3 Series (G20) [Official] BMW 3 Series (G20)

The seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range consists of the BMW G20 (sedan version) and BMW G21 (wagon version, marketed as 'Touring') compact executive cars. The G20/G21 has been in production since mid-October 2018 with a facelift in July 2022 and is often collectively referred to as the G20.
Looks better in the real-life photos, I'm liking the way they handle the styling elements on the side... but the front and back... m'eh.

edit:

If I had to rank 3-ers aesthetically, this would come before the E21. The E21 would be in last place.

It is gorgeous and it isn't just a shrunken version of the dullard/insipid looking 5-Series. The M Sport model is the one to get.

Looks like E46 & F30 had a baby, the G20 looks sharp!

For some reason I did not take to the facelift of the E46 over the original model. It's redesign was to blend in with the E65 7er. The less said about the Compact the better.

Thus far (meaning that my opinion is subject to change either because of new info, pics, or my general fickle nature when it comes to cars).....

LIKES:
Front: I had reservations about the grille, but this latest iteration works well. Headlights look good too.
Side profile: Nothing ground breaking. Like new interpretation of H-kink. Classic BMW proportions.
Interior: Nice update. Initial perception has this looking like it has improved quality touches. iDrive7.0 looks to be my ideal HMI system with the right combo of screens, touchscreen and actual buttons/joystick/rotary dial.

ON THE FENCE:
Rear: I like the rear lights and the general clean appearance of the rear, but it's really way too reminiscient of Lexus RC and GS rear. I think if they'd made the smoked lens portion that houses the reverse light (thank goodness it's not on or below the bumper!) and turn signal (?) thinner, it'd give the rear a nice shot of dynamism.

DISLIKES:
Bumper corners: the non M-sport bumpers have that arrow-like black plastic trim and I find them ugly. Regarding the M-sport front bumper: press pics haven't been posted with the jagged-like chrome bit that I complained about in early posts with the compter-generated images, so my opinion is still out on that.
Interior: It's disapponting not seeing any trim on the door. Makes it look boring and cheapens the interior a bit.

Overall: As time has progressed, the cars in this segment that I've like or found interesting have started to fall out of my favor: The A4 bores me, as does the C-class. The IS, Q50, and TLX no longer can or could keep up. The F30 3er was still a pleasing design, but was long in the tooth. The only two cars in this segment that really piqued my interest are decidedly flawed: 1) the Alfa Giulia with it's slightly lower rent interior, questionable/inconclusive long-term reliability and the probable boulder-dropping resale value, and 2) the Volvo S60/V60, which is on a FWD-based chassis but otherwise looks to be great. This G20 3er, mostly by the virtue of being new with some great updates and features, is back on the top of the heap of cars I'd consider. The only thing that would solidify its ranking is to see how this drive, which I don't see BMW doing anything too drastic.

Please give me a good profile picture, ok ok perfect !!
If that handsome and SuperSporty profile is not a complete WOW, I do not know what it is!!, is not a sedan is a 3 series all the way..

That reinterpretation of the Kink is pure glory, a breath of fresh air, I would like to see one with the chrome trim but no found any pic yet

Handsome car, my slight reservation is the tail lights, they look good but they furiously reminds me of something else. I particularly like the front bumper on the white one, it displays some new ideas that make sense and are neatly executed, something the germans are not good at.

looks like the interior is a step up in both material quality and design over the last two 3 series generations! Can't believe it took them that long. As expected, it looks the best with the M pack treatment. This could be a good replacement for my little aging GTI! Thanks BMW!

It may be slightly gauche to quote oneself, alas....

One thing I'd like to add after thinking about it: Of the 3 cars I'd consider in this segment, I said this would probably positioned at the number 1 position. Oddly though, it doesn't get me excited. The two other cars mentioned, the Giulia and the 60-series Volvo, are almost polar opposites in character. The Alfa, for this segment, is more "theatrical" while the Volvo is understated Scandanavian serenity. Both, IMO, are beautiful to look at and really play to the brand's value. The BMW is truly down the middle in its approach and also plays well to BMW's core values. It has a grown-up design and probably the most ergonomically sound interior in its class. It's all very expected because it's evolved. But it's not a bad thing, it just doesn't get me excited. An M-sport pack 330i sDrive would probably be the absolute Goldilocks in this segment, but its the most reasonable choice for those that wants something "safe" with a bit of an edge. As I write this I feel like I am simultaneously lauding its attributes and bemoaning it. From a rational point of view, it checks of many boxes, but I want to also partially appeal to my id.

I don't think I am doing a good job articulating my sentiments.
