2 Series [Official] BMW 2 Series (F22) Coupe

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
I really hope they show the third 2er model the four door Gran Coupe. Last word I heard it would first be shown as a concept car. But as a four dr built on the same chassis as the F20 so rear leg room is not great , adequate but not class leading. It still has the roofline although stretched of the Coupe. Internally there is great support for the car and they definitely see the potential against FWD competitors.

New car decision going to be made very difficult.

Which to choose? M235i GC, M235i Convertible or M2? Hmmmmmm!

Canada to Get Special M Performance 2 Series Model

In the wake of seeing the first xDrive 2 Series models on the streets, starting this summer, BMW Canada announces that they will be selling a special edition model of the new Coupe, available only for Canadians.

Named BMW M Performance Edition, the cars will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and xDrive guises, to appeal to every taste out there. All of them will be M235i models though.

So what’s so special about them? According to BMW Canada, they will be wearing the full M Performance
catalogue, from the aerodynamics kit (M Performance rear diffuser, black kidney grilles and carbon fiber front splitter) to the M Performance side skirts, M Performance exhaust system, Carbon Fiber mirror caps and BiColor 19” wheels.

So far so good. That’s not all though. They will also be dressed in either Black Sapphire or Melbourne Red, depending on your choice. Inside, Black Dakota leather upholstery will be available alongside black piano trims and satin chrome highlights.

Unfortunately, since this is a limited edition model, only 50 units will be built, therefore a considerable price increase is also in order. The cars fitted with manual transmissions will only be available with rear-wheel-drive and will start at CAD59,900.

The xDrive models are only available with the automatic 8-speed ZF gearbox and they are a bit more expensive, starting at CAD62,900.

Convertible fabric top looks as if not a single improvement has been made, seems like laziness. Smooth it out, and make the glass bigger, c'mon..

That rear window is pathetically small, the one on my z4 looks just as big.

BMW M2 Will Start Production in November 2015

If there’s one model everyone is waiting for from BMW, it’s the upcoming M2, the one that is supposed to take the M philosophy back to its roots. We’ve seen it testingon the road but all that early prototype showed us was bigger tires on the rear axle and a wider body than the one used by the M235i.

That gave us absolutely nothing new to work with. Sure, seeing a beefed up BMW M235i developed by the Motorsport division gave us goosebumps but that definitely isn’t enough. So, we started digging some more. After a lot of hard work we managed to get some interesting information.

One of our insiders tipped us off that the new M car based on the 2 Series will start production in November 2015 for the European markets and March 2016 for the US. Unfortunately for American aficionados, they’ll have to wait a little longer than Europeans to drive the new M2.

However, the joy was quickly overshadowed by the second piece of news we received. The end of production is scheduled for October 2018. That would mean that either that’s when it will get a facelift or that’s when it will go out of production forever. If that’s the case, the M2 could be built in a limited number, just like the 1M Coupe before it. We strongly doubt that though.

If the 380 HP little coupe filled with madness will start deliveries in early 2016, it would fit perfectly with the celebration of BMW’s centenary and it would make it the company’s gift to the fans of the brand. Furthermore, we’ll get to see the concept unveiled somewhere in early 2015 or late 2014. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for Detroit!

For information i've read in a german magazine that the M2 should be priced around 7000EUR more than a M235i (50500EUR vs. 43750EUR)

I would expect even a bit more ...
Why? Because afaik this was already the price of the 1M Coupe 3 years ago ... and since I expect the upcoming M2 to top the 1M in every aspect, a little price increase is quite fair... ;)

2014 BMW 2 Series Earns Top Safety Pick + Rating from IIHS

When the small overlap crash test was first introduced by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the US, most manufacturers were taken by surprise of how bad their cars performed.

Testing to see how the vehicles would perform in case they hit another car or an obstacle with only 25 percent of their bodies, the new simulation proved to be pretty hard to ace. At first, everyone struggled but today, we’re seeing pretty big advancements from everyone (ok, maybe excepting the Chinese).

The last model to go through the IIHS testing sequence was BMW’s own 2014 2 Series. Fortunately, the new Coupe earned the institute’s Top Safety Pick + rating, which is the highest a car could get.

Scoring good results in all categories (small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, head restraints and seats), the car was deemed safe for all sorts of crashes. It was even rated advanced in front crash prevention with optional equipment. The driver’s assistant package must’ve had something to say here.

The system automatically brakes if it detects you’re getting too close to the car in front of you, therefore either reducing the speed dramatically or even bringing you to a complete standstill, depending on the situation.

It's wort notinh that we couldn’t help but cringe seeing that three beautiful, brand new 228i cars were being crushed in the IIHS' attempt to see how they would handle a possibly tragic situation. However, it’s best to see a couple of them turned to piles of scrap metal than lose one human life.

I drove the 235i around a mountain today. It's probably the most fun for the money. The design is great... also the size. Love the new BMW iDrive system. Makes the Mercedes' command look idiotic.

I wish they'd finished the interior with some more upscale trimmings. If I could option one with nappa leather I'd probably buy it.

Yep, without question the best* non M car in the BMW line-up!

*best looking and best driving

BMW M235i Sounds Like a Wounded Beast with Armytrix’s Valvetronic Exhaust

The guys from Armytrix are up to great things these days. After releasing a very interesting video with their new Valvetronic exhaust for the F30 335i, they’ve done it again, this time with the M235i.
The car we had the pleasure of reviewing ourselves and that was given a score of 98 out of 100 by Consumer Reports this week, was turned into an amazing beast. Actually, we’d like to see someone complaining about its sound now, with this new tone it has.

While we were testing the new M Performance Automobile we actually liked the way it sounded. It had a deep growl that wasn’t too loud, in the lower RPM band, when driven around town, to do chores, for example. When taken up to 6,000 RPM it would become a lot louder with an enthralling burble when upshifting. That would be enough for us.

For some people, more is always better. That’s where Armytrix’s system steps is. Fitted with control valves at the back, the system allows you to adjust just how loud your car should be. When you’re coming home at 5 in the morning, you can be as quiet as a mouse. When you want to impress someone, you’ll go full beast mode at the flick of a button.

In the video below you can see exactly what we mean by ‘beast mode’. Unfortunately, at the moment, we don’t have a video showing how the sound’s like inside the car and how the drone acts up but the guys promised us that they will post some new videos ASAP so stay tuned!
