SL-Class (R232) [Official] All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

The Mercedes-Benz R232 is the seventh generation of the SL-Class roadster. It succeeds both the R231 and the GT R190 (roadster). Presented in October 2021, the R232 was an AMG model only, until the introduction of the Mercedes-Maybach SL in August 2024. Production: March 2022-

The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

Giant Test: 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL63 R232 vs. 2023 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet 992

The Turbo does not track as stoically as the SL, but it tells a more colourful story and keeps adding fresh nuances to a wild ride, whereas the Mercedes starcruiser is ultimately less exciting. Rural roads showcase the Turbo’s finely honed handling talents, the seamless car-driver interaction, and the all-important quality of the flow; it’s this flow that defines the 911. The Turbo steers like a scalpel, not merely like a sharp knife. It dances like a faun along the ridge of adhesion rather than merely straddling it.
The Mercedes does not lag far behind at all. It is less involving, but the margin is small. Its actions and reactions are somewhat less precise and immediate; we’re talking minor gradations. It rides better than the Porsche, except at low speed and over rough undulations.

Many complain about the road noise the 911 makes even for a sportscar. They need to reduce it.
Sl will be more comfortable.

AMG have played a fine line between sportiness and comfort with this new SL. It may not be the most dynamic convertible to drive in this class or maybe even the most comfortable as in older SL models but it does seem to have many journalists confused where its supposed to be, in the sport car zone or in the GT zone.

Solution: The car should not have worn an AMG badge.

It is an S500 cabrio in drag.

^Not true at all. The SL is not a "run of the mill" Mercedes.
The new SL is engineered from the ground up by AMG and the SL is right where it needs to be with its position in the lineup and its clientele base. It is not overly sporty as a Porsche but it is a step up from the previous generation in sportiness.

According to this, it's better than I expected, whenever you put a car head to head with the 911 turbo the masks fall off, this does not seem to be the case, fulfilling the SL's goal of being sportier and with great handling, also as cruiser.

*Well, I wish the Panmericana mask had fallen off along with those front lights that, next to the Porsche, are more in evidence of their little resistance to the passage of time, they are all over the line and get boring fast, they are not so "epic" as to the SL
It is not that it has to be epic either, the SL caste has always shown stylized sobriety in the lights, that must be what I do not see here

The SL is not a S Cabrio in drag. My goodness. Total left field nonsense.

Lateral cornering of 1.04g is definitely not an S500 in drag, that is supercar cornering from the SL63 and even better than the BMW M8 Comp coupe (1.03g). It has a higher top speed than the M8 Comp also (196mph vs 189mph)
