The front is just too ostentatious.

It reminds me of the Nautilus Car in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Hmm .....that's a little bit too critical ;) That Nautilus car should become the new Presidential Limousine if Trump wins ......it is about as tasteful as his Trump Tower apartment.

This is still my favorite ultimate luxury car. I just can't get over that they've given it a facelift. For some silly reason I didn't think they would ever change it. Question though, how do the fellow Mulsanne fans feel about Bentley giving this car a version of the W12? Say with like 650hp?

The W12 is a very characterless engine, which is why Bentley opted to continue with 6.75L after R&D testing the Mulsanne with the engine of the then GT Speed.

With 811 lb-ft torque @ 1750 rpm (!) being available until 3200rpm, the 6.75-Litre has locomotive power delivery with minimal lag. The W12 on the other hand, when you press the throttle, there's a second lag due to a dated engine management system and old school turbo lag in certain conditions.

He seemed to have liked it. Got in on both rear seats, and brought quite an entourage of MB folks with him to check it out. :)
Getting some more ideas like the Bentley-style air vents in the S class :D

However, Bentley appears to have taken some ideas from Mercedes like those folding trays we first saw in the Maybach ;)

I don't like the facelift, they went over the top with the new grill, this isn't a Rolls Royce, it's a Bentley. And no to the W12, the Mulsanne is all about that V8, it's a beast of an engine, it has history, it's what makes the Mulsanne the Mulsanne, remove it and the car is just another VAG product.

WTH ... they made it too ornamental. Now it looks totally kitschy & rococo-ish. But I guess such look does appeal to some who love overly ornamental "old luxury".

Can't be outdone by the bling bling of an S65 AMG now can they?

My God .......they've really fvcked it up.
I don't like quoting my own posts but in this instance I felt the need to.

Apart from my desire to redact that post due to the use of bad language, I also have somewhat changed my opinion ;)

I have looked at this facelift several times over the past week and as I've become more familiar with it, I've grown to like it more and more.

Lol, well I don't see much connection with the Rococo in terms of design style ;) (I know you didn't mean it literally).

The funny thing is The Rococo was a new, playful, style that was fashionable during the reign of King Louis XV in the 1730s. It was in many ways a reaction against the overbearing formality and grandeur of high Baroque during the reign of Louis XIV. (That is him in my avatar btw)

Back on topic Tine:), do you really think it is "overly ornamental"? I think it is a very fine balance between traditional and contemporary styling. The vehicle has enormous presence and dignity. It is probably the most aristocratic luxury car in the world today.

Bentley Mulsanne First Edition revealed for Beijing debut

Bentley is making the Mulsanne even more posh by introducing a First Edition at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show.

Based on the facelifted Mulsanne which debuted last month in Geneva, the First Edition adds several interior embellishments, such as the tailor-made Mulliner sterling silver vanity kit inlaid into the rear picnic table. Created by Asprey of London, the set bundles a vanity mirror, hair brush, and a comb which can all be neatly stored in the bespoke picnic table made by Mulliner.

In addition, there are a bunch of “First Edition” accents throughout the cabin, like the special tread plates, a diametric overlay on the rear seat picnic tables, and Union Jack-inspired seat embroidery. To make it even more special, Bentley will offer its flagship model in First Edition guise with a special “Flying B” hood ornament and a champagne cooler.

Bentley has plans to sell only 50 units of the Mulsanne “First Edition” which will be available across the three-model family: regular Mulsanne, the hotter Mulsanne Speed, and the ultra-luxurious Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase (EWB).

At the Beijing Auto Show which kicks off tomorrow, Bentley will have on display the EWB First Edition featuring a ripple-patterned Fulbeck veneer from a 350-year-old English walnut tree. Bentley bought the rare wood at an auction for an “undisclosed record price” particularly for the car. As for the other First Edition units, those will come with an Antique Ash veneer.

Joining the stretched Mulsanne in Beijing will be the Flying Spur V8 S, the latest addition to the Flying Spur family which celebrated its world premiere in Geneva last month. In addition, Bentley is also bringing a one-off Bentayga by Mulliner with a special veneer set showing the mountain scenery from where the high-end SUV got its name. Specifically for this one-off, the Crewe-based Mulliner team was in charge of making more than 30 individual pieces from 10 different veneers.
