I said, "No, I like it. I like it. It's good." She said, "You like it now, but you'll learn to love it later". (Robbie Robertson)
That's how I feel about this car. It's getting better and better, the more I see it, the more I like it.

God...now Audi is chroming the alloys to create some interest.

Honestly, the front is fine. But the glasshouse, side profile and rear already look dated in photos. Perhaps it's another story in person? Has anyone had the chance yet to view it in the flesh? What are your impressions?

I really really really want to like this A4.

In terms of the cars' exterior, it is the stance that impresses most. In the metal, noticably wider and more "hunkered down" than its' German competitors. Even in non-sporting specifications. Otherwise very clean, minimalistic and alas, rather undramatic. Interior: exquisite-save the somewhat aesthetically awkward fixed screen.

Agree on all accounts Jimmy. Interesting how the much bandied-about "safe approach" can yield such a successful outcome as a result of attention to detail.

If the silhouette is overly familiar - there's nothing wrong at all with Audi's sedan silhouette below the A8 by the way - it's the little things that give the surprise and delight factor. I'd written the B9 off prior to its official release based on an assumption around a lack of design direction. As soon as I saw the official pics, I knew I was wrong.

In my opinion the interior is streaks ahead of the you-either-like-it-or-not baroque interior on the C-Class and the disappointingly unimproved F30 LCI interior. That interior is that good.
My business partners have an aversion toward Audi so the likelihood of me getting a B9 as the next company car is rather low. Pity.

Audi's line-up all-stars:
A3, A4, TT
and misfires:
Q7 and R8

So the new A4 will debut with the new diesel engine (190hp) or the new modified 150hp engine from the current VW Passat?
dtd

I just can't get over the front lights. They look like they were created by a kid trying to rapidly cut a straight line with scissors.

I've been pouring through some of the 'live' photos from the Frankfurt Motorshow now available online, and I think I'm going to be eating my words when I see this car in the flesh...:censored:

Agreed, it's really rather good. Typical German and IMO beyond the C class in most aspects.

Indeed, nice photos of the manual configuration! To me, the B9 cockpit is sleek and oozes "German precision". And - in contrast to the C-Class - it doesn't need automatic transmission to look good...

True but in defense of the C class; nobody buys that car with stick shift. Most MB drivers wouldn't even know how to operate it ;)

In terms of the cars' exterior, it is the stance that impresses most.

The stance is like an FWD car, sorry bro. It is what it is, both the C and 3er do it better, being RWD.

Haha let's not push it Klier.

I love the C-class. It's the perfect Mercedes take on the sports executive with a luxury bent. The new A4 is quintessentially Audi and thus has it's own unique appeal, and the BMW 3-series has the BMW DNA distilled to perfection. You can't go wrong with either of the 3 Germans now. You can have your preference, but there is no clear victor anymore.

It seems BMW is the one that drives the best, the MB the most comfortable one, and the Audi the one with the best interior.

It's actually looking rather lovely in these walk arounds. It's not exciting thats for sure, but its chiseled, beautifully detailed and impeccably assembled. Audi does itself a complete disservice with the crappy as hell CGI's they use for press releases.

LOL. You know I'm a closet Audi fan. It's telling I've owned more Audi's than MB's. :love::love::love:

I sat in the Q7 yesterday for the first time yesterday. While the exterior is little better in person, the interior is mightily impressive. I drove mum's C there so I could get some direct comparative impressions. The C's interior is swoopy and elegant, whereas the Audi design theme is very technical. They are both finished beautifully, but the Audi seems to have a more 'solid' construction as you thump around and prod and poke.

Its nice, i like the interior.. i really do love the new speedo/nav screen thingy.

But then again i want something new at audi, this is very nice but familiar.
They are telling us that the new A8 will usher in a new era of Audi design.
Im excited to say the least:)

I sat in both the Audi TT and Q7 at the Qatar show and their dynamic instrument displays are truly impressive. Their interior design is not flashy or expensive looking (as compared to the Rolls, Bentley or S-class) but constructed of impeccably solid and nice feeling materials with wonderful attention to detail. The TT might look slightly sombre looking as it has a mostly black dash with only slight brightwork but the way they have designed the controls (such as the AC temp on the vents) look so unique and classy and work with such click click precision is hugely impressive. The Q7 has a fantastic infotainment centre screen with brilliant graphics and seemed quite straight forward to use. The seats were soft and comfortable and the car has huge space. The only thing I did not find appealing is that it looks too much like an A6 interior with only the air vents (running across the entire dash) been different.

I would rate Mercedes interior been on par quality wise with Audi now. Both have advantage and disadvantages over each other. The Mercedes C-class has nicer looking and feeling air vents; speaker covers and switches than both Audi models but the Q7 has better material used for Center console between the seats, less plasticky than the Merc and it's Center screen looks much better than the C-class.

Mostly agree with you Rolf. Mercedes does need to work on the A/c control unit in the C. While it looks good, the tactile feedback of those buttons is simply not on par with the rest of the switchgear. Theres also a slight 'creakiness' to it when you prod hard on it and on the surrounding trim. This is not evident in the Q7 interior where every module and trim surround seems rock solid, but it was evident in the BMW's I have looked at lately, F30 LCI included.

Unfortunately it looks like the E-class is getting the same A/c control unit as the C.

Audi A4 Allroad rendered prior to next year debut
The new Audi A4 Allroad is expected to debut sometime next year but we already have a pretty good idea how it could look like thanks to new renderings from Theophilus Chin.

The German company is working on a new member of the A4 family that will likely be revealed at one of the big auto shows next, probably in Geneva or Paris. The vehicle will follow in the footsteps of its bigger Allroad brother, the A6 Allroad.

What we’ve got here is the virtual A4 Allroad project of our friend Theophilus Chin, which, naturally, is based on the A4 Avant. Theo has added jacked up suspension, plastic body cladding, slightly bigger wheels, different bumpers and new exhaust pipes layout - a well-tested recipe for Allroad models.

In addition to a standard permanent all-wheel drive system, the vehicle will get the more powerful engines of the A4, so expect the 2.0 TFSI with 190 PS and 252 PS, the 2.0 TDI with 150 PS and 190 PS and the range-topping 3.0 TDI with 218 PS and 272 PS.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
