Yip, completely agree with you. Porsche's been doing the same exposed radiators on 981 & now 982 models - except on Spyder/GT4 - and it's a liability.![]()
Isn't this radiator down in the bumper too vulnerably exposed?
Especially when the damaged radiator is the one for cooling the transmission oil. 30 k Euro greetings from the service shop.Yip, completely agree with you. Porsche's been doing the same exposed radiators on 981 & now 982 models - except on Spyder/GT4 - and it's a liability.
Least of your worries: bug splattered radiators. Getting a radiator punctured by a stone or something heavier is a bigger concern.
i have not seen the specs before. 1800kg is shocking, 150kg more than F8x. what makes this a better car than rivals then? i found Supra was heavy compared to 718. with S58 engine, compared to G8x, Supra would feel A110 light. Hopefully the Supra does come with the best engine BMW has to offer.
ok only 35 kg heavier, total 1675 kg which is like last gen. very good thing, in line with bmws advantage. why on website it is written 1800? even - 75 kg driver is still over 1700kg. is it with awd and auto? You seem to have missed the related info/discussion about the weight topic.
As a remainder (start 3:30 in the video):
Weight delta between F8x and G8x around 60-70 kg.
The old car was with a DCT the new is with a manual, which makes another 40 kg,the new one is with the lighter seats - another 10 kg and most probably the old one is not equipped with the carbon-ceramic brakes, which would make the difference at more than 100 kg. In this deceiving video we see the heaviest version of the old model compared to the lightest version of the new one. Just see the amount of dislikes and comments on that video, lolThe old car was with a DCT the new is with a manual, which makes another 40 kg,the new one is with the lighter seats - another 10 kg and most probably the old one is not equipped with the carbon-ceramic brakes, which would make the difference at more than 100 kg. By heaviest I mean - a DCT, steel brakes, OPF, standard seats and no CF propeller shaft.Edit: I just re-checked recent tests of F8x models WITH the OPF. Here e.g. in the Autobild test a F82 WITH CCB had a weight of 1636kg!
So your theory of the F8x chosen by BMW in this comparison being the "heaviest version" is already refuted.

Correct, and when the Competition pack was launched in 2016 it weighted 1615 kg eu-weight (90%tank+75kg), so it gained 55 kg during its 4 year life. The official weight of the M4 Competition Coupe with the M DCT (F82) was 1,670kg when it ceased production. This is to EU1 standard (90% tank, driver, and 7kg luggage).
The G82 M4 Competition Coupe with the M Steptronic gearbox is 1,800kg to the same parameters.
So the weight increase is 130kg.
All this talk of ceramic brakes and other stuff is irrelevant.

From the 1986 M3 which had a curb weight (full tank of fuel) of 1200 kg to the base 2014 M4 with manual gear which weighted 1497 kg DIN (90%tank) the is difference is aprox 300 kg, yes. Not bad actually. So, after the mighty E30 M3 from '80s in more than 30+ years with all new engines, transmissions and shit it only gained like 300 kilos in 30+ years??
Well done, BMW...![]()

Impressive indeed and why I used to love BMWs so much. So, after the mighty E30 M3 from '80s in more than 30+ years with all new engines, transmissions and shit it only gained like 300 kilos in 30+ years??

Well, numbers can be manipulated in the direction you want...I see.
But this is no fair comparison.
You can't compare one of the earlier F8x, which didn't fulfill recent emission standards with a G8x, which fulfills it.
So - I have to be repetitive here:
A F8x (see my link above) of more recent model year (steel shaft and OPF) weighs 1636 kg with DCT and the light CCB. (of course with carbon roof and the competition model seats, which are a bit lighter than the non Comp. seats)
So - the G8x manual in the vid has 1674 kg with manual. I give you, that this G8x also has CCBs! So taking into account a weight delta between manual and DCT of approx. 30-40kg I still come to the result, that real world weight diff, which weight- sensitive people will see between F8x and G8x are in the ballpark of 70 or 80 kg.
Do I applaud this weight increase? For sure not.
Will anyone beside a professional driver detect a weight increase of 5%, where at the same time the COG has been lowered and the track width and the stiffness have been enhanced? No.
Bottom line: This talk about weight increase of >150kg for the G8x is imho utter nonsense.
One of the root causes of this talk is the fault of the OEMs, which tricked around with their DIN and EU weights and whatsoever for ages! Never compare such "official" weights. Wait for measurements of well known car magazines, which have a consistent measurement procedure and also tell you about the test car configuration!
Well, numbers can be manipulated in the direction you want...
