Bentayga [Official] Bentley Bentayga

The Bentley Bentayga is a luxury SUV produced by British marque Bentley Motors. Introduced in late 2015, it is the brand's first luxury crossover SUV.
Dude, G class has three locking differentials and excellent low range. There are two cars on the market that you could compare with it in terms of offroad capability - Wrangler Rubicon and Toyota 71/76. So fancy Bentley close to G for offroad? No way.

Defender is better offroader than Range, still it is worse offroader than G (even though I respect Defender).

You are seriously underestimating the Range Rover's cababilities DjordjeC63.

I realize on this forum it is virtually a thought crime to question the absolute supremacy of the G-Wagen. I have not said the Bentayga or Range Rover are better than the G (off road) ....but they certainly can match it.

In certain situations, I absolutely agree. And it's worth noting the RR has some advantages such as a higher wading depth.

I'm not sure what you mean by "certain situations".

I would challenge anyone here to find a review that shows the G class is unquestioningly superior to the Range-Rover off-road. Comparison reviews of the previous model Range-Rover put it ahead of the G.
(Review: Mercedes G-Class vs Range Rover)

What is undeniable is the love most reviewers have for the G despite its flaws. it is a genuine classic with a lot of charm and character. It is almost universally the favourite off-road SUV.
I have no doubt the new G class will reset the benchmark for off-road ability.

Do you go off-roading? It won't take you very long to find situations in which the G-wagen's compact size and overhangs produce favorable situations in comparison to the Range Rover. It's the same reason Jeep Wranglers are able to wiggle through some seriously daunting situations. Don't let the RR off road demo drives completely fool you.

That's what I mean by certain situations. I'm not biased- I've owned both.

I have only been off-roading a couple of times so I am not experienced at it. I certainly appreciate the advantage of the G class' narrowness in certain situations, which makes me wonder why are Mercedes making the new model a lot wider than the current model (n)
Only a couple of reviews I've seen were really critical of the G class; most reviewers forgive its lack of refinement because it is such a unique vehicle. My initial point was the Bentayga is a fully capable off-road vehicle that can hold its own against the G class - but we know it is very unlikely the Bentayga would ever be used for serious off-reading.

Look, setting up a G63 AMG as an off-road contender is a deliberate handicapping of the boggo G-Class which is surely one of the very very best true off-roaders. The standard G350 sits at the the top of the Land Cruiser, Defender, Wrangler crowd. The Range Rover is NO comparison. It's the easiest thing in the world to engineer an off-road track to play to the strengths of either car in a controlled situation but when it comes to true rugged capability it's a completely different set of attributes which come into play in order to produce consistent results over varied terrain, time and time again.

If anything the Bentayga is somewhat closer to the Range Rover which, in turn, is some way off the gigantic off-road ability of a G350. Three locking diffs, huge ground clearance on STEEL springs (ask the multitude of Disco owners who have suffered air suspension failures in Botswana) with excellent approach, break over and departure angles - the G-Class is on an entirely different level of ability versus the Bentayga.

As such, the Bentayga should have comparisons drawn with Range Rover whenever the (far less important) considerations of off-road ability are brought into the fray.

Oh yes, no argument on that. For 'proper' day-to-day utilitarian off-roading it is unlikely anybody would choose a Range-Rover. The Land Rover Defender, Toyota Landcruiser, and the Mercedes-Benz G350d are the ones you would take on Safari (the Wrangler's carrying payload is too low to carry a lot of extra fuel on board for long-distance travelling). For this reason it is important that the new G class retains the very mechanical engineering it is famous for. The more electronics it relys on (like the R-R), the more there is to go wrong.

The thing is, I have not seen a single review that rates the G class better than the Range Rover - obviously, they are judging them as recreational off-roaders. Most reviewers say the G class is more fun and they love its looks.

I have seen real life reviews at offroad competitions. And from a friend that owned Defender and 300GD and currently G300TD.

My (annoyingly keep up with the Jones'-esque) neighbors traded in their Range Rover for a Bentayga and invited me over to check it out...

Didn't want to be rude, so I pretended that I wasn't fully are aware that it's just a glitzed up Audi Q7. I was given an extensive tour and a ride around the block like they were salesmen. Spent most of the time rolling my eyes when they showing off x feature.

The interior is nice, I'll give it that.

I live on a block where most have a some sort of S Class or Rover, I'm kinda of hoping it stays that way as I see more and more Bentaygas around town. At least the S and Rover are what they are.

With nondescript wheels it looks even more basic:

It's just plain ugly and a missed opportunity IMO. If Rolls gets theirs right, they'll OWN this thing.

Sounded like a fun experience. How was the ride and overall refinement compare to the S class or the Range Rover?

Should ask them why didn't they get the Berlinting watch on the dashboard.

Why would anyone put such cheap and dated looking (probably cheap) wheels on the car?

Objectively speaking, the ride is superb and silent. Noticeably smoother than a RR, then again I'm riding on 22". Comparable to the S Class? I don't think so.

What's really underwhelming is that feels like you're sitting in any large crossover.. there's no commanding front view.

The interior is also very snug compared to what the exterior suggests. Reminds me of a Cayenne in that regard.

Should ask them why didn't they get the Berlinting watch on the dashboard.

Honestly, I doubt they're even aware of the option. They're not really car people, they just gravitate to the latest on the market. Therefore, I have to tone down my cynicism when we discuss cars.

Well I hope your neighbours don't see what you've written sako97 ;)

It actually looks quite good in white. I'm not a fan of the vomit-colour wood though.

However, you comment about it being "just a glitzed up Audi Q7" is silly and you know it.
This is no more an Audi Q7 than the Rolls-Royce Ghost is a BMW 7er. They share a platform but they are worlds apart by nearly every other measure.
