718 Boxster/Cayman (982) [Official] 718 Boxster, Cayman GTS 4.0

The Porsche 982 is the internal designation of the fourth generation Boxster/Cayman (third generation Cayman) made by Porsche. The two models have been marketed as the Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman. Production: 2016–2025
So that is one, and some other hundreds on Rennlist. A drop of water in the ocean.
But why does this have to be about people on the internet. I've got quite a few friends with 981s and one or two with 982s. None of them would order a GTS if it only came in manual. This discussion is about them - the real buyers.

Just as the number of 86/BRZ owners which are happy with 'no torque', compared to the all cry no buy internet crowd.
Ironically, when I was looking for that 3rd weekend toy, I thought quite a bit about the 86/BRZ and kept thinking "if only Subaru made this thing in proper STI guise with a decent turbo engine - I'd be there in a flash".
I had to end up spending quite a bit more on an older car to get the numbers I feel are vital to me being satisfied as a driver. And guess what, I could do with more! I can't imagine how disappointed I'd be with an 86.

I foresee that this GTS 4.0 is going to reinvigorate the 718 range substantially for Porsche. The driving purists are going to go there in droves. Manual and PDK. For me, PDK is a no brainer - especially if the manual box has those same loooong ratios.

Friend of my father runs our local Porsche dealership. And I asked him about manual and PDK. He said to him PDK is no brainer. Especially with GT3. Everyone is raving about a manual GT3, but he said the PDK suits the car so much better. That mostly this manual gearbox raving is total BS in his opinion. And he runs Porsche dealership for more than 10 years...

Absolutely agree with you. The notion of a manual GT3 being better than a PDK version is romaticised nonsense pedalled by old farts like me who think they deserve a Noddy badge for their fancy footwork.
I would never get a 991 GT3 in a manual over PDK. PDK is better and does more justice to that spectacular engine than any human can. I don't care who they are.

I'm really not sure if I'd ever go back to a manual.

I think a manual selection for most old farts (like me) would be based on nostalgia and to yield a more engaging experience for every day driving (not at performance limits). It sure seems like it's only a matter of time before manuals are a thing of the past.

I hope they will drop this engine in the next S model as well and only keep the 4-cylinder for the base model.

Fingers crossed this will happen. However I recon that some buyers who use their 981 as a daily for commuting and mundane driving rather than carving corners in aspen, like the usability of the low end torque. It's a shame that a turbo:ed 6 cylinder doesn't fit in the car, but let's not kid ourselves, the NA 6 cylinder is not torque deficient.

Of course automatic is a no brainer in todays cars. It does not make it better, just obvious.

PDK is a must in this car if the gears are that tall, even if they aren't its a must for me.
Even the GT4 i would take it, one of the main reasons i dropped my april build may delivery on the spyder.

Have to say on thing though that damn gear lever feels like cocking a rifle, the throw is so short and wonderful.
But what’s the use of you get to touch it a few times during a drive a shame.
Also for those perplexed over the tall gearing it has been explained that due to the NA engine it needs taller gears to pass emissions. Don’t know if that’s bs or not.

I've heard the same thing and it's the only rational reason for it.

What a beautiful location and the photos are more than great, much better than normally seen. Do you know where it is and who took it?
This one in particular has it all:
