4 Series (G22) [Official] 2020 BMW 4 Series (G22)

The second generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the G22 (coupé version), G23 (convertible version), and G26 (5-door liftback version, marketed as the Gran Coupé) compact executive cars. Wow, just wow, it's incredible how they continue to insist on defending their opinion against reality, the car is a super bestseller in all its versions, doesn't that tell you anything?

An evidence that there is no fix for that front, or I guess there is no money for an extensive LCI, as it’s not a crucial member of the lineup.

Sad thing is when you are reading all these press release’s there is one thing missing which is the end statement that they will receive their world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
At a guess they will probably debut auto show wise in Beijing this April. Which seems to be the only auto show BMW will appear at.

They could have succumbed to interweb chatter and made it far more conservative. But they didn’t. They stood their ground and said no. It’s more or less the benchmark of the segment. The A5 and C-Coupe came later. It’s a brave decision, but BMW are the most risk-averse when it comes to designing for the mainstream.
Yep, but the question is why? Why put money on a car that looks good but could look better, when there is no competition?

I say this as I am starting to look for one to buy myself, but still. As can be seen in the pics posted above, the E92 was much of a looker when it came out. And that car had the first A5 to compete against. Which was a much more serious rival than the current competition.

There is no competition? And the totally new CLE?
No there is competition now. When the eighties and nineties with the E30 and E36 respectively there was no direct competition from Mercedes with its 190. Although you could probably count the Audi 80 based Coupe as a 3er Coupe competitor.

Nice hatch? I saw one once "S2" more than a competitor it was a unicorn around here

A subtle LCI. But evidence the appearance has been finally accepted by its audience.

No it isn't. BMW have chosen to keep the grill as it is, which they were always going to do. It has nothing to do with people accepting it.

Even record sales isn't evidence that people like the grill. They could be buying the car for many other reasons *despite* the grill.

I don't mind the front at all, but it's clear you're not a scientist because you have no clue what "evidence" is. The only way to truly test whether people like the grill or not is to have to two separate front designs and allow people to choose one as a no cost option. Obviously that's never going to happen for cost reasons, but to try to deduce people's thoughts based purely on sales is impossible.

Well, that sounds reasonable. At least better than trying to pass good sales figures as the buyers silently acknowledging that (once again) BMW designers know better than themselves.

I like the new graphics, though maybe a bit boring.

Rear light graphics seem to be a gigantic improvement though with the CSL style (laser?) lights:

Never liked the rear light graphics of the pre-LCI 4er. Now I do.

But why borrow the Macan EV launch color? LOL

The things one has to read are amazing, the stubbornness that has no limits even in the face of facts.
Since two or three here don't like it, it can't be true that it sells so much, the universe is wrong.

"Sales not determining tastes in this segment"
hilarious, very scientific.

Yupp. BMW decided not to bother improving the front end design which is in no-mans land. It’s not as tidy and timeless like the G20 LCI, nor as intentionally aggressive and cohesive like the M4 front:

I don't see any changes besides these new graphics.
BMW is busy elsewhere.
Obviously, with an entirely new design language that puts aside this stupid looking vertical grille.

Unless you go deeper into the data, there is very little you can conclude as to the *reasons*. Off the top of my head, positive sales figures could be:

* Poor competition
* Increased discounting
* Improved dealer network
* Top of the class handling and economy

You can't just conclude "ah, people DO like the new grill". You can't even say "people are buying the 4er DESPITE the new grill", because you have zero idea as to how many have simply ruled the 4er out on looks alone and sales figures could have been even bigger! The only way you could draw conclusions as to how the new grill affects sales is to have a "control" grill, and then give people the option.

To think what you think shows an incredible amount of naivety and a fundamental lack of understanding of how people make purchasing decisions, and how to understand sales figures, or indeed ANY data at a scientifc level.

For the record I like the 4er grill. But even if I didn't, it wouldn't put me off buying one. What world do you live in where people only purchase items that they think are 100% perfect? I love my iPhone, but there are things I don't like about it. In fact, most of the cars I've owned aren't 100% perfect. What you're saying is that anybody buying a 4er is completely happy with the grill, which is highly unlikely.
