5 are elegantly stretched though the strong horizontal lines of each side. The surface of the hood flows seamlessly into the waiseline, while the prominent, gently inclined contour line at the door handle level extends from the front wheel arches to the rear of the vehicle. These character lines symbolize power, stability, and presence.

With its distinctively contoured hood, large BMW kidney grille and dual round headlights, the new BMW X5 boasts an expressive front end that symbolizes power and presence. The newest interpretation of the X5’s look is led by the redesign of the front fascia and position of the standard foglamps. Due to an increase in the number of elements painted body color, the front end gives the impression of being lower. At the same time, the increased size of both the central and outer air intakes hint at the boosted engine output. The black trim at the bottom edge of the body is now considerably narrower. A matte-finished silver protection plate extends across the entire width of the central air intake, emphasizing the muscular features of the SAV, and accentuates the new X5’s character.
The dual round Xenon Adaptive headlights and foglamps are now situated higher and closer to the kidney grille. The X5’s new headlight fixtures emphasize high quality and sporting intentions. BMW’s signature corona rings serve as position lights and daytime driving lights.

The newly conceived rear apron matches the graphic structure of the front end, while the intricately designed surrounds of the dual exhaust pipes are painted in body color to underline the X5’s premium character. In the center, a matte-finished silver protection element emphasizes strength and durability suitable for other-roads use.
Above the rear bumper, the rear of the new X5 is divided by parallel horizontal lines. The result is an accentuation of the width, highlighting the vehicle’s athletic capabilities. The L-shaped taillight fixtures, each with two LED light banks, create the BMW-signature nighttime appearance of the rear end.

A choice of new body colors provides further visual enhancements. The metallic colors Deep Sea Blue, Platinum Grey, and Sparkling Bronze are now available for the BMW X5. Inside, the available Nevada Leather can be chosen in stunning new Oyster or Cinnamon Brown colors in addition to the familiar Sand Beige, and Black, and matte Satin Silver interior trim strips are added if the owner does not select from the available Brushed Aluminum, Dark Bamboo, Light Poplar, or Burl Walnut wood trims.
X5 xDrive50i: BMW’s Twin-Turbocharged V-8.
The new BMW X5 xDrive50i takes its place as the flagship of the X5 family, yielding 400 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 450 lb-ft of torque at 1,750 – 4,500 rpm from its twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V-8 engine. Introduced in the BMW X6 in Spring of 2008, this all-aluminum V-8 features High Precision direct fuel injection, “reverse-flow” architecture for revolutionary responsiveness and packaging, and BMW’ s VANOS variable valve timing technology. Together, these features create what may be the perfect balance between high fuel efficiency, low emissions, and the dominant, dynamic performance expected of a BMW V-8. The 0-60 mph sprint is accomplished in 5.3 seconds (preliminary). EPA fuel efficiency figures for the X5 xDrive50i will be available closer to the on sale date. The
X5 xDrive50i starts at $59,275 including Destination & Handling.
As part of the V-8 engine’s reverse-flow architecture, the twin turbochargers are situated in the valley of the engine’s “V” and exhale separately into two catalytic converters which are located on top of the engine and exit aftward into the large stainless-steel exhaust system via downpipes on either side of the new 8-speed automatic transmission. The exhaust streams remain separated until they meet in the large muffler at the rear of the vehicle and exit through two large, trapezoidal exhaust tips.

X5 xDrive35i: BMW’s Turbocharged Inline-6 with Valvetronic.
BMW’s new X5 xDrive 35i receives a brand new inline-6 gasoline engine, internally dubbed “N55.” The new engine features the same 3.0-liter displacement and 300 horsepower output of its predecessor (the “N54″), but features a single twin-scroll turbocharger in place of the previous twin, low-mass turbocharger units. Furthermore, the new inline-6 of the X5 xDrive35i is the first BMW inline-6 to combine BMW’s revolutionary Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology, High Precision direct fuel injection, and turbocharging. The result of combining this new inline-6 with the new 8-speed automatic is an X5 with incredibly spontaneous responsiveness, exceptional power, and remarkable efficiency. The new X5 xDrive35i will perform the 0-60mph sprint in 6.4 seconds, coincidentally on the same pace as the outgoing V-8 powered
X5 xDrive48i. EPA figures will be available closer to the on sale date.

