The 5 series is going to look absolutely bonkers in the metal.

As quick as the M550i is going to be apart from a blistering acceleration off the line due to AWD. I don't think it's going to be anywhere near the performance of the F10 M5. Unless you live in the snowy part of the world.

It will likely be faster in real world city driving. Not on the freeway.

The New 550i is really fantastic
I think Bmw Have A Subject when they make The 5er
The subject name is
The Car That Will Never Get Old Even After 10 years.(y)

Real world driving is in gear acceleration whether city or highway driving. Unless the it's going to be a standing start i.e. robot to robot, the M5 is going to be the faster car day to day in the real world.

Will it be accurate to speculate the decision (if true) is driven by the sales department and not for technical reasons?
The technical reason I got in South Africa is that our climate is too hot, which is not true, since the M5 is coming..

My uneducated guess is that it somehow is too complicated/expensive to convert it to RHD. Maybe so tight with the large engine and AWD system.

Its something to do with the market I think they do not want it stepping too much on the toes of the M5.
If we look at the series both present and future in Europe (although not all markets) there will be the M550i and then looking ahead the M550d,Alpina B5 and the M5 of course. And then further you will have the M550e and the M5 Competition. So there is going to be a 5 series for every level of performance.
