3 Series (G20) [Official] BMW 3 Series (G20)

The BMW G20 is the seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: G20 (sedan), G21 (wagon/touring), G28 BEV (i3), and G28 (long-wheelbase). Predecessor: F30 3 Series. Successor: G50 3 Series. Production: October 2018-2016.
Why let it bother you?

1) Because it's obvious to me it's done to antagonise and wind people up. And it works. :D

2) It's not just me who finds it nauseating and tedious.

3) It's annoying when you click a thread which has new posts and it's just the same person writing the same post about how the BMW "dominates the segment" or other statements which seem to be posted on a daily basis. It's not that it's being said. It's that it's repetative.

5) Because unlike "b immerpost", this forum is for ALL German car manufacturers, and there are arguments on a daily basis between fanboys. Posts from either side which push a certain agenda just serve to create discourse, which is no good for anybody.

6) I lasted two weeks in my attempts to ignore. :D

If not here to be enthusiastic about BMW then where?

Why get so worked up about people being overly excitable over a car brand they favour? It's gonna happen, let it go.

If it's OK for someone to continually make oleaginous posts, then surely it's understandable if people sporadically call it out? It's not like it's every time they make these posts there's a reaction. It's only when this happens that it's noticed. What you're asking is for someone to be able to repetatively make the same posts without ANY reaction, which is hard to do after a while, especially when, as I suspect, it's done deliberately to provoke, which is actually trolling. I don't think it's any coincidence that this comes after the posts yesterday in the X3 M v AMG GLC 63 thread.

As you know Martin, I love BMW. They're my "fave". But it doesn't mean someone repeatedly posting how great they are isn't boring. The thing is, I don't like some aspects of the G20, particularly the front, yet if I or anybody repeatedly posted that fact then we'd be accused of "trolling". Why should it be different if the posts are positive?

Anyway, I always end up sticking my head above the parapet and take the flack for it when I know other people feel the same. It's no big deal. Just try understand that if someone continually posts with a certain biased and partisan viewpoint, it's going to cause certain reactions. (y)

Arguably the most important model in the new 3 Series line-up proves diesel, and the Ultimate Driving Machine, are alive and well 4.5/ 5

1) I can identify and agree with all of your points - I very, very often find stuff said on here to be banal and infantile. But, no point in sweating it. You can't police the entire world.
2) I feel sorry for the more detail-oriented members who used to come here for in-depth, analytically oriented discussion. But that was many years ago and this is the internet - things evolve.
3) I love BMW too, I too feel disinclined to criticise some of their recent products because of the potential - and invariably uninformed - backlash. Suffice to say, I'm not rushing out to buy a G20, nor am I drinking the 992 Kool-aid. But heaven forbid if you talk out of turn, you damn naysaying harbinger of doom!
4) This being a public forum, you're also, and still, entirely within your own rights to voice your displeasure with the constant brand-worship. I'm just saying you can't expect much more from it or do much more about it other than get worked up.
5) Smile and wave.
6) What happened to 4)?

I'm pretty much the same in the real world. I'm constantly being told by family "you can't control how other people behave".

I'm just saying you can't expect much more from it or do much more about it other than get worked up.

I guess you're right. No, I KNOW you're right.

6) What happened to 4)?

D'oh!

When I was 14 my maths teacher said two things to me.

"Matthew, you're not very good at counting".

"There’s something about the 2.0-litre diesel, too, because although its headline power and torque figures remain unchanged, it hauls like the last one never did, and in a way that requires more than a 55kg weight drop to explain. In fact, BMW is reverting to the sequential turbo trick it first used on the 535d back in its E60 days, well over a decade ago. It combines a small high-pressure turbo with a large low-pressure unit to ensure near lag-free response at low revs and a penchant for headbutting the limiter that you rarely find in an oil-burner."

Hang on. So is Andrew Frankel saying the engine is a Twin-turbo? Or is it a Twin-scroll SINGLE turbo like the F30? I'm confused.

It is a biturbo. The strange thing is that nor the max hp neither the max torque have changed. When the engine was introduced it was said that the reason for adding one more turbo is emission compliance.

Two or three years ago, when BMW presented new engines on International Vienna Motor symposium, they said that every 20d diesel engine will be bi-turbo. I guess this is it.

The 2019 BMW 3 Series has just been rated by the IIHS with its Top Safety Pick+, the highest rating given by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The new 3 Series joins the current BMW X5, X3, 5 Series and 2 Series in receiving the Top Safety Pick+ rating.

5/5 haven’t seen those in a while.

Imma bout to throw a Veruca Salt-level tantrum because this beaut won't be showing up Stateside. Downright criminal.

I know. Some manufacturers seem to be stuck in a Willy Wonka boat ride like state of delusion when product planning for other markets.;)

It's such a well-rounded package. If the mechanics, electronics and other gubbins hold up, this would be the ultimate 10 plus-year car. *Le sigh.*

Verdict: The return to their own virtues has paid off for the Bavarians. The BMW 320d is in terms of quality, driving dynamics and even space a real challenge to the middle class. In the seventh generation of the threesome is an exciting car from which you just can not get enough. A true class leader. On the other hand, the Mercedes C 220 d is not on, which sets the tone, at least for suspension comfort and efficiency. In the end it is the smaller space that costs the Swabians points. Second place. Third is the Kia Stinger 2.2 CRDi, which hardly performs any weaknesses even in this tough environment. Its high weight hinders him but in the performance as well as in the consumption and brake tests. Just behind it, the chic Peugeot 508 BlueHDi 180 ranks fourth. He can not achieve best results here. Ultimately, the narrow fund brings him to important points”

It’s nice to see the new G20 being the lightest for a change.

But I thought Autocar are not to be trusted, so surely you can't trust this 5/5? Or are you saying that they're now trustworthy? I'm confused.

Yes, Autocar are the worst closely followed by Evo
27th Jan 2019

That article originated from Autocar the least credible magazine at the moment they will write anything to get traffic on their site.
4th Jan 2019, when the M2 CP didn't win a head-to-head.

Autocar are trash.
19th Jul 2018

Just three quotes picked at random. Clearly if Autocar praise a BMW, then they're trustworthy. If they don't, then they're "trash".

I suppose it's a way of living in a world where everything goes just the way you want it.

Yip, all that's being stated is that a 5 star rating from Autocar hasn't been seen in a while. That's all.