For the 2011 model year, BMW has made the X5 xDrive35i available in two additional trim levels: “Premium” and “Sports Activity.”
The essential X5 xDrive35i has an MSRP of $46,675 including Destination & Handling, and includes a popular profile of standard equipment often specified by X5 customers, including BMW’s Xenon Adaptive headlights, Rain Sensor with automatic headlight control, HD Radio, automatic climate control, foglights, 18″ light alloy wheels, cruise control, and anti-theft alarm system. A Convenience Package is optional and adds the large panoramic moonroof, auto-dimming mirrors, Dark Burl Walnut, Bamboo, or Light Poplar wood interior trim, BMW Ambiance Lighting, and BMW Assist with Bluetooth. Stand alone options include rear side window shades, Navigation system with Real Time Traffic Information and Voice Command, satellite radio with 1-year subscription, and an iPod / USB adapter interface.
The X5 xDrive35i Premium has an MSRP of $52,475 including Destination & Handling and includes a boosted profile of standard equipment, such as 19″ light alloy wheels, roof rails and panoramic moonroof, power adjustable steering column, iPod / USB adapter interface, and privacy glass. Best of all, it includes standard Nevada Leather. In addition, buyers of the Premium model may choose up to four packages, including the Active Ventilated Seat Package, Convenience Package, Cold Weather Package, and Technology Package. Each package includes a raft of focused features that enhance comfort and convenience, allowing buyers to better customize the X5 to personal taste. Third Row seating, which enables the X5 to accommodate up to 7 passengers, also becomes available on this model.
The X5 xDrive35i Sport Activity has an MSRP of $54,975 including Destination & Handling and includes even more standard equipment than the Premium model, such as 20″ light alloy wheels, sport seats, Shadowline exterior trim, and Anthracite headliner. In addition to the packages available on the Premium model, customers may add the popular M Sport Package to the X5 xDrive35i Sport Activity model. The M Sport Package includes 20″ wheels with performance tires, the Adaptive Drive system, aluminum roof rails, M door sill plates, M driver footrest, M steering wheel, M aerodynamic enhancements, and increased top speed limiter (150 mph).
New 8-speed Automatic Transmission with Steptronic.
On both new gasoline models of the X5, sending the newfound power to the standard xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system is BMW’s new 8-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic control. The new 8-speed transmission is standard in the X5 xDrive50i and X5 xDrive35i, and raises the industry standard for compactness, efficiency, and gear selection. The new transmission weighs no more than its 6-speed predecessor, yet offers closer ratios in the lower gears for improved acceleration and two additional “tall” gears for relaxed, efficient cruising. BMW’s 8-speed automatic was introduced on the 5 Series Gran Turismo and 760Li Sedan in the fall of 2009.

Using the console-mounted e-shifter, the X5 driver chooses from three shifting programs: Drive, Drive Sport, and Manual. In Manual mode, the driver selects from the eight forward gear ratios via the + / – action of the shifter (push forward to downshift; pull back to upshift). At any speed, Neutral is easily selected via a forward push of the selector from Drive and, when at a standstill, Park is selected by depressing the “P” button atop the shifter, or by pushing the Engine Start-Stop button (doing so will also stop the engine).

