Wtf? They announce a test M4 Comp. vs 992 Carrera S.
Why?
992 Carrera S is a total different segment and costs 50% more. Hilarious. Why not a comparison of a G8x in its segment?
Ok. On track the G82 beats everything in its segment. So they have to take THE sportscar benchmark so that the G82 looses. How boring.

A base 911 Carrera S costs less than a fully specced M4, so they do partly overlap. But yeah a fully specced Carrera S costs waaaay more than M4.

A Member on Bimmerpost weighed their G82 M4 at 3660lbs or 1660kg with apparently half a tank ..options: Exec pack, carbon buckets, full leather, 19/20 wheels. Stock steel brakes.

I don't understand these huge differences in measured weight at all. Here it's in the 1600s, in others in the 1800s. WTF is that? You can spec lead and cast iron as an option?

Not in Germany. Carrera S starts with 123.000€. You can't specc an M4 to 123.000€! And the magazine is a german magazine!
Trust me - I configured both - M4 Comp. and 992 Carrera S - ad nauseam! Carrera S comparably equipped is easy 50K more expensive.

We have to wait for more independent magazine tests before we know real weight. Youtubers who doesn’t know for sure how much petrol there is in the tank or if their kids where in the backseat or not when they weighted their cars is not a good enough source for me.

Oh I believe you, but historically the M3/4 and Carrera S do compete imo.
Here in Holland a Carrera S starts around 170k, and a properly fully specced M4 Comp is between 170-180k.

Yes. Unfortunately! "The curse of the good deed" (deepl translate of a german phrase. Don't know if it makes sense)
I repeat myself: This M3/4 comparison to 911 is a bad habbit! Even if it has been historically started.
It stems from a time, where Porsche engineering failed miserably, because they weren't exploiting their bespoke sportscar platform like they should! They were allowing M to give them a run for their money with car based on a mass production bread n butter sedan platform.
That in the past the small M car was at some time able to compete with a 911 was NOT because M engineering was black magic and much better than todays M engineering! It was because Porsche engineering was subpar/lazy at this time (late 90s/beginning 2000)

So - imho - this habbit of 911/M3 comparison should stop again.

Outcome as expected.
The MXDrive version of the G8x will be below 11s for the 1/4 mile.
The S58 is underrated.
The launch control of the ZF8 in the G8x is consistently better than the F8x DCT counterpart.
Now people (Matt) start to cite the G8x weight more correctly! 1730kg is realistic for this car being a Competition model mit the bucket seats but WITHOUT the CCBs? With CCBs it would be around 1710kg.

The spec of the C63 is gorgeous. It's one of the last luxurious German muscle cars.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
