The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

That group of buyers doesn’t exist and/or weren’t buying anymore. That is why the SL had to evolve. This car is a joke for the price. A 4 cylinder in a high end car is just plain wrong, especially in a SL.

It's the perfect combo for those older, retired well-established folks who don`t want a screaming high-powered, V8.
So, when you achieve everything in life, you aspire to have the worst?!?!
Where do you get a statement like that from?

It would not surprise me if they replace it with the updated 6 in a refresh. I imagine the sales of the SL are gonna be horrifying poor.

I mean there are people who aspire to a Civic Type R or a GR Yaris which have small engines.

There's nothing wrong with the M139L as an engine. It just doesn't belong in a $100k+ SL

I won`t even bother responding to such a nonsense statement you posted.
obviously, you have taken what I posted out of context.

The SL is quite possibly the best car in its class right now.
The only niggle folks have with the 43 model is the 4-cylinder engine. In the future, don`t quote me if you are going to spin what I posted in another direction without reading it correctly and keeping things in context.

It was not my intention to bother you, nor do I think I took anything out of context, it was what I understood from what you posted and basically established an extension request as to why someone with everything solved in life (as you described), would aspire to have the worst of the line and not the best, I don't imagine such a scenario exists

Calling it the "worst" is trashing it and its merits as an SL. This is taking things out of context.
I have already made my point about the 43 model in my post above and why some older buyers, particularly older women might choose it instead of the screaming V8 versions. No need for me to repeat that.

Not even their flagship cars.....no wonder they make so many profits.

"Orange peel"
"The worst paint on a car I have ever seen"
"Very poor quality paint", etc.
"Poorly made vehicle in general"

Likewise, I really like the interior, like the first day, the 911 doesn't even have it to begin with, but I think that quality would be decisive in cars like this

The other thing I notice from seeing the tests all over YouTube is that no one loves it completely or unconditionally like the SLs once loved.....

I think you should question why BMW can't make a car like this. Stop doing smear campaigns with unnecessary criticism.
Does the 8 series convertible sound familiar to you?
Say it to those at Throttle House, it seems that the SL doesn't need me to discredit itself, it does it well on its own

The SL has been declining in popularity for decades.
Nobody wants a luxury grand touring convertible. Which is why they tried to turn it into a 2+2 drop top sports car.
Just not as well as they could have. I think this car very much needs a facelift. Particularly in the interior.

This makes no sense
Maybe I got lost in the translation, I like the interior of the SL, since I saw it and until today,
The interior of the 911 does not seem attractive to me, it is very repetitive and a bit boring, but quality weighs a lot when choosing this type of car IMO

All kinds of QC "issues" or whatever "issues". It affects everyone even Porsche.
From what is seen in the video, I am referring to the quality of assembly and certain materials, paint and parts that move when they should be solid, those things for which they do not call you to a recall

Get a used S class Cabrio. Or an LC500

You and I are unfortunately a dying breed. Nowadays everyone wants all of the things in one. They want a Luxury Coupe Sports Super SUV.
So we have to deal with the homonculus-mobiles, instead of getting wonderful classy coupes and cabrios.

They want a Luxury Coupe Sports Super SUV.
Yes, I would remove the coupes, they want it "only" in 4 doors,
What you say and the fact that it spread to all segments (no more 2 door hatches for example), is it due to a loss of individualism in people?...it is like an intense and incomprehensible change
instead of getting wonderful classy coupes and cabrios.
There must be more than one study on this in car brands headquarters, perhaps no one knows why and they just adapt to change, In the USA one day the tourings stopped being popular, in Great Britain the little English rooadster died and years later a Japanese one was born, we will see what happens next
