Giulia [Official] Alfa Romeo Giulia

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a compact executive car produced by Alfa Romeo. Known internally as the Type 952, it was unveiled in June 2015, with market launch scheduled for February 2016, and it is the first saloon offered by Alfa Romeo after the production of the 159 ended in 2011.
A mix of emotions right now...

Those 5 Quadrifoglios (I guess they dropped the "Verde") are just frickin' sexy, there's really no two ways about that. The perfomance figures look staggering, as does the price.

Now the elephant in the room (or this particular thread).... where the heck are the non-Quad versions of the Giulia? I, along with many of you here, have waited all summer for some more info that weren't rumors. I don't know if I am over-reacting, but I can't help feeling that there's a some lack of confidence. All their chatter is regarding the big-guns Giulia, which despite being pretty darn wicked, is not going to be the trim to line their coffers. I get that things are still being tested and are nor finalized, but at least getting one model on the floor with some info would be nice. They can reveal more info at subsequent shows/press releases, but show something.

I don't want to be negative because it's great that there's a proper RWD Alfa sedan now. But I can't help be pretty disappointed right now.

The normal versions will debut at Geneva

interesting...At one point the journalist says: I spoke with them and they confirmed that the double clutch (should be 7 speed) is standard while the manual is optional (minute 8:27).To be confirmed since the press release doesn't mention anything about.

Too many poorly fit cables and hoses all over the place, though.

Seriously who cares? As long as it works. Most engines look like that anyways when they don't have giant plastic covers over them. Look at a Lexus IS-F with no engine cover for example:

When I seen them all wrapped up outside the hall last week I was hoping we would see the entry models because in the end that is what they need to sell. I think it was a mistake not showing these in Frankfurt, but roll on Geneva.

Definitely. I think they captured lightning in a bottle in June. They could have capitalized on that by introducing the other Giulias now. The next best option would be to introduce them mid-November at LA, and maybe some simultaneous event in China to emphasize their global aspiration. Releasing in Geneva is essentially 6 months from now.

Faster than a GT3 on the ring is a pretty bold claim. I really hope Alfa don't disappoint, I truly want this car to succeed.

Sorry! What a ridicously move from Alfa
Comparing the lap time of a factory test driver (which normally is not only a professional driver but also has hundreds of laps with the car under his belt) with lap times of amateur level (quite good amateur of course) drivers! The displayed times of the compared cars are those of Horst von Saurma, who is the journalist of german SportAuto from his Supertests. He does about 4 laps on the Ring with those cars ... the best lap time of those few laps is then published!
For comparison: Chief test driver Timo Kluck of Porsche did 7:37 with a 400hp 991 Carrera S! With a GT3 he is in the 7:2x. So what a crap to post such times by Alfa! Nobody knows the top times BMW M factory drivers were able to achieve with an F8x! On a sidenote: Did Alfa even state with which tyres the laptime has been recorded?

Ridicolous?Alfa didn't compare anything in their Press release. They just declared something as many other manufacturers did in the past.People as you and me are comparing the Ring times, and sorry but they are official so what can be done by Alfa?
So let compare some pro Ring times..
I think that a much heavier Giulia (sure not less than 1570 kg at the end, you will see, since the declared weight I am sure, is a dry weight) with a pro driver and 7:39 at Ring is not less impressive than a Porsche sport car as the last 991 Carrera S which was very impressive, (1415 kg so about "155" kg less and just 1,1 sec faster than Giulia) piloted by a pro and official factory driver.Or if you prefer we can compare a sedan as Giulia, with the last 991 GT3 with the same Porsche pro Driver (14 sec slower but 150 kg heavier).. .Still very very impressive I think.Or what about a sedan just about 10 sec slower than a Porsche Carrera Gt piloted by a pro driver as Marc Basseng? or what about a sedan if you prefer, 7 sec slower than a 530 hp Porsche Turbo piloted by Walter Rohrl or 8 sec by the 997 Gt2 with the same Top pilot on board?or why not compare Giulia with the previous 997 GT3 MKII piloted by Walter Rohrl ?Porsche in this case was one sec "slower" than Giulia...How can't you be impressed by these facts?and btw Horst von Saurma has not to be under evaluated in my personal opinion..He knows the Ring better than many others..

....
So, who did present those ring laptimes? Wasn't it Alfa? If it was Alfa, this is an deliberately unfair comparison! Without giving any background this implies, that those times have been taken on a comparable level, which is not the case! And speaking about Horst von Saurma: He himself is saying, that his performance with a certain car IS NOT COMPARABLE with what factory drivers can achieve. And he tells that exactly this is the idea of the Supertest: Showing what a good amateur driver, which has not that much time to get used to the car really well, can do with it. He directly says that there are obviously cars, which are easier to drive, which are obviously favored by his test.
If you want read this read his article about the history of his supertest.
So I stay with my argument: it is ridicously if a manufacturer compares the best laptime his own professional testdriver can produce with laptimes done by a motor journalist, who just drives few laps and EXPLICITLY says that his times are not comparable to factory driver results! And on top of that is in no way mentioning this essential difference in this comparison and therefore giving false impressions for the uninformed audience.

beleive me I really don't want you change your position.Do you think Alfa is ridicolous and made all these comparaisons you are describing?no problem...I respect you. What I remember is just a sentence during their presse conference :7.39 Ring time..But probably they explicitely mentioned BMW M4...or other manfacturers or Saurma and I simply missed them..so you could be right..Alfa shame on you...:-)

All manufacturers quote lap times with factory drivers under perfect conditions. Why can't Alfa? It's just to show what this car is capable of in the right hands and clearly it's capable of a lot. I'm a German car fan by heart but the Giulia is one hell of a kit. Also show me one manufacturer that wouldn't be proud of a 7:39 min on the Ring even if Jesus himself was at the wheel.