BMW’s Brake Energy Regeneration system is also fitted to the gasoline X5 models. It incorporates a special deep-cycle Glass Mat battery with programmed alternator disengagement so that, most of the time, the vehicle’s battery is only charged while the vehicle is coasting or braking. Over time, the Brake Energy Regeneration system can save 1-2% on fuel consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration is another feature in BMW’s EfficientDynamics portfolio of small features and adjustments which have a cumulative effect on the efficiency-performance balance of each BMW vehicle.
X5 xDrive35d: Maintaining the Benchmark with BMW Advanced Diesel Technology.
The BMW Advanced Diesel X5 xDrive35d was introduced to the United States as a 2009 model, and despite increased competition remains the fastest, most fuel efficient diesel-powered vehicle in its class. The huge torque output of 425 lb-ft. at 1750-2250 rpm speaks for itself; X5 xDrive35d drivers will marvel at this engine’s robust response at low to medium speeds. The peak power output of 265 hp also makes an impact, as does the resulting 0-60-mph time of 6.9 seconds. It returns EPA mileage estimates of 19 mpg city and 26 highway.
For the 2011 model, BMW has made no changes to the award-winning BMW Advanced Diesel powertrain, but rather has focused efforts to ensure the X5 xDrive35d benefits from the latest design updates to the X5 family. Despite the enhancements for the new model year, MSRP for this model remains $52,175 including Destination & Handling.
BMW Advanced Diesel with BluePerformance optimizes emission management by incorporating an oxidation catalyst placed close to the engine, a diesel particulate filter housed in the same unit, and an SCR catalyst with urea injection. Apart from filtering out even the smallest particles from the flow of exhaust gases, this combination ensures effective reduction of nitric oxides (NOX) by way of a chemical reaction within the exhaust system initiated by the injection of a small dose of urea referred to as Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Into the exhaust stream. The ammonia (NH3) generated in this process within the SCR catalyst subsequently converts the nitric oxides (NO and, respectively, NO2) in the exhaust gas into environmentally compatible nitrogen (N2) and water vapor (H2O).

BMW has developed a two-tank system for DEF ensuring convenient use of this new technology with all the benefits and ease required by the customer: The amount of DEF required in each case is drawn from the active tank comprising approximately 1.6 gallons by means of a dosage pump. And since the urea solution would freeze at a temperature of 12.2o F (−11oC), this active tank, as well as the dosage pipes are heated.
BMW has made the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle a hallmark for drivers who wish to personalize their ride. Therefore, an excellent selection of optional features has been available since the original X5 was launched in the 2000 model year. Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go becomes available for the first time on the X5 in the 2011 model year, as does Lane Departure Warning. Active Steering, running boards, Head-Up Display, 4-zone automatic climate control, rear seat entertainment system, side-view cameras, top-view camera, Nappa Leather seats, Nappa Leather-covered dashboard and center console, Comfort Access with keyless entry, and smartphone integration are just a few of the available options.

But I'm hearing some other models are going to get it as well. :usa7uh: Others will have to satisfy with rear e-diff, I guess.

Sure DPC contributes to better cornering performance versus e-diff (eg. seen in higher lateral-g), yet the corner stability is in both cases very high. DPC "only" enables higher limits. Therefore it's suitable for performance oriented xDrive cars.
 
Speaking of DPC and e-DPC... I've seen that the electronic version of DPC (or just basically reprogrammed DSC that brakes the appropriate rear wheel instead of redistributing power between the wheels in the rear axle) is available as an option on X1. Since it is just a software thing, is it also an option on the X5 LCI?

I've been thinking about the possibility of retrofitting DPC to my X5, but I doubt it is worth the trouble involved.

That sucks as I have read Scott write that Acura's Sh-AWD is better than X5s Xdrive without DPC. Which means that Acura MDX's AWD is better than LCI X5s. :t-banghea

Thanks to BMW EfficientDynamics, all versions of the new BMW X5 achieve the optimum ratio between performance and fuel consumption in each of their engine classes. The new top-of-the-range model is the BMW X5 xDrive50i, whose V8 power unit featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo and direct petrol injection (High Precision Injection) has an output of 300 kW/407 bhp. The new BMW X5 xDrive35i is powered by a 225 kW/306 bhp straight six-cylinder engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo, High Precision Injection and VALVETRONIC. All versions of the new BMW X5 are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. With its innovative gear set configuration as well as minimum converter slip, it offers a combination of outstanding shifting dynamics, optimised effectiveness and the highest degree of comfort. Consequently, the eight-speed automatic transmission is a further factor contributing towards enhanced road performance and efficiency.


