The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

Epic that the electric boost can be used throughout the rev range. The hp and torque are god like for a GT. We have moved on from 900-1000nm torque limits to protect gearboxes.

That’s because the added torque does not go through the main transmission (that’s what you may be referring).

All good, but the weight is probably over 2200kg...
I am “dying” to learn the actual weight of this model and the eventual GT with this setup. How comfortable are we with a roadster/sports car weighing more than a regular S Class.

Same way we'll have to be ok with SUVs weighing more than busses.

Reality: Nobody is gonna buy them. They probably exist to pad out Merc's car range, so they can meet fleet emissions standards.

There will be some people who will buy this mainly to massage their egos. however people in the know will understand what this car isn’t and walk away. For that money a 911 turbo S please or an Artura/ Maserati MC20 or even a McLaren GT. I bet most of them are faster too

Does a Tesla 3 dual motor compare? It also has a short wheelbase and weighs as much as the moon. Not going to lie, heavy fast cars are not fun to drive especially in hard cornering

And yet people want them.
Primarily because they want the speed for motorways, and will never drive it in anger around a back road in their life.

Most people who buy fast sports car just bimble about at the speed limit in traffic and maybe do a few hard accelerations here and there.

As per JESMB the new SL63 E-Performance is 225kg heavier than the 1970kg SL63, so its 2195Kg approx.

It's so interesting how MB Germany must be managing supplies of inventory. It has a 6 month wait list here, albeit most buyers want to specify their cars themselves and we don't have the population to have masses of dealer specced vehicles sitting around ready to buy.

The AMG GT has put the SL to sleep.

The numbers the SL43 pulls off in the Car&Driver article are impressive, to say the least. For an entry-level model, it is too expensive but this is the price you pay for owning a true AMG-engineered vehicle.
It's the perfect combo for those older, retired well-established folks who don`t want a screaming high-powered, V8.
I agree the 6 would have been better.
