Thus far (meaning that my opinion is subject to change either because of new info, pics, or my general fickle nature when it comes to cars).....
LIKES:
Front: I had reservations about the grille, but this latest iteration works well. Headlights look good too.
Side profile: Nothing ground breaking. Like new interpretation of H-kink. Classic BMW proportions.
Interior: Nice update. Initial perception has this looking like it has improved quality touches. iDrive7.0 looks to be my ideal HMI system with the right combo of screens, touchscreen and actual buttons/joystick/rotary dial.
ON THE FENCE:
Rear: I like the rear lights and the general clean appearance of the rear, but it's really way too reminiscient of Lexus RC and GS rear. I think if they'd made the smoked lens portion that houses the reverse light (thank goodness it's not on or below the bumper!) and turn signal (?) thinner, it'd give the rear a nice shot of dynamism.
DISLIKES:
Bumper corners: the non M-sport bumpers have that arrow-like black plastic trim and I find them ugly. Regarding the M-sport front bumper: press pics haven't been posted with the jagged-like chrome bit that I complained about in early posts with the compter-generated images, so my opinion is still out on that.
Interior: It's disapponting not seeing any trim on the door. Makes it look boring and cheapens the interior a bit.
Overall: As time has progressed, the cars in this segment that I've like or found interesting have started to fall out of my favor: The A4 bores me, as does the C-class. The IS, Q50, and TLX no longer can or could keep up. The F30 3er was still a pleasing design, but was long in the tooth. The only two cars in this segment that really piqued my interest are decidedly flawed: 1) the Alfa Giulia with it's slightly lower rent interior, questionable/inconclusive long-term reliability and the probable boulder-dropping resale value, and 2) the Volvo S60/V60, which is on a FWD-based chassis but otherwise looks to be great. This G20 3er, mostly by the virtue of being new with some great updates and features, is back on the top of the heap of cars I'd consider. The only thing that would solidify its ranking is to see how this drive, which I don't see BMW doing anything too drastic.