The design of the new BMW X5 is characterised by well-balanced proportions that make the vehicle look exquisitely dynamic and elegant. Thanks to specific modifications to the front and rear end, all versions of the BMW X5 clearly visualise a marked increase in driving dynamics.


Larger side air intakes at the front and an increased proportion of surfaces painted in body colour within the area of the front and rear end aprons point to an increase in engine output and emphasise the vehicle’s orientation to the road. The new BMW X5’s athletic character is additionally underlined by the reshaped rear bumper and the tailpipe surrounds.


The dual round headlamps featured in the new BMW X5 are, in conjunction with optional Xenon lights, fitted with LED corona rings which serve as exceptionally high-class and effective daytime running lights. The L-shaped, redesigned taillights, each with two homogeneously illuminated LED light banks, reflect the brand-typical night-time design of the rear end.

The BMW xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive system distributes drive torque between the front and rear axels via an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch. DSC Dynamic Stability Control ensures rapid, situation-related response, enhancing both driving dynamics and traction. Thanks to a revised, more neutrally interpreted basic configuration, xDrive now contributes more significantly towards an increase in driving dynamics. Moreover, spring and damper adjustment of the BMW X5 xDrive50i and the BMW X5 xDrive40d systems have undergone model-specific modifications. The standard equipment of the new BMW X5 also includes the speed-dependent Servotronic steering assist system. Newly devised Active Steering and Adaptive Drive are optionally available.


Within the framework of BMW ConnectedDrive, the new BMW X5 offers a multitude of unique driver assistance systems and services for optimising comfort, safety and for the use of the infotainment functions. In addition to the Head-up Display, Adaptive Cornering Headlights, High-Beam Assistant, Park Distance Control and reversing camera with Surround View, the functions Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Departure Warning, Speed limit Info and Side View are all available for the BMW X5.


In addition to the extremely stiff body structure, standard equipment incorporating front and side airbags, side head airbags for the front and second-row seats, three-point automatic safety belts for all seats, belt tensioners and belt force limiters as well as crash-active front headrests and the ISOFIX child seat system at the rear contribute towards optimising occupant protection. Furthermore, the new BMW X5 is equipped with adaptive brake lights, runflat safety tyres and a tyre defect indicator.


High-quality materials, premium finish and a comprehensive range of standard equipment characterise the luxurious style of the new BMW X5. Four-zone automatic climate control is available as an alternative to regular automatic climate control. The navigation system Professional features a hard disk storage unit for digital maps and the personal music collection. The audio equipment comprises an MP3-compatible CD player and an AUX-IN connection. Further options include, inter alia, a USB audio connection, the BMW Individual high-end audio system, a DVD changer and a DVD entertainment system. The BMW X5 xDrive40d’s all-aluminium straight six-cylinder engine with TwinPower Turbo and Common Rail direct injection develops a maximum power output of 225 kW/306 bhp. In spite of a 15 kW higher output than its predecessor, average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle has been reduced by 0.8 percent to 7.5 litres/100 km. The new interpretation of this look, which is characteristic of BMW X models, comprises in particular the structure of the front apron and the position of the fog lamps featured as standard. Due to an increased number of elements painted in matching body colour, the front end gives the impression of being nearer to the road surface. At the same time, the increased size of both the inner and the two outer air intakes indicates the boosted engine output. Hence, the newly conceived front end accentuates the BMW X5’s further enhanced sporting performance.

The black plastic trim at the bottom edge of the body is now considerably narrower. A matt-finished silver underride protection extending across the entire width of the middle air intake, thereby emphasising the muscular features of this Sports Activity Vehicle, additionally accentuates the new BMW X5’s robust character.

Together with the dual round headlights, fog lamps, which are now situated higher and closer to the BMW kidney grille, form a triangular design typical of BMW X models. The onboard computer and the audio system as well as the navigation and communication functions are activated by tilting, turning and pressing the controller, which is located in the middle of the centre console. New range of engines: All petrol and diesel versions with turbocharger and direct injection.

