M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

If the next M2 manages to keep its weight the same it would be the better option.

Instead of waisting resources on non-comp and comp variants for every M-car, out of the gate, BMW should offer an M2 CLS/GTS with:
-Lightweight alloys
-Lightweight non electric seats.
-CF boot and bonnet
-No rear seats

Done, I've added the text to the initial post. I have not added the photos yet. Do you want these too as thumbnails?
Thanks! I appreciate the practicality of thumbnail but actually don't mind full-sized images. Less thumbnail clicking.

Sorry BMW, you can keep your M3.
I'll happily go with this instead:

Magnificent. What a different with the ugly front end of these cars.

Looks like this iteration of the B3 is going to be the most successful Alpina model ever (and having the S58 will boost the appeal further).

^ Like I've said before: silhouette is great, proportions - for the most part - are typically BMW (a good thing) and the bigger wheels reduce the sheetmetal mass around the rear haunches. C-pillar and re-interpreted hoff-kink remains a point of contention for me.

^ From directly side on, the M3 looks fantastic. I like everything I see from this angle - the new M-gill, the wheels (sensational!), the bodywork, the lot. It's a great shade of green too.

It would have been really close without that hood shutline that breaks the whole front.

As for the rear wheel/sheetmetal on the M4.... I've seen the videos of the car now, and like I suspected the side body around the rear wheel is very 3D, almost like an old 911, so fatness in pics doesn't transfer to real life. For me at least it's the smallest problem of the car.

.............................M4 Coupé(G82): 1775Kg | (F82) 1612Kg (-163Kg)
M4 Competition Coupé(G82): 1800Kg | (F82) 1615Kg (-185Kg)
.............................M3 Sedan(G80): 1780Kg | (F80) 1635Kg (-145Kg)
M3 Competition Sedan(G80): 1805Kg | (F80) 1635Kg (-170Kg)

o_O
Wow that is a HUGE weight increase over the previous models. The weight advantage the previous M3/M4 had over their rivals is totally eliminated with these new models. 1800kg is only 150kg lighter than the V8 Twin Turbo and much larger AWD M5/M8 models. With AWD the M3/M4 will be only 100kg lighter than the bigger models.

What's the transmission for the F82 & F80 used for the weight comparisons? Manual or M-DCT?
And, I assume quoted weights for M4 Coupé and M3 Sedan are for the automatic transmission and not the manual?

1800Kg is already for the AWD version - the Competition models. Besides, if the M3/M4 are going to get heavier - so too are their competitors.
Edit: sorry @Rolf, I got that wrong. Competition models are NOT AWD by default.

The new C63 is going to be 200 kg more than this with it's hybrid nonsense.
The weight advantage will keep the status quo @Rolf, count on that.

As for the new M3/4.....the rims are once again spectacular beyond belief. Both of them, and I honestly still don't know which design I prefer. Probably the ones @martinbo chose too. But the lightweight ones in gold are just freakin' sick too.....

Your pet peeve hood shitline notwithstanding, I find the front of the G80/2 to be much better looking than that of the G22 with its dopey looking smiley face.
The G80/2 front has the kidneys joined directly to the lip of the bumper, unlike that of the G22 whose kidneys are separated from the bottom lip by that dumb ass vent that looks like a smile.

The M3 can be a huge thing if the LCI brings back the G20 based front end.

BMW just needs a more aggressive bumper for the 3er front end and the rest of this M3.

I'm left with the impresion that the comp models are always with an auto transmission and the standard always with a manual.

Yep you correct my friend, this is my biggest issue with these new models, the weight increase is getting out of control. The next C63 despite the rumors' of a suppose ably lighter 4cylinder engine, but together with the hydrid drive and AWD will most likely have a massive weight increase. 1900 to 2000kg is ridiculous for a medium sized saloon no matter what in both cases. They approaching 7 series and S-class levels of weight. The Alfa Giulia QF will make both look like elephants.

This is the best view of the new M3. looking great in Toronto Red with Kyalami and Black Merino Leather and CF trim

Sure, but they've become really big cars this day and age. Remember the 190E? Now THAT's a size I can work with ;)
The W206 will be W210 size....

I thought it was auto only for the Comp, and whatever for the 'base'. Either way nice to know that the Comp can be had in RWD too. Those 'insider' claims were false.

M4 Auto (and Comp) was 1670kg according to the 2018 specification sheet.

I am really curious about the weight difference between base RWD G80 manual vs F80 M3 CS manual. The G80 has 30 more hp compared to the F80 CS, it's fairly close and good to compare those two. You happen to have this data?

And with its hybrid powerplant, the W206 C63 will probably weigh almost as much a W140 S500. The long-wheelbase W140 S500 that is.

^ The sound of a W140 door closing gives me a certain feeling in my entire body. It's absolutely divine.

Is this going off topic or what?

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
