Some extra models have been launched, including the new range topping 700PS E-Hybrid Turbo S and a new entry level 330PS RWD model.
FACELIFT PORSCHE PANAMERA & PANAMERA SPORT TURISMO
New top model Turbo S E-Hybrid gets 700 PS
The facelift of the second Panamera generation started with the new model variants 4S E-Hybrid and Turbo S. Now Porsche is adding two more hybrid models and the 4S with biturbo V6.
S pätestens in the second generation model, the Panamera has become a mainstay in the model range of Porsche. Four years after the market launch, the manufacturer has given the series an update that makes the sedan, the "Executive" long version and the Sport Turismo fit for the second half of their life cycle.
The optical modifications are rather minor. In the future, all model versions will receive the previously optional Sport Design front. It can be recognized by an LED light strip for parking lights and indicators. At the rear, the revised Panamera differs from its predecessor with a continuous LED light bar. So far, the big Porsche has had a small gap in the light spectacle.
The exterior changes are completed by three new alloy wheels in 20 and 21 inch formats and two new paint options. Unless you choose the new Panamera Turbo S, whose front apron is set apart from the rest of the model range with larger air inlets and a two-line LED light bar.
New Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid with 700 PS
The Turbo S, which was newly introduced with the facelift, has a four-liter twin-turbo V8 with 630 hp and will be replaced as the top model by the new Turbo S E-Hybrid. Porsche combines the eight-cylinder, which now produces 571 hp instead of the previous 550 hp, with a 100 kW (136 hp) electric motor. With the battery capacity increased from 14.1 to 17.9 kWh for all hybrid models as part of the facelift and the further optimized driving modes, the purely electric range of the most powerful Panamera is now 50 kilometers (according to WLTP EAER City), which, according to Porsche, is an increase of Corresponds to 30 percent.
The new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is to come a further six kilometers in purely electric driving mode. The 100 kW electric motor meets a 330 hp 2.9-liter V6 biturbo, which brings a system output of 462 hp. With the 4S E-Hybrid (560 HP system output) available since the introduction of the facelift, three plug-in hybrids are now available for the Panamera for the first time.
The new top model of the series: The Turbo S E-Hybrid with 700 HP system output.
Porsche is expanding its range of pure combustion models with the Panamera 4S, whose 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 continues to generate 440 hp. The Panamera GTS - the model variant designed for driving dynamics with 480 hp (20 hp more than before the facelift) - and the aforementioned Turbo S, which replaces the "normal" Turbo, are already known. The output of the double-charged 4.4-liter V8 is 80 hp above the turbo, the maximum torque increases by 50 to 820 Newton meters. This means that the Porsche Panamera Turbo S in Sport Plus mode should accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 315 km / h. The Turbo S is not the most powerful, but it is the fastest Panamera, because the Turbo S E-Hybrid is said to need a tenth of a second more for the standard sprint. With 3, However, it is 2 seconds faster than its predecessor. In terms of top speed, the two Turbo-S models are on par.
Even with a six-cylinder engine, the Panamera is of course anything but slow. The 4 E-Hybrid should reach 100 km / h from a standstill in 4.4 seconds (-0.2 s) and go up to 280 km / h (+2 km / h). For the 4S E-Hybrid, Porsche specifies 3.7 seconds and 298 km / h. Without an electric drive, the 4S can go to 100 km / h in 4.1 seconds (-0.1 s). According to Porsche, the top speed is 295 km / h (+6 km / h).
Ring record for the Turbo S
Before the start of series production, the Panamera Turbo S, which we were able to drive ourselves, had already been beaten over the Nürburgring-Nordschleife under the watchful eye of a notary. With a time of 7: 29.81 minutes, he set an official course record in the "luxury class" category on the 20.832-kilometer circuit. The three-chamber air suspension, PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) and roll stabilization have been optimized for the Turbo S in view of the increase in performance. The new sports exhaust system is standard on the Panamera GTS. In the future it will have asymmetrically constructed rear silencers, which should sharpen the sound characteristics.
Regardless of the engine, the chassis and control systems have been revised. The Porsche Panamera should remain sporty as before, but at the same time offer more comfort. The engineers have also fine-tuned the steering and tires.
Wireless Carplay moves in
In 2020, a new car must of course also be optimized for the information superhighway. Porsche is improving the online-based voice control of the Panamera. New is a risk radar for hazard information. Apple Carplay can in future also be used without a cable connection.
In addition to the touchscreen, there is also extended voice control for interaction with the car.
The standard equipment has been expanded to include lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition. The new entry-level model is the Porsche Panamera with rear-wheel drive and 330 hp 2.9-liter V6. It starts at 91,345 euros. Above this is the previous base model, the Panamera 4 with all-wheel drive from 95,289 euros. As with all previously available models, the price is not increased. Porsche puts the Panamera 4S in the price list at 115,241 euros. The Panamera GTS costs unchanged from 136,933 euros, despite the slightly increased performance, the Turbo S 179,737 euros.
The range of electrified Panamera models starts with the 4 E-Hybrid at 110,369 euros. The 4S E-Hybrid starts at 126,841 euros and Porsche is calling 185,537 euros for the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. The first copies of the refreshed Panamera are to be delivered to dealers and customers in mid-October.