A completely revised engine range ensures that the BMW X5 will continue to strengthen its leading role as the most dynamic vehicle in its segment. The choice of petrol engines now comprises a V8 and a straight six-cylinder power unit, both of which feature BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and direct fuel injection. Petrol engines: Significantly increased output thanks to BMW TwinPower Turbo.

Due to its V8 engine featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and High Precision Injection, output of the new BMW X5 xDrive50i has increased by 39 kW compared with the predecessor model. The unique 4.4 litre engine, the turbochargers of which are located inside the V-section between the cylinder banks, develops an output of 300 kW/407 bhp within an engine speed range of 5,500 to 6,400 rpm. Maximum torque is at 600 Nm between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. The extremely spontaneous and fascinatingly high-revving V8 engine offers outstanding sporting performance and is at the same time the most efficient engine of its kind worldwide. The BMW X5 xDrive50i accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, reaching its top speed at 250 km/h. Average fuel consumption according to the EU test cycle is 12.5 litres/100 km. The CO2 emission level is 292 grams/km.

Likewise, the second petrol engine variant of the new BMW X5 is characterised by significantly improved performance and impressive efficiency. The BMW X5 xDrive35i features the first straight six-cylinder to combine BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, direct petrol injection (High Precision Injection) and VALVETRONIC variable valve control.

Its supercharging system where – adhering to the Twinscroll principle – the ducts of three cylinders at a time are separated from one another both in the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger, and the further developed VALVETRONIC system lend the 3-litre power unit its fascinatingly spontaneous response behaviour. With 225 kW/306 bhp at 5,800 rpm the engine surpasses its predecessor’s maximum output by 25 kW. Maximum torque of 400 Nm is available between 1,200 und 5,000 rpm. The significantly increased output is combined with an average fuel consumption reduced to 10.1 litres/100 km in the EU test cycle and a CO2 emission level of 236 grams/km.

New generation of diesel engines in two output categories.

The diesel engines available for the new BMW X5 also originate from a new generation of power units. An all-aluminium construction, the latest Common Rail direct injection technology with piezo injectors and a turbocharger provide both 3-litre straight six-cylinder engines with impressive power, awesome running refinement and unparalleled efficiency. A further reduction in weight compared to each of their predecessors additionally enhances the agility of the diesel engine variants that are on offer for the BMW X5.

Above all, the new BMW X5 xDrive40d is characterised by exceptionally high performance qualities. Thanks to BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and Common Rail direct injection, its power unit, which was first presented in the BMW 740d luxury saloon, delivers a maximum output of 225 kW/306 bhp at 4,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 600 Nm available between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. Torque of 450 Nm is already achieved at an engine speed of 1,000 rpm. More than 90 percent of maximum output is available within a range of 3,500 to 5,000 rpm. The new diesel has a maximum engine speed of 5,600 rpm.

The supercharging technology featured by the new high-performance diesel engine adheres to the Variable Twin Turbo principle. This means that initially, just above idling speed, a small charger is activated, with an additional larger charger being activated when higher torque is required. Spontaneous and consistent accelerating power allows the BMW X5 xDrive40d to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. Top speed is 236 km/h. Exceptionally sporty development of power is coupled with impressive efficiency. This is mainly due to the Common Rail technology, operating at a maximum pressure of 2,000 bar and guaranteeing an extremely accurately regulated fuel supply. The BMW X5 xDrive40d has an average fuel consumption of 7.5 litres/100 km in the EU test cycle and a CO2 emission level of 198 grams/km.

The second diesel variant in the model range is the new BMW X5 xDrive30d. Its straight six-cylinder engine is supercharged and has a variable turbine geometry and Common Rail direct injection operating at a maximum pressure of 1,800 bar. The engine generates its maximum output of 180 kW/245 bhp at 4,000 rpm, producing its maximum torque of 540 Nm between 1,750 and 3,000 rpm. The new BMW X5 xDrive30d accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 222 km/h. In spite of having a 7 kW higher output than its predecessor, the vehicle’s average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is now 7.4 litres/100 km, a reduction of 10%. The new BMW X5 xDrive30d achieves a CO2 emission level of 195 grams/km.

