3 Series (G20) [Official] BMW 3 Series (G20)

The BMW G20 is the seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: G20 (sedan), G21 (wagon/touring), G28 BEV (i3), and G28 (long-wheelbase). Predecessor: F30 3 Series. Successor: G50 3 Series. Production: October 2018-2016.
Isn't it weird that they presented the Alpine touring before the sedan, since the sedan was on sale many months before?
Or this is a more special version
For Alpina the Touring is more important, due to the lack of a direct competitor from BMW and the huge success of AUDI RS Avant models.

that's one reason, the other is that Germany and the UK still are very important markets for Alpina especially when it comes to B3 and D3 and there the Touring is very popular.

When you don’t tick that laser lights option you get less elaborate DRLs in BMWs.

Looks great. Certainly is totally preferable to the M340 in my opinion, and I suspect if the Beaver tooth grille on the M3 is going to be a thing, the B3 might be preferable to that too for a lot of people.

If only BMW SA gave us Alpina down here - that'd be an option. Tourings, Alpinas, the deprivation is real in the Southern Hemisphere.

Does seem like quite an omission. Are personal imports an option down there?

Alpina expanded into the Southern Hemisphere a couple of years ago when they started selling cars in Australia... it's a bigger market for sure, but not that much bigger than SA... who knows, maybe you're next!

Duties levied on private imports make affordability prohibitive, moreover our eNATIS regulations mean that - without manufacturer support - you'll be jumping through hoops to get the car certified for road-legal use. It's deliberately deterred.

The biggest difference is that the B3 doesn't have a tuned M340i engine but a detuned new M3 engine. Having a S58 engine makes it a real competitor to the future M3

It’s aweful by BMW. Icon headlights make such a big visual difference to cars. They are standard on the 1 Series, only cost £500 for the X3 but a hefty £1,500 for the 3-Series and X5. Sure they are laser light but it’s an expensive price to pay to get rid of the “poverty headlights”-look.

Totally agree they are pushing people to option laser lights the X5 and LCI 5er same thing . When the 1 series and X3 eventually get laser lights the same will happen. The DRLs look so much better when you have laser lights.

I actually don't agree. I initially was going to spec the LASER lights for my X5, but in Carbon Black at least, I prefer the look of the standard lights, so I didn't. The LASER function is only for the HIGH BEAM, so it's a lot of money for something you barely use. I think I've used the function twice since July. And the standard set up is LED anyway.

By far and away the most common set up I see on models which have LASER as an option is to just go for the standard set up. So it's obviously not working. And I don't agree the DRLs look better with the LASER option.

Also, guys, I wasn’t aware Alpina was using the new M3 engine for this:

I'm sure it's been mentioned here before, most recently on the last page ;)

I think 'ALPINA specific peripherals and turbochargers' is code for 'BMW made us de-tune it abit so we don't upstage the M3'.

Good to see them getting more aggressive. The choice to use the M-Sport bumpers as the basis for their own mods is a good one too IMHO.