Standard feature: Eight-speed automatic transmission with optimised shifting dynamics and unmatched efficiency.

All new BMW X5 model variants are equipped as standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The new transmission combines shifting comfort, sporting characteristics and efficiency at an unprecedented level. Permanent four-wheel drive with electronically-controlled variable torque distribution between front and rear axles not only gives the new BMW X5 supreme traction on off-road terrain, but also superior driving dynamics on tarmac.

BMW xDrive technology was initially featured in the first-generation BMW X5 and has since then been constantly refined. It is an intelligent four-wheel drive system that uses a transfer box with an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch to constantly feed power as required to the axle that has the best contact with the road surface. As a result, xDrive also enhances driving stability when taking bends at higher speeds as it anticipates any tendency to oversteer or understeer and counteracts these forces effectively.

In normal driving situations, BMW xDrive distributes drive forces to the front and rear axles in a 40:60 split. Sensors constantly measure slip on all wheels. Within a fraction of a second, the system is able to vary the power distribution ratio. As opposed to previous four-wheel drive systems, BMW xDrive also reacts anticipatorily and does not wait until a wheel begins to spin.
Therefore, the vehicle is stabilised before the driver even notices the need to take action. If the selected distance from the vehicle ahead is insufficiently maintained, the system automatically makes the necessary adjustments by intervening into the car control system and by building up brake pressure. If required, the vehicle can be brought safely to a complete standstill. After a short stop, the system automatically sets the car in motion again. If the vehicle stops longer than desired, the driver can restart the car by pressing either a button or by actuating the accelerator pedal.

The Lane Departure Warning feature also available for the BMW X5 is able to identify unintentional drifting from the lane at a speed of at least 70 km/h. The system consists of a camera, which is installed on the windscreen in the vicinity of the rear-view mirror, a control unit for data synchronisation and a pulse emitter that activates a gentle but unmistakeable vibration on the steering wheel. The camera detects the markings on at least one lane. A control unit calculates the position of the vehicle in relation to these markings. The system also works in bends, on narrow lanes and in the dark as soon as the headlights are switched on.

Furthermore, the Speed Limit Info function can also be used in conjunction with the Lane Departure Warning and the navigation system Professional. This function offers the driver the possibility to obtain information regarding the route he is currently on. The camera used for the Lane Departure Warning permanently monitors road signs as well as variable overhead gantry signs on motorways.

Sure DPC contributes to better cornering performance versus e-diff (eg. seen in higher lateral-g), yet the corner stability is in both cases very high. DPC "only" enables higher limits. Therefore it's suitable for performance oriented xDrive cars.
DPC does way more than that. An e-diff is rather a workaround than a real solution and has some pretty big disadvantages compared to a mechanical LSD, let alone a torque vectoring diff (DPC). I guess the next car getting DPC will be coming from Garching, and I'm perfectly fine with that. :D

This is an awesome update, not that one was needed in my opinion, aesthetically at least. The new front and rear bumper is what makes the facelift so impressive - it brings a certain diluted X5 M styling which can only be a good thing to the regular models.

As for the new engines, about time. Now I wonder how this update will affect X6 sales as the X5 is so much more practical and just as powerful as the X6 at all engine size points which was not the case before.

couldn't agree more, but maybe when we see it irl our opinion would change.

Tastefully done, subtle yet substantial. The best just got better, though I am not to fond of the placement of the fogs....

That said, the engine range - dynamic upgrades - electronic and extra gizmo's + better standard equipment list is excellent!

ONE last thing....PLEASE, PLEASE BMW!!!!!:eusa_pray Make ADAPTIVE DRIVE A STANDARD, I mean come on, it makes a real difference and has to be part of the experience! Part of Sheer Driving pleasure...rethink your strategy on that one option, thank you!
